I actually love how our athletic department refers to them as STUDENT-athletes. College sports in general are doing a disservice to their S-As. 99% of them will be forced to earn their living in some field unrelated to sports.

My only question is, if kids are going into the portal with a destination already nailed down, then why are so few kids ending up at those destinations? I thought I read somewhere that there were 1900 basketball players in the portal and only like 35 of them ended up getting scholies at new schools?

This is so true. My son is in the recruiting process right now, and the coaches are trying to find out more about my wife and I than they are about my son, I think. They practically want film of my wife and I watching games.

Seems to me that Smith is seeing his shooting percentages and expecting it will scale with more minutes. After what I saw out of the Running Utes the last two season, I’ll gladly take a SF who shoots 43% from deep.

Why should an allowance be made for a kid making a bad initial choice? It’s a good life lesson: Don’t expect to be bailed out when you make a bad choice. Maybe that would push kids to study schools/situations harder during the recruiting process.

Again, I think there’s a simple solution: Don’t allow players to transfer unless the coach leaves, in which case they can transfer freely anywhere without penalty.

I’m being a little over the top. I do find it funny that football scheduling arrangements go so far out. So many things will change between now and then. By then it might be flag football because we’ll know more about CTE and tackling will be illegal…I don’t know.

Just think: The kids who will play in that game are 6 years old right now.

Not to be even more of a Debbie Downer person, but the game in SLC isn’t until 2033. That’s 12 years from now. Most of us will be dead before that game happens.

If Karate Kid was a part of your life growing up, give Cobra Kai a try. It’s a good mix of nostalgia and new characters, rehashing of old plot material and introduction of new plot material, drama and comedy.

I want parity too…until I don’t. Utah is closer to the top of college football than the bottom. Call me selfish, but maybe parity isn’t the best thing for my particular rooting interest.
