I certainly would prefer that Utah beat Oregon at its best. However, every team has key injuries this time of year including us. We have to deal with our own injuries and make adjustments based on the opposing team’s injuries. We have all seen games when a star DB goes out with an injury and the QB immediately goes after the replacement. I am sure that Scalley is still planning on Nix playing but also has plans for what they will do if he can’t play. Oregon is doing the same with us. They have watched the film from the last two Utah games and have seen Cam’s limitations. (I hope that backfires on them.)
Last year when we played Oregon, their starting RB and three receivers were out. Our defense took advantage and we destroyed the Ducks. This year’s Ducks still have two dynamic runners that are difficult to tackle. They are a run-first team and that won’t change.
EDIT: Bo Nix being out is bait. I don’t buy it. I think it is a really pathetic laughable attempt. I personally hope Nix is playing. I want Utah to beat down the new Duck prodigal child. When Utah wins this Saturday I want them to be handed a three game losing streak and just drink their tears after Lanning leaves to Auburn.
I won’t believe Nix is out until I see it. This could be a big game/hoax orchestrated by their coach.
If Lanning orchestrated that…LOL like literally how pathetic do you have to be. Good luck in the SEC with that pathetic crap.
If it’s limited to one guy at a press conference or a bunch of randos on Twitter, it’s probably bait. If DJ is reporting it, it’s probably real. He is a professional sports reporter and has to get these ones right. If he loses credibility, his career is over.
Counterpoint, kinehack and Gordo still have careers…
They are not professional sports reporters – they are professional sports opinion writers. There’s a difference.
I will say that I’m glad he’ll be out. It really gives us more than a puncher’s chance. I am not glad that he’s out because of injury. Mixed emotions for sure. I just want the win. Injuries are part of the game. Ty Thompson has a composite rating of .98xx on 24/7 He has the tools, but not the experience. I just can’t help thinking about Matt Fink. Let’s hope he makes lots of mistakes.
Took a quick trip to Vegas yesterday. When I landed they had Oregon -3 on the board at Caesar’s…as I leave right now the line is Utah -1.
Clearly points to a certain player or players being out.
No one felt sorry for us when we lined up without Rising, Thomas or Kuithe or when we lost Kincaid, Bernard, Maile, and Moko in game at Wazzu. We didn’t feel sorry for SC when they lost Addison and Gentry so I certainly don’t feel sorry for Oregon down a player or two.
Screw em. Go Utes!
This game is still a major challenge with their backup qb (as appears is the case)
@Onlyu how is Glover and JJ doing? Bernard and TT looked sharp against Stanford but I would like to see them back in the rotation.
Both should be available. JJ practiced last week but wasn’t needed so gave him a bit more rest. Similar story with Glover.
And no one felt bad for us in the Rose Bowl last year when our secondary was in shambles.
I don’t think Herbie even realized Bernard was playing on both sides until the Buckeyes started heavily exploiting it in the second half.
Everybody keeps going back to the Matt Fink game. Let’s look at what actually happened there, he was on his way out of the program, there were no other healthy scholarship QB’s on the roster and so he made 20 ill advised throws outside of the structure of the offense 3 of which Michael Pittman turned into long touchdowns and a couple of picks. It was the ultimate F*^* it game. It wasn’t even coaching because the db’s were in position on all of them, Pittman just kept winning athletically.
But for the Moss injury Utah still wins that game by two scores.
If we are going to talk about an actual dog against a backup let’s look at the 2017 Oregon game against Braxton Burmiester.
100% Hellhound152. That 2017 game still just a total head scratcher.
Its a trap!
I for one hope he plays. If he doesn’t play and we win, there is the tired old excuse we would have never beaten them at full strength and if we lose, then it looks even worse.
But indeed we’ve played many games over the years with critical players missing (and faced opponents in similar circumstances). Like Coach Whitt says, “next man up”. You play with who you have and don’t make excuses.
I got an tired old excuse, 3 in a row bitches…
Any Oregon fan who makes that excuse is an idiot. We are missing multiple starters as well (Kuithe, Filinger).
Yeah, once I saw that it was the same ankle that Nix broke and had surgery on exactly a year ago, I knew it was extremely doubtful he would suit up against us. Regarding playing teams that have injuries to key players, that’s the cost of doing business in football. When we have injuries, half of our opponents don’t care and the other half are glad that we have them.
David James, the week of the Oregon game last year, reported that Whit was retiring. I put no credence in that guy
Then why did the line radically shift overnight?
Something’s going on here & this makes perfect sense.
If it happens I wouldn’t base it off DJ’s ability to take bait. So the point still stands he thinks Whitt is retiring and makes wild guesses like a goofball.
