What’s the definition of a pessimist here? I don’t consider myself one but I’m definitely not on board with the idea that Utah is going to win the Big 12. I think this is a 6 or 7 win team and maybe, with a few breaks, a 9 win one. Does that make me a pessimist?
If so, I guess to answer your question: I’ve rarely gone into a season where I’ve…[Read more]

Sources makes it sound like I have some super secret contact deep in the athletic program. It’s not that cool just some contacts who know somebody and somebody knows somebody else but they are fairly connected and mostly reliable. Very 3rd or 4th party

If you go the opposite way: which games do you give Utah an 85% or greater chance of winning? Cal Poly

These generalizations of Utah dline or rb is always solid isn’t absolutely true.
RB was a problem last year. We had nobody behind MB. I don’t see how that’s any different this year. We have nobody behind Parker. We can’t have Parker go down and Rogers as a featured back. It’s a far ways off from JJ or MB being next man up.
RB is a concern this year.

LOL! The “Holy War” is one of the best rivalries in all of college athletics…. BECAUSE religion is at play. There is nothing else like it, and that is why it fascinates people outside of its influence and generates the interest it does. I am of the COJCOLDS religious persuasion, and frankly, we need to be a little thicker-skinned and able to…[Read more]

I think the smart play is for Scalley to go after Hill hard, but with a definite cap on what the program is willing to spend. This way if by some fluke Hill wants out and joins Utah, awesome! Utah gets an experienced P4 DC with ties to the program and a knowledge of Utah’s system at the expense of BYU. The optics are great here for Utah. I think…[Read more]

Somehow the Utes consistently field solid running backs and Defenses. I am most concerned that the O-line will actually perform up to the preseason hype, and Dampier and company will be able to duplicate or improve on their New Mexico performances. With a new OC and all the new offensive parts, it has yet to be proven everything will mesh and…[Read more]

I got frustrated last year with our lack of passing. So I zeroed in on the receivers. Every team had 8 in the box to stop the run and pressure the QB leaving 1 on 1 battles on the outside. Arizona especially there was a lot of grabbing and holding. I saw little or no separation. Wilson would hold the ball hoping his main target would break open…[Read more]

yep. This is what I was going to say. With a guy like Dampier, he can get loose and win us any game currently on our schedule. Any number of other factors could combine resulting in us losing any game on our schedule. Who knows?

There are no sure losses. And none are sure wins based on the last 2 years of data.

One of the reasons I’m optimistic for this season is that I think there are no “sure” losses. I think the worst chance we’ll ever have to win a given game is 30%.
If we had Ohio State on the schedule, I’d look forward to it but put it down as a loss in my projection of the season. But Texas Tech isn’t Ohio State.
So, pessimists (projecting…[Read more]

HoosierUte replied to the topic Trump signs NIL overhaul order to curb big money influence in college sports in the forum Football 1 week, 2 days ago
This does nothing. “pay to play” was already against the “rules.” This order specifically allows third-party payment for NIL which is the landscape we have now. This issue requires actual legislation with a framework, or even better, the government should stay out of it and allow the schools (conferences, or dare I say NCAA) to develop their own…[Read more]

Our RB room is not so different from last year (which isn’t great, but not terrible either). We have one mostly proven guy and several other unknowns. I would rather have this year’s RB group than last year’s. First of all, we have a person who I believe is a much better RB coach. Second, we have unproven guys behind our #1, rather than a guy who…[Read more]

Anyone who thinks they are superior because of their religious or political beliefs has issues.
I have my religious beliefs and political feelings. But, I have learned that my beliefs do not make me a better person. I hate the polarization that exists today in our country because we put our own beliefs ahead of being a decent person.

The last few years it seems the injury bug has hit the D line and DEs. Depth will be crucial. Hopefully there are a couple guys in the pipeline that just need an opportunity to prove themselves. WR has been a problem for a few years. I think the complicated scheme on offense played a role. More stacked sets and motion in the spread to help get…[Read more]

Vakalahi, Vimahi and Fano are all high level defensive lineman. It will be one of the most important battles of fall camp to determine if there is a starter at the other end or if it’s a committee. That will be telling. I like those three a lot. John Henry-Daley and Kash Dillon at end positions are hopefully ready to contribute. On paper, they…[Read more]
