NW has a decent defense. They’re #42 in total defense in the FBS and #82 in rushing defense.

You’re on to something there. However, I think that you can also extend the instability factor to both the SEC and B1G as they’re currently configured. Why? Because there are quite a few legacy programs in both conferences that don’t move the needle at all, are dead weight with regards to TV statistics, and are essentially there to make up…[Read more]

I imagine this is how the CFP selection committee went down:

I think we need to start backing off the “impressive victory” narrative every time one team barely beats another or when a lot of points are given up by both teams. FSU beat 10-2 Louisville by two scores with their 3rd string QB in one of the most dominating defensive performances I’ve seen in a while, only allowing 188 total yards to the…[Read more]

BiG Team (Michigan) vs SEC Team (Alabama)
Future B1G Team (Washington) vs Future SEC Team (Texas)
Really hard for me to reconcile FSU being left out of the CFP. And believe me, I’m no fan of the Seminoles.
– Washington hasn’t had an impressive victory since the summer. If the “eye test” is a category, how is continually winning games by one…[Read more]

The only way things will change is if people refuse to watch the product. Otherwise expect more of the same for eternity.

Why? Because 10 years from now is going to remember it? Fat chance. If Harlan agreed to a cooked up scheme based on nebulous “future considerations” more fool he.

This is a room full of pirates with only self interest to consider in most cases.
That’s the line of the year. Never have truer words been spoken.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic CFP Rankings in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago
If style matters, how could you have UW as the #1? They’ve been just getting by since late summer. I mean never in the history of the AP poll has a ranked team won so many consecutive games by so many low scores. The committee leaves out an undefeated FSU team that won its CCG by two scores but props up a Washington team that won the majority…[Read more]

The networks are calling the shots, are they not? Seems hard to believe that this CFP isn’t entirely based on television audiences, though FSU no doubt is a national brand with its own partisan fan base.

I agree…but this example is especially egregious and doesn’t provide any cover for them. I mean, Alabama barely beat Georgia and should have lost the week before to a mediocre, at best, Auburn team. How soon that performance is forgotten when it doesn’t meet the narrative.

I’d really like to know how they voted. And also if it’s a majority or unanimous vote that carries the day.

I agree…the chairman of the selection committee, Boo Corrigan, is the AD at NC State. He should have been fighting tooth and nail for FSU, no matter the in season shenanigans. I’m certain that this turn of events is the nail in the ACC’s coffin. I can’t imagine Clemson, UNC, Miami or FSU being part of a conference that won’t look out for…[Read more]

Yeap, team sports shouldn’t be beholden to a selection committee. It’s almost like the selection committee has turned into a bunch of figure skating judges.

If you look at Texas’ schedule, they’re lucky to only have one loss (just like Alabama). They just barely escaped with their lives versus Houston, KSU, and TCU.

College football is just like big business…about as crooked as a three dollar bill. I don’t care what logic they used to leave FSU out of the CFP, they’ve lost all legitimacy in my eyes.

Every single one of their losses is to teams in the Top 20. Meanwhile KSU is ranked #23 but has a loss to an unranked Iowa State team.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic SEC CCG Repercussions in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago
If we’re talking Texas, besides their loss to Oklahoma, they had numerous close calls this year. They barely beat Houston (bad team), they barely beat KSU in OT (8-4 team/4th in Big 12), and barely survived TCU (bad team). Do those results matter? In fact, prior to the last two games, they were winning but doing so unimpressively. My gut, and…[Read more]

It is hard…head to head matters, of course, but Texas’ problem is that it beat Alabama three months ago while Alabama beat the undisputed best team in the land last night. Recency bias matters as well… plus there’s the fact that the SEC has a tremendous amount of influence in the world of college football and no one is going to lift a finger…[Read more]
