Meh, I appreciate it but it’s OK. I don’t base my self esteem on my utehump vote count. Since I’ve had 2 kids play NCAA sports, my perspective on what college sports are really about is probably different from most peoples’ perspectives. To me, college sports are more about developing student-athletes into adults and teaching them skills that will…[Read more]

He may declare for the NFL but I’m guessing his size will keep him from being drafted. He may make more money playing college ball.

Of course I wouldn’t think you were a bad parent for attempting to instill important values on your kid. I think that is great.
two competing values are at play: 1) going after your dreams, 2) learning to honor your word… integrity… that sort of thing. The way I see it, one of those things ends in 4 years or less, and the other lesson will…[Read more]

If your boss doesn’t think you are worth paying attention to, just stick it out anyway? Come on. You don’t believe that, and you wouldn’t tell your kid that either.
Funny you should mention that. I do have a kid playing an NCAA sport right now (not at Utah), and he’s thinking of transferring. Some issues with the team and with his playing time.…[Read more]

Too bad. I didn’t know he was 1 and done.

I get what you are saying, and I agree with the sentiment of it, but I have to disagree. These kids have 4(ish) years to make their dreams of making it big come true. 4 more years of pursuing their dream. If you had a kid who was an athlete at one of these schools, who had a dream of making the NFL, or just had a dream of getting real playing time…[Read more]

I agree. The team has been better than the previous past two years.

I disagree, but for different reasons that others have given. I simply don’t like the message that the portal sends to these kids: That if you’re not getting what you want, just quit and go somewhere else and keep doing that until you do get what you want. At an impressionable age, we should be trying to teach our young people the opposite.

Weird for some reason I thought he had another year. Wonder why we would use time and resources into someone who would need more than 1 year to develop. Seems like a big waste that we took him into the program.

I have read Utehub for a while, and resisted posting. However, I cannot take it anymore. A few thoughts regarding men’s basketball and Mark Harlan. I really don’t get the hate for either. Harlan has done what an AD is supposed to do raise money and administrate a budget. His few hires have been solid. The athletic department as whole is as goo…[Read more]

I appreciate that, but I don’t need the internet stranger respect. 90% or more of the things I post online (including this post) are random passing thoughts I have with little to no thought put into them. I doubt that is something worth respecting… but I appreciate it nonetheless.

I don’t think anyone with a brain is expecting this team to do well in Big12 play. We would be a decent MWC team, thats about it.

Funny how Utah State is on its third head coach in three years and they still do well. Smith is the fruit of the poisoned tree. He never would have gotten the Utah job but for Harlan not wanting to be bothered and doing an actual coaching search. If you look at all of the teams that Utah has beaten this season, well, they’re teams that any P4…[Read more]

Sounds exciting, though I’m assuming at this point he’ll play 1 season for us and if he does well a B1G or SEC team will swoop in with a truckload of cash.

20 touches in two years, 4 of those were scores, and three of those were >30 yards… he’s a great get that was logjammed at his prior school

This is what Luginbill says about Dampier.
Dampier was one of the biggest surprise steals in the 2023 class for New Mexico and is about to be one of the hottest commodities on the market for his dual-threat traits and creative play-making. He reminds us of Jayden Daniels as both a runner and thrower. He’s the type of player that can pull a…
