Utah replied to the topic Hypothetical: Who's your pick for Utah HC (assuming KW leaves)? in the forum Football 7 months, 3 weeks ago
Jon Sumrall
Ryan Silverfield
Jamey Chadwell
Spencer Danielson
Barry Odom
Jay Hill
Jake DickertThere is a list of successful HC’s.
I’d also talk to Dan Mullin and see if Chris Petersen is interested. If DeBoer became available I’d go hard after him.

Whitt is and will always be a legend. Urban imo is a better coach but arguably Whitt’s done more for the program.
I wish we could have seen a Whittingham team that supported and expected as much from the offense as it did the defense. That could have been really special.

$500-600K is damn good money, especially if you live a simple life and invest significant portions of it over, say a decade-long career. It’s chump change though compared to what Canadian hockey players make in the NHL.

Urban Meyer, but I only chose him because Ron McBride is too old.

Since most people are clamoring for Whitt’s “retirement”, who is your hypothetical pick for the HC job?
Someone mentioned Petersen and DeBoer in another thread, and I’d 100% go with either over Scalley. I’m a big Whitt fan, but I’d have taken Petersen even in Whitt’s best years; he’s that good IMO!
Who’s your hypothetical pick?Realistically,…[Read more]

Well, to that point, he said today during his press conference words to the effect that he would step down when he thought that he was no longer value added to the team.

For those in the know, has he slowed down, is he working the same amount of hours, or is he coasting? I’m doubtful that he’s coasting but I wonder how far removed he is from the details of coaching up player.
I’m just saying, is Whitt operating at 100% or is he switching roles to Scalley mid stream?

I thought Ludwig made the call on Wilson, right? It’s well documented. Also, Wilson is Ludwig’s recruit, no?
Also, Ludwig stepped down.

Who knows what the real reasons are for playing Wilson when he clearly is not ready and needs more development, especially considering he has had some sort of injury (before the ISU game). When both Rose and Bottari can step in and the offense works, obviously something has gone wrong in the evaluation of the ability to make the offense go.…[Read more]

we’ve all forgotten a Utah example.
Troy Taylor coach Jake Browning at Folsom HS, went to Eastern Washington as OC, Freddie Whitt played the part of Marvis Barry in Back to the Future, Taylor OC’d at Utah then took over his own FCS program before Stanford.

As the captain of the ship that is Utah football, Whit is responsible for everything. Even if the mistake is made by an assistant coach, well, who hired that assistant? Kyle. The buck stops with him.

I do feel rather badly for Isaac. Very much needed a red-shirt year to learn how to play at the higher level, (didn’t help his brother is in the NFL so there were very high expectations of him).

The experienced starters are making $500,000-$600,000 now, which surprised me. If you can have a few successful seasons, they’ll retread you over and over and you’ll end up playing for over ten years for half the teams in the league. lol. Same with the Head Coaches. The same ones just keep bouncing around the league.

Amen, brotha! Abundantly clear after what we’ve seen of the four QB’s that Isaac should’ve redshirted this year and been running scout team. Sly said it best in the post-game. “They did wrong by Isaac Wilson this year.” Which means they did wrong by the program as well.

Anyone with eyes that see can discern that Utah’s chances of winning are better with Rose than Wilson. The same is true for Bottari. Who knows about Huard (seeing as Whit closes all practices).
Wilson may one day be a good or even great college QB. But he is CLEARLY not there now. I would be fine with that if there weren’t clearly better QBs…[Read more]

The biggest problems with bringing in a HS coach in any capacity are their lack of recruiting acumen and they can’t bring their own coaches with them. And isn’t there still a rule that you can’t recruit from their school for 2 years?

Utah had a respectable showing in a ‘road’ game against Mississippi State. Other than St. Mary’s in the Hunty in a few weeks and a neutral court games (in South Dakota) against Iowa, really nothing at all challenging before the Big12 games start. (Really wish we had a few more strong opponents in pre-season. One of those used to be against BYU…[Read more]
