I think he just mixed up Howard and Rose. Howard can play this year and still maintain his redshirt.

phone autocorrect for would’ve? i don’t do the dictate but I’ve seen plenty of times where people don’t enunciate and get some odd results.

I suppose we could be disagreeing on semantics. Rose did not play in 2022 so one of his 5 years to play 4 is gone. You can call it burning his redshirt or just call it did not play – coaches decision. His only opportunity to gain a 6th year to play 4 would be after his eligibility had expired and he received a successful medical waiver.

You get 5 years to play 4. Entering 2023, Rose was down to 4 to play 4. He’s already burned his redshirt

This reminds me of a Pete Sampras quote about Andre Agassi. Agassi had gone from one of the top rated to almost being not good enough to play on the tour anymore. Agassi turned it around and eventually won a major. Afterward, someone asked Sampras how he felt about the Agassi turnaround.
Sampras replied, I respect Andre for getting back to the…[Read more]

He was taking kicks in pre-game against OSU so I would say that he will be available at any point between this coming Saturday and December 23, 2027. Details to follow

Arizona State is missing their entire starting O Line. Utah has been using as their starting center the guy that we’ve been told for years is the most talented lineman in a group that is collectively the deepest and most talented ever at Utah. Which apparently includes 2016 when all 5 starters went to the league.
Every team has injuries. You…[Read more]

When did Rising get his own camp? Per Whitt:
We have a saying in our program that when the recruits come in, you will become us, we won’t become you, you will become us. The young recruits get sucked up into that philosophy, that mindset. Our older guys do a great job of setting the example, setting the expectations, then demanding those…

Central Coast Ute has brought it up a couple of times and I believe it’s the missing piece. The Utah medical staff has cleared Rising to play. They also have a different motivation that Rising’s surgeon and thus a different threshold. ElAttrache’s appears to be higher for what he is allowing Rising to do.
If it was completely up to the U…[Read more]

I’m saying that they should have a plan for it. Whether the plan works is always open to interpretation.
If CAL can put up 40 points with a kid getting his first experience against the same Oregon State team that gave up 7 to Utah, you have to wonder why. And to clarify, Johnson has been QB3 since the Rose Bowl and QB2 or higher since the…[Read more]

There is a 3rd option: everyone involved screwed up. Not out of malice, but they got it wrong. I’d say full stop, but there are close to 1,000 posts on this subject and we are still doing our RATT impression (round and round, what comes around goes around, I’ll tell you why).

Statistically speaking, the 10 month figure is already the low range and any recovery time less than that would be the outlier.
Without knowing sample size, we have to assume 11 months is the mean. We also have to assume a significant majority of the sample is between 10 and 12 months, so for the sake of argument let’s say that 80% of high…[Read more]

Both. He believed that between the 3 QB’s and his staff, they would be able to continue at close to the same success they have had recently. He also believed that Rising would be back and I don’t think that’s in dispute.
He didn’t go to the portal because of those reasons and the comment he made about no one coming because of Cam is just…[Read more]

I’m not bashing OnlyU here but he doubled and tripled down on both Rising and Kuithe playing in the Florida game. So I’m in agreement that the messaging in the program that was getting to him was obviously flawed when viewed in retrospect.
What many of us are struggling with is why was it so flawed? And were the assumptions made reasonable…[Read more]

Let’s see, the coaching staff constructs the roster and determines who is best qualified to play each week. As injuries happen, the “next man up” is inserted into the lineup and the game plan must be altered accordingly to put the player, who by definition is not as qualified as the person he is replacing, in the best position to succeed. If…[Read more]

Tony – we talked on email last year when I was having the same issue. It’s been great since until the last week when I’ve had a couple of posts reply to OP instead of the post intended. I’m hoping it’s just an issue of the increased traffic the last couple of weeks because I’ve also noticed longer than normal load times when opening up a thread…[Read more]

In truth, going into the season with Barnes should have been enough. If Rose and/or Johnson beats him out, even better. Barnes is in his 3rd year in the program and they know exactly what he can and can’t do. It might not have looked pretty, but it should never have been bottom 6 offense in the nation bad.
That’s the bigger issue because you…[Read more]

That might be sound reasoning in an air raid offense, it’s an excuse for not playing them yet this year. Ty Jordan didn’t play because he was an exceptional pass blocker.
Utah has played freshmen every year at RB since 2016. Hard to believe Ganther isn’t able to get them to do what he needs, especially considering what’s left in the room.
