USC Tearing-up Coliseum surface to install track for NASCAR

Seems excessive to build an entire track for one race. Don they normally resurface the tracks before every event?

To the contrary, the drivers hate when they resurface the tracks, it causes premature tire wear and too much grip.  The preference is a worn in track with lots of rubber, kind of like players prefer a broken in football.  Short track racing is fun, it should be an interesting event.

Crazy that they would choose to do this in California given the COVID issues and mandates their government lays out regularly.

Also high liability state — what if auto parts go flying into the stands with the track being right up next to the stands??
