You make a great point. I’m not trying to say that an organization doesn’t encourage or influence the behavior (intentionally or unintentionally) of it’s members. That’s obviously the purpose of any organization (including my church). And I’m also not saying that it shouldn’t hold itself accountable (and find ways to improve) if there were some…[Read more]

On the inside, the Barton family is completely behind everything Utah with Mikki at the center of rock solid passion for the University of Utah. A family support gift that very few schools enjoy.

I need to read the Herren books.
May I add a couple of biographies to your list?
-“Bill ‘The Hill” and the Jump Hook” – memoir of Billy McGill the Ute legend. Billy and a cowriter are the authors. Terrific. I never realized just how close to the very best players in the world at that time – Chamberlain and Russell – McGill was. If he stays…[Read more]

If you were more honest about how the person’s actions could be influenced by the organization (in this case, an organization specially created to influence a person’s actions, their religion). This might be more compelling.
Instead, according to you, if a person within that organization does something that they feel is in alignment with with…[Read more]

Money is here to stay. You’d only be cutting off your nose to spite your face.
I was asked years ago why I worked for X company. Being in a position as I was I answered truthfully, “you pay me”. I found it confusing that anyone would ever think I went to bed as a child or wake up today as a professional thinking about what I can do for X…[Read more]

This is very ironic. People in this thread are criticizing a person (Tanuvasa) but not the organization (the University) for the person’s actions. That seems very fair and logical, right?!
When it comes to my church, people are criticizing the person AND the organization for that person’s actions. A bad apple like Tanuvasa surely doesn’t…[Read more]

There are 17-18 million members of our church worldwide. There will be bad apples and/or weirdos for sure. As there are in ANY organization, especially large ones. Name an organization that you believe in or are proud to be affiliated with and there is a 100% chance I can push back in the same way you and others are in this example. Let’s take…[Read more]

Thanks for posting interview. He sounds like Sitake jr. He made the right choice for him. $$ and religion imagine that. He gave us 3 years and is a well spoken athlete. I wish him the best.

Why NBA Life Stories Hit Different
I’ve recently been on a kick reading basketball player memoirs, and wow—some of these books go way deeper than I expected. I started with “Unguarded” by Scottie Pippen, which gives raw insight into his side of the Bulls dynasty, and then dove into “The Mamba Mentality” by Kobe Bryant, which is more visual but…[Read more]

I had a girlfriend freshman year (at BYU) whose “FHE dad” dropped that line on her after knowing her for only a week.
And she bought it.
I had to find out from a relative that she was engaged, because she didn’t have nerve to tell me herself.
That guy eventually dumped her for another girl a few months later, using that same line. She…[Read more]

Can confirm. This happened to my wife twice while in college. She turned them down and I’m happy she did, and not just because she ended up with me.

I know two women that this happened to. I know both the wives and husbands very well so I know the stories are true. Both boyfriends claimed to have received revelation for their girlfriends that they were supposed to be married. Both husbands ended up being abusive. It happens. There are lots of people of our faith that use it to manipulate…[Read more]

If he wants to be a “Utah man” because of NIL, I’d rather he go to Tennessee than Utah. Let’s be real, he’d only be going to Utah if he received more NIL and not becuase he wants to be at Utah.
Ryder Lyons didn’t commit to BYU because he loves BYU. He committed to BYU because of $$$. Anyone who says he loves BYU and NIL had absolutely had…[Read more]

I just read the D’News article about the day. Repeated what I posted only better along with some other quotes and information. It’s worth a read.
I’m happy to read that he didn’t dwell on the Tanuvasa stuff. Lander addressed it a little as well. He said that he was angry at first but emphasized how football has become a business and he’s not…[Read more]

I’d love to hear any summaries of interviews today as 1280 and 700 did interviews throughout the day of Utah players and Coach Whittingham.
I was in and out of the car some so I just heard a few bits and pieces. What I did pick up:
-Whittingham said that both Barton and Snowden may play some offense this season. He referenced Barton’s tight end…[Read more]

You’ve always had it out for the church. Your perspective could not be further from the truth. I don’t know a single person who approached marrying someone that way.
We believe in God. We pray about big decisions. Marrying somebody is the biggest decision of your life. We don’t try to use God to convince somebody to marry us lol.

What I have noticed in many things, especially sports, the best predictor or the coming year is not last year. In statistics there is the concept of ‘regression to the mean’ which helps predict the next data point. This concept is even more important when the most recent data points have deviated more from the mean. Of course there are exceptions…[Read more]

I fucking love that line.
“hey babe, you’ll never believe this, but I really wanted you to marry me. I know you aren’t as into it as I am, but I totally asked god what should happen and guess what! Not what you want, you don’t matter, but what I WANTED is the SAME THING GOD WANTED!!!!
