I am not sure you have looked at this from the Cal perspective. Realignment is very likely to hurt Cal and could be seen as unnecessary in the big picture. At work most decisions I was free to make but inside the limits of those I could were things I would be able to recognize were best done by providing a ‘heads-up’. In this case, the only reason to not communicate would be fear that someone up the line may slow the process down. Also in this case, someone up the line wanted communication that may not technically be required. I have never worked in Cali government but I can see this would be a mistake to keep from your higher ups. Also funny because when I was a kid, Cal was the head office and UCLA was the extension campus in SoCal. I wonder if this is a done deal or are they working thru an accepted invite towards a done deal?
Diabate could play rush end as much as LB…all depends on Gabe. We will utilize nickel much more in the next few years but more likely it’s an additional safety/LB hybrid type player. If Gabe Reid wins the DE spot opposite Van, Diabate is your starter alongside Reid at LB. If he is only best against the run then Lander is the passing down LB, Diabate moves to rush end and Gabe plays against the run.
Do people in Houston get really into the University of Houston? No, they’re the 2nd or 3rd most popular team in their city behind UT-Austin and sometimes Texas A&M.
Does Texas Tech extend interest much beyond Lubbock? Not really, I live an hour north and they’re the 2nd or 3rd most popular team there, again behind UT-Austin and sometimes Oklahoma.
Cincinnati is neither a large market, nor the most popular team there. Actually, they don’t even come in top 3 in their own city. It’s Ohio St, then Kentucky and then either Notre Dame or Michigan depending on zip code (source only lists the top 3)
I’m not arguing that SMU, USF etc are grand-slam choices… but that the dropoff (with the exception of Oklahoma St) isn’t that terrible.
I like hearing any rumors just to see what people are saying or thinking. If you’re not going to tell us where you heard the rumors, tell us the additional 6 teams being added.
The only markets that move the needle that I could see the PAC adding is Houston and Dallas-Ft. Worth. So you’d have to convince UH and TCU/SMU to the BIG 12, which I think is doable. San Diego is also on the board and although they’re in SoCal, it’s only something like the 28th best market. Which isn’t horrible, but it doesn’t increase your payout per school really.
Ilaisa Tuiaki, defensive coordinator
Age: 43
Tuiaki boasts extensive ties in the state, coaching defense at Utah. He was a Broyles Award nominee as a position coach in 2013 (Utah defensive line). Tuiaki might not be a fit outside the region but could see his profile expand.

Brian Johnson, Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach
Age: 35
The only question with Johnson is whether he would be willing to return to college or aim for an NFL head-coaching role. He interviewed for Boise State’s opening in early 2021 and will be a candidate at Utah, his alma mater, whenever Kyle Whittingham retires. Johnson has coordinator credentials at Utah, Houston and Florida, and coached Dak Prescott at Mississippi State.

So, I understand we have been calling ourselves “The U” for over a hundred years.
“The Fake U” has been doing so only very recently.
Is this something that should have been copyrighted, or is there any other protection that should be involved?
Only 5 thumbs down? I was expecting double digits.
#57 JT Greep, Sophomore Long Snapper, 6-0,221
JT Greep is a Glendora, CA product (Simi Valley east of LA). He had been named the #1 long snapper out of California. In 2021 he played in the last 9 games for the Utes, including snapping for Redding’s 50-yarder vs Oregon. A freshman, Logan Castor, is the only other long snapper on the roster, so I expect to see JT handle all the long-snapping duties for the Utes in 2022.
#57 JT Greep
Seems like there is a ‘flavor’ of rumor for every kind of Ute fan: Pac10, B1G, B12, ACC, SEC, etc. Everyone is throwing their **** at the wall to see what sticks.
If only there was some way to get USC and UCLA to change their minds; I think the Pac12 was our best option.
