How do you guys feel about these November 8:30 time slots? Seems you are getting most of them. I think it was 2018 or 2019 when we had to play Colorado last game of the year at 8:30 in 20 degree weather and then having to play Oregon for the CCG the following Friday. We had multiple injuries and illnesses after the game. It had a huge effect on the CCG. I froze that game and came down with a cold.
It’s more like a punishment for players and fans after a great season. I could handle the Sept-Oct late night but Nov at night can be cold. What are your thoughts?

BDParticipant
Same with the 2018 Holy War (“A Rivalry for generations and a comeback for the ages!”) – cold, night game.
Then the CCG against Washington the following Friday.

That game sucked donkeyballs. I was in the premium loge and drank too much after the calf bounce pick 6

Utah ISU outdrew BYU – scumdevils.. different timeslots but Utah is somehow still getting eyeballs. That bodes well (we’re not getting Deion eyeballs though)

Yeah I hate it. I’m on the east coast so it’s been rough staying up way late for those games. The only way I’m staying up this Saturday is if byu actually has a chance to make it to the big 12 championship, otherwise it’s not worth it

9-2. C’mon, Lasso…your boys have earned a few late-night sacrifices.

Jim VanderhoofParticipant
Wow Lasso I thought 8:30 was late your at 10:30 start. It will be around 28 at kickoff. You’ll be happy to not be at the game.

I lived in VA from 2002 until 2011. You can take a nap, record the game, get up at 11:30 watch it and skip commercials. I’ve done that many a time. Or just sucked it up and started watching and not getting to bed until the wee hours of the morning.
Since the game will get over after midnight and you’re watching, your penitence is since it’s a religious school your team has to lose. TIC See there are benefits to not attending a religious school.
And on a funny note, a Notre Dame alum cornered me and a Cougar in an office this last week and made us argue about the Holy War. Which was funny, because the Cougar is NOT a football fan and started arguing really stupid stuff. Like he’d heard the Bernard TD shouldn’t have been a TD because the ball was “outside the plane of the end zone” and then he pulled it up on his computer and we both laughed at him. Then they asked me about that one play. I said, well I’ll admit it was a hold, however did you see the facemask by the WR on that play? And did you happen to see our DT get pulled down/clotheslined a couple plays later? Then I said, “I don’t count on my team needing the refs to win.” If they can’t win in spite of the refs they weren’t good enough. The ND fan was going crazy. He said, “I’ve seen you guys in here arguing for 40 minutes and neither one of you has sworn!” The ND fan was pretty much on my side because I told him two of my best college football experiences were at ND though we lost and at an Army game. His dad was a cadet. So we were both mocking the clueless cougar. Good times.

I love the BYU late night games. Took some getting used to, but we play much better at night than early. As long as it’s dry I can handle the cold. It’ll be mud 30s so as long as no wind, I can handle it.
Growing up going to zoob games in the 80s, all the games started at 1:30 or Noon. Those early season games could be hot. But it seemed right at the time. Now tv dictates. As long as I can see my team I am fine with it.

I’m not a fan of the late games. 8:30 start, walking back to the tailgate, traffic etc, we get home at like 1:30am. Then I’m wired and can’t go to sleep until 3 or 4. Plus it’s hell for my 12 year old. Either he’s up with us until 2am or we have to leave him home, either alone or a sitter that won’t stay that late.

Back in the PAC12 with all teams in the Pacific/Mountain time zones, any team could host a game in the late slot (715ish on the West Coast, 815ish for the 4 corner states). So those late games could be spread around.
Now in the Big12, not really feasible for a game to start after 9PM in Texas or after 10PM in Florida/WVA/Ohio, so only teams out west can be assigned those slots.
Likely looking at lots of late slots for the time being (same would happen if/when some of the teams out west make it into the BIG2 leagues in the next round of expansion.

I hate the late starts. I am in eastern time zone and the games often finish after 230 am. It sucks to be awake and upset early in the morning! I guess I need to record them and watch in the morning.

It is nice to see people complaining about something besides the offense but we all know that dead horse has been beaten to a pulp!🤪
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
I fully expect that dead horse to befoul my Friday evening so it’s not like the issue is so far in the past as to no longer be relevant
