2008 National Champ replied to the topic Wilner writes that the Utes have the 8th best QB room in the conference in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
yet he has two high schoolers listed as starter and rated above established starters. Wilner missed the boat with this list and not just Rising

2008 National Champ replied to the topic If the Utes ever have (or want) to change their name, I want the Red Rocks in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
I’m not originally from Utah so it’s pretty easy for me to admit that I’ve always associated “Red Rock(s)” with Colorado – thanks U2. And even after spending a bunch of time in Bryce, it took a few years before I finally made the association with the gymnastics team. Put me on the list of those who think mascots are unnecessary, and if you have…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic 4 Utes with combine invites, no surprises in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
I’d have been surprised if he got invited. I haven’t heard any buzz about him getting drafted which is the first indicator of an invite.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Spring 2023 Captains and Leadership Council in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
If Johnson or Rose can’t beat out Barnes, then yes I am willing to lose them or have them switch positions.
Huntley a full complement of offensive starters against UW. Rising had everyone except Kuithe against USC. Both had been getting starter reps for over a year before those games. Barnes found out 30 minutes before the WSU game that he was…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Spring 2023 Captains and Leadership Council in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
Sure, but my original statement was:
I really feel like this Ute D is a lockdown corner and elite pass rusher from being among the top 10 in the country.
So when you follow with “You don’t believe Battle will have anything to say about the CB position?”, that is the premise I am speaking to.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Spring 2023 Captains and Leadership Council in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
I tend to take a wait and see approach with transfers. For every Darren Carrington who as ready to be a star the minute he stepped on campus I can give you 20 names that either needed time to work themselves into a leading role, never made it to campus, or only played special teams / garbage time.
Everyone is free to make their own…[Read more]

Some interesting names on there. Many outside the program don’t think Barnes should be on the team – if posts are to be believed – but the TEAM wants him on the leadership council.
Rising and Kuithe as spring captains shouldn’t be surprising given their tenures and stature when healthy but they can’t participate.
Also Ritchie being on the…[Read more]

Still a walk-on. Not everyone who walks on at Utah has had a scholarship offer.

hmmm, can’t see any potential problems with that

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Texas/OU move to SEC delayed? in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
Many schools have been able to buy their way out of contracted leave dates so I guess there’s been an expectation that everyone will do so. For the G5 conferences that only get a couple million a year, it’s a net gain to pay the buyout and move up. Texas/OU probably would have had to pay a big enough buyout that it would negate anything extra…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Walker Lyons commits in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
Folsom is Sacramento so I’m not sure it’s any farther to Los Angeles than Salt Lake. His future road opponents will definitely involve more travel for his family.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Cal Poly reeling in the talent in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
The WAC and the Atlantic Sun conferences are going to merge and form a 10 team FBS conference in either 2025 or 2026. Cal Poly isn’t one of the schools but Utah Tech and Southern Utah are.

5* Sam Huard and 4* Ethan Calvert have both committed out of the portal. There’s also rumors that 4* WR Lonyatta Alexander will commit.
That’s quite the haul for an FCS program

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Coach Prime hires two former head coaches in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
That extensive experience you are giving Dykes credit for was going 19-30 in 4 years at Cal. He ran his dad’s schemes, couldn’t figure out how to spell defense let alone coach it and needed Jared Goff to throw for 4700 yards to get his only P5 winning season. Anyone who thought he was a home run hire who would put TCU in the playoff his first…[Read more]

I’m not predicting 6 wins, just pointing out the possibilities. As TCU and USC proved, it doesn’t take 3-5 years to go from sucking to relevant or better because you can bring in players out of the portal who are ready to play immediately.
Personally, I think that Colorado’s ceiling this year is roughly the same as Arizona in 2022. They lost so…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Who's going to keep the streak alive in 2023? in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
I’m always on board for a big man TD. My money would be on Tafuna but Pepa would be enshrined on the Jumbotron if it happened.

I think all of the “bottom 6” in the conference are beatable and Colorado gets 3 of them – Stanford, Arizona, ASU. If you assume they can handle Colorado State that’s 4. Rhule may get Nebraska to being a contender in the B1G again but I wouldn’t expect them to be much, if any farther along that path than Colorado so that’s 5 possible.
If…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Utah needs Nike! in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
I didn’t know either and the google-ator doesn’t really clear it up. Looks like it went from being a line to a subsidiary in 2017 and then in 2022 it started operating independently. Can’t really tell if Nike still owns a stake but you were probably more right than I was.
