BleedsRedUte started the topic D line play in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
I’ve read most of the posts and agree with many of the things stated that need improving. I didn’t see anyone mention the lack of pressure on the QB with 4 down linemen, and more importantly allowing the QB to escape and make good gains.
This was a main reason for the loss at Florida. The defense had Florida in 3rd and long many times, and…[Read more]

BleedsRedUte replied to the topic There is a report out that ASU staffers were leaking info to opponents in the forum Pac-12 2 years, 7 months ago
So does this mean that there won’t be any leaked info for the Utah game and ASU will play great and make it a trap game that our Utes won’t be ready for?

Ok, I thought Thomas ended up with it in the endzone.

If he fumbled the ball before being down, why isn’t the recovery in the endzone a touchdown? Sorry, I didn’t check what they specifically ruled on the play, just that it was not a touchdown.

BleedsRedUte started the topic Who will fill the position? in the forum Football 2 years, 9 months ago
Ahead of football media day and the start of Fall camp, I have been watching some of the game replays on PAC12 network, and am really appreciating what some players like Covey and Tafua brought to the team effort.
Covey has sure hands to secure the punt to start with. He was always a threat to take it all the way. He was tough, and could take a…[Read more] -
BleedsRedUte started the topic Rising Improvements in the forum Football 3 years ago
I don’t see it discussed much, but I would think that coaches should work on Rising’s fundamentals in securing the football when he runs. It seemed like he lost the ball a number of times last year when hit, but was lucky very few resulted in turnovers. I’m afraid opposing teams see this on film and will concentrate on knocking the ball loose…[Read more]

BleedsRedUte started the topic First PAC12 championship in football in the forum Football 3 years, 3 months ago
Congrats to the team and coaches for a great year of entertaining football, capped off with the championship. Utah was one team that showed up big for our conference and gives it some credibility.
I am 80 years old January 9, and graduated from the U in 1965. Lifelong Ute fan (yes during the days of Bill Marcroft and Paul James). A lot of Highs…[Read more]

Worster was the most impressive player overall with his size at guard, ball handling, defense, and shooting. He has the biggest upside being just a sophmore. Glad we have him and hope he develops under Smith into a very good player.
Agree on Mahorcic. At 6-10 and 226 lbs. he gives the Utes some muscle inside that we haven’t seen in years. He…[Read more]

BleedsRedUte started the topic Concerns for the Oregon game in the forum Football 3 years, 5 months ago
I believe if the Utes bring their A game with very few mistakes (missed assignments on pass defense, punt blocking, flags for stupid fouls, etc..), they can prevail.
The offense has been great, and we need that to continue. The running game must be solid, and most plays designed to take advantage of their pass rushes, like screens and short…[Read more] -
BleedsRedUte started the topic Dangerous Situation in the forum Football 3 years, 5 months ago
Nothing more dangerous than a one win team, home field, nothing to lose at this point in the season. I Look for a lot of gambling on Arizona’s part. Lots of blitzes. Lots of trick plays. Lots of going for it on fourth down. High energy.
If Utah coaches haven’t prepared the team to match the energy and give a great effort, the same they…[Read more] -

I believe Utah State used the QB for punts in a similar way long ago. I’m thinking Riley Jensen, but not sure.

BleedsRedUte started the topic Special teams and Run Defense in the forum Football 3 years, 6 months ago
The Utes can win if they have some good play from the kicking game and run defense.
I have some confidence in the place kicking, but the punt team blocking was really suspect last game. On the first block the blocker completely wiffed on the player coming from the left side.
There is something wrong with the punt blocking formation that has…[Read more] -

BleedsRedUte started the topic Tavion Thomas in the forum Football 3 years, 7 months ago
Thinking about Thomas and how it is too bad he can’t hang onto the ball when he looks to be the best running back. At 6-2 and 220 lbs. he is a good looking athlete and only a Sophmore.
I don’t know if Kyle will continue using him at RB and hope he starts securing the ball better, or if he will be benched this next game.
My thought is to do a…[Read more] -
BleedsRedUte started the topic Rant about the game, but some keys to improving in the forum Football 3 years, 7 months ago
I have to admit to only watching the 1st half of the game. Its terrible, but I can’t watch them play like that, so I turn away, hoping some miracle happens.
The poor Offensive line play is just a continuation of the last several years and many have touched on this. Surprising to see poor defensive line play/pass rush but that can improve.

Any chance Smith brings some players from Utah State? There are a couple of good ones, that added with Carlson, Martinez, Jones, and others could make for a good start for the new coach.

This next basketball coaching hire is going to show us what Harlan brings to Utah sports. I think he has had pretty much a free ride up till now.
I hope he can find a coach that is great at identifying talent and then actually recruiting them to Utah. The new coach also needs to be a great developer of players once they get into the program. …[Read more] - Load More
