  Disappointing. Hopefully he has a change of heart after his mission when he sees the Big10 beating up on USC week after week.
  
  Utah and Georgia features their TEs significantly more than USC. Don’t really understand the move here.

  Good for him. Safe choice while his body atrophies over the next two years. I’m sure NIL played a factor. This kid won’t even be BIG game ready for three years from now. Two years off the field and one year to get back into to playing shape. Other than some of the local fans, most of us won’t even remember his name especially with USC playing in the BIG. Chances are high he won’t be playing for the current coaching staff at USC. I find the pre-mission announcements to be quite silly, especially considering the volatility of college/semi-pro football. His decision has zero impact on Utah football IMO. Plenty of ready to play players for Utah in the next few years.

      I’m pretty sure he was injured for his senior HS season, so that’s where the two years come from.
      
      Like was said, good for him, good for his family. Take the money. 2-3 years is a long time in college football these days, and who knows, we may yet see him at a Utah school someday.

        Honestly, I’m not too sure haha. I got home about 18 months ago and that wasn’t a thing so I don’t know what that idea is coming from other than simply choosing to return home before the call is over, which definitely is more understood then it was 20 or so years ago

        The LDS Church allows service missions now and the length can be customized a little – one year, 18 months or more. They are typically suggested for those struggling with physical or mental issues that need to be home but their some families that are organizing missions abroad or in other states where they have connections. The church won’t house these missionaries and expect them to live at home or with family/friends. I believe in Walker’s case the family has connections in Norway and have creaated a service mission opportunity for him that will last about 11 months. If my understanding is correct it will entail working/serving in some capacity on an 8 to 5 sort of schedule. That’s a pretty sweet gig if you can work it out compared to two years of full-time service.

  USC is close to home – so that makes some sense. And, if NIL money came, that would make sense too. But, Kincaid had more catches in the USC game at Rice-Eccles than all of the TEs at USC for the whole season. That is where this is perplexing.

    Folsom is Sacramento so I’m not sure it’s any farther to Los Angeles than Salt Lake. His future road opponents will definitely involve more travel for his family.

  Clearly we would have loved to have him commit to Utah. However losing him to USC is much like losing someone to TCU in 2011, we lost him but they are no longer a rival. He will have zero impact on their last year in the Pac. With the mission this is like a commitment from a sophomore or junior in high school, there is still a long time to go. I have no idea how NIL works related to payments long before services are rendered. It will be interesting to see if some schools end up making NIL investments for athletes that do not end up on campus. Either way, Utah needs to find, develop and utilize the next group of TEs before Lyons becomes productive somewhere.

  Dissapointed, but I hope that he individually does well. Seems like a nice, talented kid! I also have heard he’s only taking off one year for a mission. Interested in that, and what only one year off will do instead of two.
