The Miami Ute replied to the topic A 5-10 min stretch last night Lovering was the best player on the court in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 months, 2 weeks ago
The Keita I saw last night was essentially no different than the Keita I saw during the 22-23 season. That should tell you all you need to know. In today’s version of professional basketball, at any level, there’s little to no role for a player that has zero offensive game.

I’ve watched the NBA and NCAA for almost 50 years and have seen many guys like Keita. He’s what’s known as a “gold brick”, essentially a guy who looks the part and has all of the physical measurables but, unfortunately, doesn’t have the requisite skills or innate basketball IQ to deliver what’s expected of him. I hope he’s taking BYU for the…[Read more]

Jim, my view is that unless you already have a solid, veteran team, these “one and done” guys won’t be able to move the needle much. You certainly won’t be able to win the NCAAs if your roster is composed primarily of one and done players. BYU supposedly has two lottery picks and another player with 1st RD grades. Yet, what I saw last night on…[Read more]

Especially, defensively. Maybe BYU was just too small but he looked aggressive, athletic, and confident. Very surprised at his aggressive play and it was huge last night. 4 assists to go along with 13 points which hopefully becomes more as the team gains confidence in him.

KY will not be able to keep everyone happy when they’re losing. There will be some disgruntled players wanting more playing time. One and done mentality only works if that player is a superstar. Playing a freshman who makes way more money than the junior and senior players who have been with the program for more than two years can cause locker r…[Read more]

It seemed like there were a lot fewer BYU fans at this game compared to the one last year.
Anyways, once again, this was a game, like many last season, that Utah should have won easily in regulation if the Utes were a mediocre FT shooting team. At the end of the game, BYU’s defense was reduced to a “Hack-a-Lovering” or “Hack-a-Auser” and it…[Read more]

They complain about the fouls against them when they were trying to foul Lovering and Asur. 4-12 in overtime I wish they wouldn’t have called any fouls. The fouls benefited them yet they blame the loss on the refs.

The Huntsman Center is a wonderful building when it is packed and the atmosphere was incredible last night. Significant number of vocal Cougar supporters but Ute fans were much louder.
Hope that Utah fans (including the students) can come out for some of the other BIG12 games as we need that home advantage against the likes of Baylor, Kansas,…[Read more]

I agree with everything you said. But you didn’t answer my question. Do you still invest in going to football games despite our passing percentage being 103rd in D1 this past season? And if yes, why the difference?
I’m not trying to noodle you…I’m just curious about how fan psychology works and this is a particularly interesting one to me.

This is why I don’t want to really invest in going to the games. Look at how pathetic that percentage is.

It’s worth pointing out that Lawson’s BPM of 5.5 is still really good. That’s NBA All-Star level. And if Ezra and Hunter were able to maintain their BPM, they would both be All-Americans.
The highest BPM over the course of an entire NBA season was Jokic in 2021-2022. His BPM was 13.7.

I largely agree with your thoughts with this exception:
Ezra started timid in the first half but came alive in the second, true.
Keanu stands around that’s why he isn’t playing, false.See the irony? Ezra played 31 min and Keanu played 11. For the first half, Ezra didn’t do shit but in the second half, he got in the flow and blew up. Somewhere…[Read more]

ahem… Keanu is a 69% (27/39) FT shooter.. worst…? really…
Caleb 31% (yeah you heard that right) 5/16
Keller 40% 4/10
Lovering 42% 23/54
Mongo Mike 50% 9/15
Ezra 60% 59/98 (he has actually really improved, at least he got above 50%)
Jake 64% 16/25
Mason 66% 6/9 (pretty small sample)He’s basically the same as Miro who is 27/38 (71%), and…[Read more]

Are you a child or just mentally challenged? Shouting something on the internet doesn’t make it true. Dawes is NOT our worst FT shooter, not by a long shot. Lovering is worse by a substantial margin. Dawes is a 69% FT shooter, which isn’t good, but it isn’t awful either. As bad as our team is from the line, I’d wager to say he is one of our better…[Read more]

You gotta make your team at least above 70% every game. Those are the effort things as well. Utah runs away with this game if you just capitalize when the other team gives you free shots. -

BYU basketball really knows how to live up to the standards set by their sponsors. PACS is being investigated for fraud. Apparently, BYU basketball should be too!

Isn’t he a 70%+ free throw shooter? Based on how our team shoots free throws, that’s got to be one of the best percentages on our roster?
