  • Likely the end game is that big-time college football is restricted to 30-40 schools, which is exactly what the networks want, and everybody else just drops sports altogether in a competitive manner. Think about it, why would an educational institution all of a sudden be beholden to sports in general and add a thousand more “employees” that…[Read more]

You both should give Baseball another go. I’d argue it’s been better now than ever. And the strike was a loooonnnngggg time ago.

I think when people were saying “pay the players” they were expecting some sort of contract or that teams would have salary caps. I was never the one to say “pay the players”. Not because I didn’t want it, but I knew it would change the sport I loved drastically.

  • likely the end game is a collectively bargained solution between the players and the NCAA that all NCAA colleges are beholden to. It will likely involve contracts that players have to sign and likely will include provisions for transferring and provisions for cutting players.

  • I have seen a lot of commentary around here lately with a focus on NIL, ‘last straw’, ‘CFB is ruined’, ‘no longer a fan’, etc.

Is the current model a bit of a downer at the moment? Yes.
Does it seem like the Wild West? Also, yes.

I respect everyone’s right to ‘fan’ how they would like. This is, after all, entertainment.
    If you are not…[Read more]

Kinda disagree, NFL execs are generally smart and understand that there are no rules in CFB anymore. These kids didn’t sign contracts committing them to be there for 4 years and are now trying to break the contract. It’s completely apples and oranges from the NFL.

Honestly, this is a naive sentiment in today’s age of CFB. It’s a nice statement and mentality but if you live and die by that and don’t let players come back after entering the portal, you are shooting yourself in the foot. Once you’ve committed for the season though, I’m with you 100%.

Well, yes big $$$ has played a role, but what really drove it were impactful court decisions that basically neutered the NCAA. Those court rulings had a far bigger impact on the current state of college sports than anything else.

“Where is the dedication? Maintain the same standards you expect from these athletes; your identity as a Ute was earned, not innate.”

Why should fans who pay to watch the athletes be held to the same standard as what we expect from the athletes? We pay they “earn” if you can call it earning. $7 mil for one year of college basketball is grotesq…[Read more]

YOU GUYS WANTED THIS! FUCK! Pay the players, pay the players, pay the players. I bet you didn’t realize this would send all the best players up to the biggest schools. Sheesh. How could you not have seen this coming?

100%… which isn’t unusual. I’m active in a few places and I’ll say that in the offseason, I saw a lot of BYU fans whining about the $$$ and NIL and how it was the end of college sports and they weren’t sure if they’d stick around (basically the same thing you see here).

Weirdly, after BYU just gave AJ Dybantsa $7M dollars, there’s a LOT less…[Read more]

  • I’ve decreased my CFB watching considerably. I still watch the Utes religiously. But beyond that it’s just parts of games here or there and I’m on a personal Big10 and SEC boycott.

  • You have to be dense to ask what changed. Why on earth would I see any of the players an anything but mercenaries who can be poached by richer programs after every season? Utah and other non-wealthy programs have to develop these players, only for them to be bought for more money. Why would I see us as anything but a feeder program? I’m done w…[Read more]

Right, this will come full circle in terms of NIL control due to regulation or donor ROI as well as player integrity in NFL teams’ eyes as you note. NFL team player interviews and research is extensive, they cross off players today for less than team hopping.

However, we’re probably a few years away from this. As others have labeled it, we’…[Read more]

This appears contradictory, perhaps even self-absorbed. Criticizing young men for prioritizing financial gain seems unjust. I understand the frustration; however, abandoning a cherished passion is not the solution. Circumstances evolve; team uniforms, personnel, and even personal perspectives change, but perseverance is key. This is merely the…[Read more]
