If you are as big as Jakob Poeltl, you can afford to stand and hold the ball on the block for a second, because even if someone pokes the ball, you probably aren’t letting go.

The thing that sucks is that he has the potential to be THE GUY that bends the defense around him. There are a lot of tall skinny guys that have figured out how to not get the ball poked away from them.

If I was the coach, and we were tied with 5 minutes left in a game that we absolutely had to win or I lost my job, and I had to play either Mahorcic or Carlson, and not both, I would play Mahorcic without thinking twice about it. Thus far, Gach is the best recruiting job that Smith has done, and Gach is NOT going to make this team significantly better whether he plays or not.

Also, in case you think I’m forgetting Gach, I’m not. I just really really really don’t think he’s going to play this year. Even if he does, don’t forget that he is likely the same player he was when he was here. Super inconsistent, a walking turnover, a player with immense defensive potential that somehow finds a way to be a bad defender.

I don’t disagree there. I’m not so sure the WR group is better, maybe a little bit. I’d consider it a wash. TE? Yeah, that is the one group that is clearly better this year. Better in every way with that group.
