ParticipantI heard that the race for RB1 is close. Rodgers is looking good.
I am pleased with this news, because like many of you, I have been concerned about our RB depth.

ParticipantThis is great.
A best case scenario sees us having a pretty damn spicy run game.
Imagine our o-line lives up to the hype.
Dampier is as advertised with the run.
Johnson is just as freakishly athletic as always.
Parker and Rodger’s are 1a and 1b in no particular order with a solid stable of support.I am growing cautiously optimistic.

ParticipantNR was a MW RB2 last year.
Other side of the coin is WP is not as advertised and RB talent is worse than we thought. It’s not like our success rate with 4* RB the last 3 classes is batting a thousand, closer to zero.
Sorry Proud, cautiously pessimistic. Whitt’s offense has been anemic for basically 18 of last 24 games. I’ll believe the turnaround when I see it.
Not here to rain on the parade entirely. I do hope Beck’s scheme isn’t heavily talent dependent and it schemes productivity from under recruited 3* that fit the system (see something like a Mike Leach team). Because that looks like our talent pool and best outcome based on current circumstances.

ParticipantHate to agree with Yergensen on this one, but I do. I just can’t bring myself to get excited. I’m trying to force it by checking UteHub every day, but I just can’t do it.

ParticipantHe was RB2 at the number 1 rushing offense in THE NATION (D1 football)!
Also, do I need to remind you that Skatabo, who was a helluva RB at ASU played at a D2 school before transferring to ASU.
I’m confident that, given the o-line, this Utah offense is going to be very good, possibly great!

ParticipantMy goodness guys – There is more talent in the running back room this season, there is better coaching in the running back room and there are two all-American tackles on the O’line. I’m guessing our offensive coordinator knows all of these things and will particularly use those tackles to spring running backs (and whomever else runs the ball) to the second level.
Oh, and I hear our quarterback can run.

ParticipantWhat I ask myself is this: are any of these guys better than Jackson or Bernard? Personally, I don’t think so but we shall see as the offense is new and we’ll have a healthy #1 QB running the show. I have to agree with Yergensen in that that my reservoir of good will and trust is pretty much tapped out after all of the shenanigans that took place during the last two seasons. Used to be that you could pencil in six-seven automatic wins on a PAC schedule. Right now, I have a hard time pencilling in more than two or three.

ParticipantI think Parker is all of what Bernard was. As for Jackson I really wished we could have seen him with a complete season where he was healthy. Could have been all time.

ParticipantDon’t forget that Bernard was a pleasant surprise last year. When he had his scooter accident and wasn’t sure if he was coming back, nobody was freaking out. He outplayed expectation like crazy last year.
I expect this year to be the same. RB is one of those positions that you translates much easier from G5 to P4. I optimistic that they will have success and continue to average 5 yards a carry!

ParticipantLots of PTSD as results of two seasons of injured QBs. Even Urban had to get started with what he could starting late in the recruiting cycle. Like Meyer Beck did inherit some good pieces and can have a good first year. I want to give the new offense a chance and see if it lives up being a contender. No reason to relate the new offense to the old offense, it has the feel of different.

ParticipantA two headed monster would be nice. With the field spread and a running QB speed and quickness should spring some big runs for the RBs. Utah RBs in the past have to break tackles and run through arm tackles to get yrds. Bernard was our only back that could get yrds after contact. Hopefully this new spread offense will open bigger running lanes for our RBs.

ParticipantParker is having a good camp, then, suddenly, Rogers is pushing Parker. Maybe someone doesn’t want Parker getting too comfortable. And maybe Rogers started having a good camp, too.

ParticipantHaven’t had a lot of time to look at Rodgers but Parker was a Freshman playing big boy football. He got 735 yards on 137 carries behind a Washington State O-Line. So that is 11 or 12 runs per game at over 5 yards per carry. The rest of the team had 302 carries for 1324 yards. So about 25 carries per game at 4.38 yards per carry.
Also as the season went on he started to get a bigger share of the carries on that team.
I am optimistic but you never know how a kid will look when he steps up a level. Either way he was productive and I can see coach Witt saying give that kid the ball 20-25 times a game, and if with our O-Line we can average 4.5+ yards per carry we will take it. If we can get over 5 Yards per carry we will be rolling.
Oh and don’t forget having a running qb will require defenses to assign at least one defender to the qb.
