This is the new world…. Every year, we (Our team), is going to have to be re-recruited… Local Kids or kids who were recruited out of Utah we should have a good handle on.. Non Utah kids who show promise (Watch Out). There is no more loyalty. That is gone. Everyone in the country knows that Utah model now. They know how Utah finds projects and turns them into elite NFL prospects. And Every year these lazy schools are going to come after our guys. Why cause they can. So, how do we compete.

First, the good news. Culture cannot be bought. Utah is a culture, Whit, hardwork the grind. Can you think of the last Utah guy who transferred and was more successful somewhere else ? cause I can’t. Maybe S. Mariner ? The culture is real and Utah will still be great because of Whit and because of the culture. We know how to identify, coach and build up. This will keep us competitive especially in the big 12 where we recruit better than most of the programs or at least on par. There is no program in the Big-12 you look at and fear none. Even if they have more talent. How is their culture.

Whit knows how to navigate the waters and so does Scally. The world may change but the core principles of college football and winning games stay the same.

Now, the real no emotional news….. We are going to lose Key guys every year. The solution. Pay our top dudes every year. Before the big schools come after them. And between playing time and our culture maybe that’s enough to keep them around see (CR). But, we aren’t going to bring back everyone.

So, better get used to it… Shocked by JJ. better get ahead of it if you want to keep guys. See Cam. Whit mentioned had we had enough NIL we could have kept Bishop and Vaki. Maybe. Unfortunately these kids don’t owe us anything after the season.

It cannot and won’t continue like this.. It will get regulated within the next 3-5 years and be like a NFL model. But for now. Buckle up….

The other good news is at least we are established (Utah), dudes like Logan Fano and the G-tech cb or Landon King want to come to Utah to get coached up. That’s what separates us.

95 percent of everyone that leaves (transfer not nil) will find out the grass isn’t always greener. Some were forced out by Whit and co for the others they will find out how much patience, development and culture matters. I mean Whit was taking 2* DE and turning them into NFL studs who beat Alabama.

Utah itself will be fine big picture. But day to day is going to be rough for us as fans. I really feel for the MWC schools, lower schools, WSU, OSU.

But Utah will continue to win. Playoff. we will see. CR does solve a lot.. And We should be able to get a big time RB in the portal. I would think unlike WR, RB is an elite need here.

    Go Utes.

Possibly he contributes as he gets his turn much like Fano has.

I really appreciate it that most of my fellow Ute fans were respectful when two of our players transferred to our rival like last season. Most wished them well and I do not remember any Ute fans trashing them.

CB is all over the place on this transfer. Some say things like he and his brother are dead to me. Others cannot understand why a kid would ever leave a heavenly place like BYU for Utah. Some say he made a deal with the devil. And best of all, he wasn’t any good anyway.

One of my favorite CB comments was, “Daley did NOT include ‘please respect my decision’ in his departure graphic. Therefore we are under no obligation to respect it, and I do not and will not respect it. Frankly, I detest it.”

In fairness, some CB posters do admit that he has a much better chance of developing into a potential NFL defensive end at Utah. There are some CB posters who understand that Utah is simply better at developing defensive players.

It sounds like this kid has some great potential. I don’t see him getting a lot of playing time next season with Filinger, O’Toole, Ellis, and Fano. But, in 2025 he may be a star for the Utes.

I’m not that guy… But, Facts do not care about your feelings or emotions. If you look at what Utah has coming back next year (Pre- Portal) It isn’t that bad if Utah keeps doing Utah.

    Offense:
QB – Healthy Cam (I find it hard to believe Cam isn’t awesome) This alone is worth something. He makes others around him better.
RB – Jackson, Bernard, Glover, Staley, our other two 4 star backs…… (Bernard was a huge loss last year. His ability to catch out of the backfield and block. He in of himself id like a slot receiver. Jackson if healthy is a beast, Glover is fine as a third option. And Staley is MM. Kid is fast and dynamic.

TE – King (Beast mode can’t be stopped) with Kuithe… and Dallin Bentley (4*) who will be used off in mICKI

WR – Lets be honest we don’t use them anyways. All we need is Parks, Mcclain, Pittman….

OL Fano (fr AA), Toigi looked great… Maea, Mokofisi, Kump….. Our line will be fine.

    ST is set….

    Defense:

DT/DE – ALL BACK… I expect Ellis To be Back

LB – Reid, Barton, Daimani, Fotu (This is who will play)

CB – Vaughn, Johnson, Snowden ( 2’s will be unproven, we lost a lot of depth) hopefully we can pull at least one guy from the portal.. But Blocker, Davis may just have to be our backups.

SS – (This is the one area we really need help) I thought there was a very good chance that Bishop and especially Vaki were back….

Ritchie moves and plays like Chase hansen. He is a future LB. Hall ( Who knows) everyone raves about him. But he hasn’t played. Maybe Britt allen the USC transfer gets some love ????

Summary – We are fine at corner sa long as we don’t have injuries. But could def use an experienced corner.

Safety I really hope we pull at least one experienced dude from the portal…

(TE Carsen Ryan) would be nice and one good WR would be nice….

Don’t forget CU and ASU pulling in all these dudes. Well that’s great. But it’s going to take time to gell.

I think we need 3/4 Solid portal guys thats it. The rest of the team fill in with young project guys for depth. But I think we are much better set up than people think.

The O-Line is the one place where I’m not worried about having experienced bodies. They will need to play better as a group in ’24 but there are plenty that have starter experience.

Off the top of my head: Mokofisi, Maea, Fano, Kump, Togiai & Faaiu have all started while I’ve also seen Falcon, Harrison and Lomu in games. Alderman, Olson and Moea’i have gotten favorable reports. Just need them to perform at peak more often.

For what it is worth… I recall Whitt saying they had 10 OL ready to play at the beginning of the year. I don’t know how far along ready to play is but I would think we should next have more than 5 ready plus development that can be done before fall. Coaches must have seen it coming with Fano and Lomu being top recruits last year. This year’s top recruit is OL as well. Next year’s OL will benefit from better QB and RB options as well. I am not worried yet.

Coaching from the couch, Bills and Laumea were projected pre-season P12 1st team this year. Probably good for Bills to go now. Like Laumea, he’s done enough to show his NFL value. Should be interesting to see what the Oline looks like next year without Laumea and Bills. Both should get drafted. Can’t recall Utah in the P12 era having two Oline drafted in the same year. Fano should be solid with experience against some top level defenses.

Losing Matthew’s sucks, but I wouldn’t trade him for all we’ve received. Rising, JJ, Kincaid, Sewell, McClain, Diabate, King, Damuni, Fano, Becker, Battle and probably more just to name a few that have started for us. We’ve lost Matthews and maybe Latu and Moala or Isbell (who was a transfer in as well) who were projected starters or major two deep players. Literally nobody who has left did anything major at a big school.

We have been blessed with the portal and could lose Vaki, Bishop, and Ellis and still be a better program overall because of it. Just look at the team down south. They lost both Barringtons, Holker, great starters in Pili and Jeudy-Lally, and more just last year alone. Look at Oregon State and WSU this year.

I am very excited to see who we land this year. If we could get one of Kelly, Jackson, or Keshawn Williams I would be very happy.
