It is possible, even likely. However, it is not a done deal.

When a school wins a conference championship that should not be the end of post season. Unless the G5/6 has their own playoff, they need to be included in the D1 playoff. Next, they need to decide if they want the glory of championship at their own level or to most often be a opening round speed bump for the top level. If BB is any indication,…[Read more]

I think I agree with you. I just don’t think there is any reasonable way to compare one conference to another so the only way is to determine it on the field. The first round of playoff would only include the G5 champs and the at large. The first round winners would likely be the at large and the champions from what is left of the Bit 12 and…[Read more]

After more thought, I would like to see the conference champions of the top 10 conferences get an automatic bid into the playoffs with 12 teams. I am happy to see the PAC, B1G, ACC, and SEC champs get the first round byes. The G5 (or G6 depending on the outcome of the Big 12) champs come next with an at large team (1 or 2). The SEC just needs…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic One old man's grades on our position groups in the forum Football 3 years, 12 months ago
A+ is too much for the LBs. Lloyd is great and there is a lot of new young talent, but there are several other great LBs and good defense groups in the Pac.
The DL will surprise you. Even without more big names, this group is deep and will wear down a lot of OLs with relentless rotation without drop-off. Forth quarters will be interesting for…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic It's time to be honest about the Ute Oline in the forum Football 3 years, 12 months ago
I agree that there is lots of pressure on Harding. But I don’t think we understand just how hard it is to get every single position group solid and wining the majority of their matchups all while playing 9 games against conference teams that mostly have more resources, much more developed programs, that all want to desperately win games as much…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic It sounds like John Pease passed away 😔 in the forum Football 3 years, 12 months ago
I had the opportunity to listen to him at a coaching clinic years ago. That man had so much knowledge and could provide so much useful info after every single drill. Too bad all that didn’t get put into a book.

Charlie replied to the topic Any insight on these recruits? in the forum Football 3 years, 12 months ago
I think this class will be small. We need to understand, due to the COVID free year how we are going back to the usual scholarship limit. With the portal, we must allocate a number of spots to that source that will be resolved after the year. This numbers game will be a gift to USU and even Weber State as some athletes slide lower than would be…[Read more]

I love the reference, this or the Team Down South. This all came from someone trying to assign this school our rival. It would seem that we are not allowed to pick our own rival.

Love it, but the next piece is the scholarship box or tier at the top of the east stands similar to what we had 25 years ago. That will also cause us to raise the lights to the height of the west side and get them out of the eyes of those of us on the west side (a small complaint).

I am not sure updates from practice are going to do much about the questions. With so many young players in the phase where improvements are the greatest, every new year will provide upgrades from names buried in the list. The good news is the coaches have a better idea where they are because they can be measured against a front seven that is as…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic PAC 12, B1G, ACC forming an alliance? in the forum Pac-12 4 years ago
I thought a Pac 12, B1G alliance was enough to counter the SEC. There is no question if you add the ACC this alliance is greater than the SEC. Need to also pull in ND. The alliance also keeps college football together as it relates to most the P5. I would next love to see a standard 9 game conference season with two alliance games scheduled by…[Read more]

I remember reading a study by the White Sox or the Cubs that found the trough urinals much more efficient considering space than the fixtures with spacing. Much quicker to get 500 guys through at halftime. So they kept them in a renovation. I don’t mine, but then I was in the army. I also remember taking my kids thru that format once, they…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic How many catches per game in the forum Football 4 years ago
The defenses will determine these numbers. We develop as many options as possible. Then, game by game each defense will have cracks that Ludwig will go after. If the defense fails to respond there will be rinse and repeat and each game will have different number distribution. The next most important factor will be the score in the second half…[Read more]

Was not on their 2 deep depth chart but is likely still very good material and may just have 4 years left. Could pay off down the road.

Where I use to work… there were always incredible numbers of strangers from China at the firewall door. However, not a one had a reason to be there and we were sure none had good intentions. It is true, the Y allows more freedom and less accountability in route running. Less necessity to block and support the run game. He will excel in the G5 and FCS games and would have had a hey day last year. Problems will surface when his QB faces a P5 rush and the P5 defenses will not also be contending with a good running attack.

Checketts, unlike so many local talking heads, is not so much a Y fan. My issue is wanting more Utah football / basketball time on the ‘drive’.

It is true if you are living in the 80s and your VCR is still blinking 12:00. If you pull forward 30 years you can note the change. But again, change is hard.
