They’re university presidents. Their emphasis should absolutely be on academics over football. As much as we might all love football, university presidents are educators, not sports boosters. At least, they should be. We all love college football, but the fact that it is clearly the only thing tat matters (or at least, the money it generates) in college sports is crazy.

Not to mention that these universities still bring in many times more money for research than they ever will for football…

Super=Deion’s ego.  So he steals the HBCUs from the MEAC and SEAC and combines them into an HBCU-only league.  I don’t see the point of that, unless racism: we’re going to form a black league and race-shame the best black players into playing only with their own.   Not going to work, and a very bad idea if you’re for diversity everywhere.   Why shouldn’t there be diversity intra-league?

Agree. It’s time (actually past time) for the PAC to get aggressive and invite the top 6 Big12 teams (sans TDS). The B1G were aggressive in fetching USC and UCLA. You either act or get acted upon. I think the only holdup is the liberal northwest probably thinks they’re too good to associate with Texas and Oklahoma. If they continue being smug about inviting them, the PAC will collapse and Cal, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State can look forward to joining the MWC instead.

I agree that I’d bet ESPN would rather the PAC survive over the Big12. They love their late Saturday night games too much (as much as I loathe them, since I’m out in Tennessee).

You know Texas Tech finished 3rd in the Big 12 last year in basketball, 1st in 2018-19?   Mike Leach coached football there, Baker Mayfield played there.   They finished 2nd in baseball.  So they are an example, like, say, Purdue in the BigTen, of a team who rarely, if ever wins the conference but is not really a pushover athletically.   Granted, their home media market is very small, if you’re counting just West Texas/Texas Panhandle.

Consider also Baylor, it is a very small school, by enrollment, but they have a very loyal fanbase.   For a long time they were a football doormat in the Big-12, but recently they are one of the top contenders in football.  They also have strong programs in women’s softball and basketball.  Waco itself is a very small market but their alums live throughout Texas and the surrounding region.

Bottom line, who is a “bottom feeder”?  Are you using only football as a metric?   Media market size?

If there is any restructuring, the deadwood needs to be carved out. There are too many schools getting big money in not only weak markets, but garbage contributions to their leagues.

Hate to say it, but BYU has contributed more than half the bottom feeders of the B1G and SEC. I felt bad they were forced to independence. There are way too many programs collecting paydays, yet they are very inferior athletic programs.

Sadly, I think college athletics as we know it will die, thanks to the media.

Conferences with 16 or more teams are not going to last very long, especially with the so called “marquee” schools. Their egos and lust for money are just too great for them to accept equal footing with other “lesser” schools in the conference. Just wait and see what happens to the SEC and Big 10 a few years after going with 16 teams. These two conferences will dissolve into two or more smaller conferences. It’s the TV networks driving this temporary madness, and the only ones who will benefit are the non-power 5 teams that are now in a power 5 conference.

The B12 and P12 are walking the plank. Kliavkoff should be talking with the ESPN and Fox to get a timeline when UO, UW, and Stanford get invites to their new conference project. College football is already on a national viewership decline, even in SEC and BIG county, difference is it’s happening slower than out West. IMO-as time goes on, NIL player purchasing, transfer portal hopping, predetermined team CFP is only accelerating the fan disengagement process. Knowing right now Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, maybe Clemson and one other SEC team make up three and likely four of the CFP teams in January is a big problem. Even with a weak schedule this season other than tOSU, ND loses their ususal 2-3 games and will be out of it.

The Big 12 is a sinking ship. You don’t jump off one sinking ship just to jump on another.

A PAC12/ACC merger is the only good outcome that remains.

There’s no evidence that we have any other offers.

If we had a B1G or SEC offer, we would be gone yesterday. The ACC isn’t an option. If the Pac-12/10 had any real stability, we wouldn’t be looking at merging with the BigXII.

The BigXII is our likely best and only option besides remaining in a dying Pac-12/10.

Not detracting from Stroud, I know he and the other Top5 have fantastic stats as thinking Rising not getting the leadership respect (although Stroud and Ohio State only put up 27 pts on Michigan, what happened there?).
