Whitt: Look, Rose is clearly better, but we want Isaac Wilson to be under Cam’s wing for the whole year as he is the future.

Ludwig to Whitt: Ok, I’ll tow the company line and make IW QB2.

Ludwig to Media: uh, yeah, IW has moved into the two spot with his improvement over the last two weeks, plus spring ball help him, blah, blah, blah.

      *Cam goes down*

Ludwig: Oh s**t, it looks like we have to go with Wilson, even though Rose is the better option in the near term.

      Whitt: sigh yeah.

      *Utah beats OK ST*

Whitt: Whew, maybe were not f***ed

      Ludwig: Sigh, yeah.

*The rest of the season unfolds and now Utah is on a 7 game losing streak as the players didn’t buy in that it’s a merit based program*

      More like:

Whitt & Lud to Wilson: we love you and what would it take to get you on the hill

IW: I know Cams the guy, but I have to be #2 and in line for the million NIL, or I go to byU.

Whitt & Lud: of course. Whatever you say.

*Cam goes down* Whitt: IW is our future and we already said he was number 2. We have to play this out or we lose him. Just tell everyone that Rose doesn’t know the playbook after 3 years. They’ll believe whatever I say.

might be the least popular opinion on this site, but i think wilson has alot of potential and has shown them. all his mistakes are all mistakes a true freshman qb would have had. I was at the colorado/utah game and noticed, when wilson isn’t being rushed, he can make really good plays, its only when hes being pressured & running is when his throws are horribly off. I just think he needs time to grow. but yes, I think Rose is the better qb and wilson shouldn’t have been qb2.

I agree with you. His decision making is turtle slow right now but he showed flashes of a high ceiling. Rose should have been QB2 to let Wilson develop more. Hopefully he stays and grows in the offseason

Question is why is his processing turtle slow right now?

This wasn’t the case earlier in the season. From Utah St to now there’s been regression. Why?

Whitt is likely part of the problem. His QB thou shalt nots have paralyzed QBs in the past.

I’m not sure if Wilson has really regressed, so much as it is that teams have figured out his weakness.

I’m reminded of after the TCU game, someone asked “How is the OL grading well, it seems like there’s always pressure on the QB?” … and the answer is the same

Normally, TCU blitzes 20-something percent of the time. Against Utah, they blitzed 52% of the time. Which meant that the OL had a herculean task. But the book on Isaac was out – that he doesn’t (yet) make quick reads/decisions. And so long as that’s true, he’s going to keep getting absurd amounts of pressure. If he can make teams pay for it by quickly hitting a hot read? Then they’ll have to stop blitzing him so much.

There were plays in the Utah State game where Isaac went thru his progressions and made the right throws. There were plays in that game where he manipulated LB and safeties.

Maybe it was the competition, maybe not. But he’s not doing those things now.

so the answer is to ask nicely if the other team will pretty please promise not to pressure him?

There was no pressure on the first pick against Oklahoma State. Instead he chose to throw in to double coverage on the wheel route without ever looking to the other side where Money had broken ankles and was running free for an easy 6.

Zach’s bugaboo has been slow processing time and poor decision making when the resulting pressure comes.

Zach has had one great season in his career. A season filled with clean pockets and poor competition. BYU played 10 Mississippi rush football in 2020. Zach’s been inconsistent at best otherwise with flashes of brilliance and moments of stupidity.

I’m not suggesting that Zach and Isaac are the same person or share the same traits, but based on their performances to date, they show some similarities in processing time and decision making.

To all the Wilson defenders out there. What have you seen from him? Sure he makes a couple good throws per game. But that is less than 10% of his overall output that has been terrible. Every backup QB behind him Rose/Bottari has looked immediately better. I don’t get it. Maybe I’m just not seeing the sleeping 5’10 undersized Heisman that just needs to be awakened.

I think NIL money is driving the depth chart no doubt. And that’s a great concern to me. Not sure who is telling who what…but I think it starts at the AD and flows down pretty strongly.

And add in highly public parents and a brother in the NFL…what a mess. I’d rather win 8 with a Barnes than have all the NIL money in the world but not be able to play the best players we have PERFORMING that week.

NIL is a poison. Several things are in this scenario.

How tall is Isaac Wilson actually? He’s listed at 6′ but he doesn’t look it. If he is really 5′ 10″ that explains his lack of vision and field awareness. In order to be successful he would need to be used similarly to the way Texas A&M used Johnny Manziel, more as a spread playmaker and out of pocket passer. He’s too short to see over the O line in a pro style offense.

I’m not tall. 5-9. Maybe 5-8 since I’m getting old and shrinking LOL. But he’s a fair amount taller than me, based on the couple times I’ve met him.

Good theory except for Wilson has said that Lud played a huge role in his recruitment and members of the offense said that wilson was clearly Lud’s guy despite what they saw.
