Charlie replied to the topic I'm not convinced that moving on from Scalley would be the best option in the forum Football 5 years ago
Thank goodness this will be figured out by someone that will understand the problem much better than someone that only hears a sound bite. It is possible to miss the signal for needed change, but it is also possible to overreact to a problem that does not exist. I think the only thing that makes sense is to wait for the whole story and/or wait…[Read more]

One of the problems with the word that is the focus, is that in some context it is a horrible racist word while in other context some use it in everyday friendly conversation. Most often when used in friendly conversation it is between and among African Americans. When someone is responding to an African American that has used that word by…[Read more]

What is driving down the covid19 deaths from estimate to actual? Early mortality rates of 5%+ are not holding up. The shutdown was meant to slow the spread but other than keeping hospitals from being swamped was not intended to reduce infections. Historically, flu seasons tail off and end in May. Talking heads are free to pick a reason and…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Anyone here successfully transferred football season tickets to a trust? in the forum Football 5 years, 3 months ago
At one time, I seem to remember, you were allowed make a transfer once. Don’t know the current practice for sure. I expect if there was an issue they would allow a one time transfer to other family members. I have just not seen any effort to take tickets away from families, that would surprise me. I expect much less symphony if you wanted to…[Read more]

Goodness. Keep the original account owner’s name on the account. Provide mailing address and email of the person that will do the admin. Continue for decades. As long as the tickets are paid it continues. No one at the U is running down deceased or moved away account owners. Let us know if this ever does not work.

Charlie replied to the topic And the annual LarryK player exodus begins . . . in the forum Basketball (Men) 5 years, 3 months ago
First, the transfer portal likely will approach the activity of regular recruiting but for sure will touch every school regularly. The new normal will likely will involve those with very few minutes reviewing their options. A successful strategy may involve bringing in above team average players in numbers that increase due to below team average…[Read more]

Deaths from COVID-19 is compared to number infected verified by a lab test. It is wrongheaded to compare it to deaths compared to reported, likely, maybe infected verified without a tab test. I have yet seen an apples to apples comparison. If we compared COVID-19 to the number of reports with symptoms, it would be a much smaller number. We…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic the color commentator on that last foul on Gach was absolutely out of his head in the forum Basketball (Men) 5 years, 4 months ago
Well, on the inbound play just before Gach took a charge that was called wrong the other way. On the 3 pointer, from in the arena, the defender slid down Gach and landed easily a foot past and inside his feet. I am sure the Colo. coach tells his player he was much, much too aggressive on a 3 pointer at that point in the game. All in all, Colo…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Complaining about Coach K in the forum Basketball (Men) 5 years, 4 months ago
Given the point we are at with Larry’s contract, the number of minutes played by underclassmen, the class coming in next year – the current moment is not a review point. I have questions as well but I try to wait for a point of opportunity that realistically offers a chance for change. I would prefer to wring my hands at that point rather than…[Read more]

We can hope he follow Bolles path. Lost at first, followed by not so bad but many WTF plays, followed by many very dominating plays yet not perfect. He has more time to come out of the JC days and adjust to D1 than Bolles. I just think it is possible to start out lost but grow to be good enough for the NFL.

Charlie replied to the topic Listen guys. Larry needs to be given a fair chance. in the forum Basketball (Men) 5 years, 4 months ago
Compared to other Pac teams I would not view this team as fabulously talented. Great building blocks but not at all the level of talent of the top of the Pac. If the key players stay with next year we will have the best talent in several years. That talent with experience can give us a chance to compete with the top of the Pac but will not get…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Been seeing a certain conference realignment idea lately in the forum Football 5 years, 4 months ago
Don’t see this. A sixteen team conference does not make more than the two current conferences. The desperation is not at all close to this sort of move. The Pac 12 would try another commissioner before they would give up like that. Much more likely would be standardizing the P5 schedules with more P5 opponents. The P5 schools as a division…[Read more]

Beginning in 1957 we played the Y 8 straight years in SLC. Starting in 1928 we played the Y 15 times with only 2 in Provo. It’s been done before why not again? Games should be played mostly in SLC. Even better, mostly in SLC and alternating with USU.

Sometimes a school can have two great QBs each better than any QBs at other very good programs. Possibly, another school could take the second of the two QBs using that step to pass the first school.
Possibly, a very good QB, someone like Alex Smith, can get hurt and lose the job to a backup, move to another team and have more success than the…[Read more]

I remember when Miami was unbeatable, and Florida State, and Florida, even Penn State, Oklahoma, USC and others. It looks that way now, but then the new juggernauts show up. It does not flip fast but it always flips.

Charlie replied to the topic Utes finish #16 in Final Poll! in the forum Football 5 years, 5 months ago
Post season games are different. Exactly half of all the countries very best teams lose. Top 15 teams loose half their games with other top 15 teams in general. One of the top 15 teams win 2 games. Not sure, but it seems more that half the CCG losers lose to another team that is still on a high. Often teams blasted in the postseason follow up…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic "Grade the 2019 Utah Football Season" poll in the forum Football 5 years, 5 months ago
I have to be happy with a second place finish, best yet since last year we were not the second best ranked team. Can we be happy on the way up? Are we at the point that finishing second is not good enough? I think we have learned that the frustration factor is much greater for the team finishing second, much greater than that for all the other…[Read more]
