It really makes me wish we had bigger donors.

A QB commit to BYU that (mark my words) will down in history just like Ben Olson, Jake Heaps, Tanner Mangum. As far as us, Utah just needs a very successful season. I believe that we will. And recruiting will 📈 again.

Let me guess, they bought that Lyons kid. that’s only thing that can do now days to be competitive. THey can’t win without it! does Utah and other schools wish they they had the money, HELL YEAH!

BUT we will do what we do with what we’ve always done and make the most of what we have and be successful as history has shown and why it makes BYU and its fanbase so very nervous!

BYU with all the money and resources could never accomplish what Utah has done in the past two decades and is why BYU has to dominate the Utah airwaves this off season nonstop until football season starts to ensure they remain at the forefront on the minds of every soul in the state of Utah. They cannot afford to let the UofU creep back into the hearts and minds of some of the population that resides in Utah county. This is a turf war and it begins in Northern Utah.

Whether it’s UO or the zoobs, this kid is committing when he is for a reason.

They would have a more difficult time bankrolling him in 1.5 weeks.

The kid is gonna make a bag at either pbyu or Oregon. He might as well take the one that’s gonna make his parents happy.

Tuesday is NOT going to sting at all. Kid is at least 3 seasons away from the BYU football field and a lot can change in that time. BYU has had many top ranked QBs that busted and fell flat on their faces. BYU doesn’t develop QBs.

Utah doesn’t even pay attention to what byu is doing I suggest you do the same.

I say let them have the hype. It will just make the fall all the sweeter.

Utah is about to get a commitment from the #1 HS OT in the country.

BYU has to over pay for a LDS legacy kid.

Are you talking about Ojo? He’s projected to Texas. Have you seen something different?

Utah is doing very very well with Ojo.
The Utes can’t match Texas for NIL but Utah has put more Oline in the NFL over the last decade than Texas not including Fano and Lomu who are both projected 1st rounders in the 26 NFL draft

Harding is an elite OL Coach and recruiter and Utah is lucky to have him.

A lot of positives at Utah for Ojo to consider plus Utah has NIL money and they will make a very competitive offer to him.

It’s definitely 50/50 with Utah and Texas right now.

Meanwhile we are recruiting “diamond in the rough” guys because we have no other options. Doesn’t look great.

as much as i want to say BYU has been lucky the last couple of years, it sure does seem to coincide with Jay Hill becoming a coach there. I seem to recall him being a lights out recruiter and a very good coach.

One is coming but some healthy Provo bro MLM and software money doesnt make Utah easier.

Perhaps we shouldnt have spent 80 million to unseat rabid fans in the South end zone into a jazz game lower bowl mixer space of and used that money to build up the program some more–perhaps.

i live a long ways away from the program so what do i know.

Ryder is LDS and the Lyons name has a long history at BYU. They should be the favorites to sign him at a discounted NIL rate but they are not.

They are still overpaying to sign a LDS legacy kid because the optics of losing him to USC or Oregon just doesn’t look good in the churches eyes.

      They are not winning.

They are paying considerably more than other schools to get these recruits in FB and BB. With no guaranteed return.

In the era of Ryan Smith vs Phil Knight for the wunderkind, all we can really do is buy a jersey from the team store and make the occasional donation.

I know the person who has been making donations to BYU. It is not Ryan Smith. That’s all I can say.

A few years ago high profile Heaps signed with TDS, boasting he would take a victory formation knee 4 times against Utah and lead BYU to a natty. Didn’t quite live up to those predictions.

The Lyons kid makes more sense considering his family background. Plus, if NIL is what it’s cracked up to be, why not attend your family’s school, where they all went to? BYU has the advantage now with LDS kids, who were a likely lean but now with NIL and willingness to pay top $$. It is what it is….

All that happened was (1) a Mormon kid, committing to (2) his daddy’s alma mater, with (3) a 7-figure incentive. Zoob nation wants to paint this as though “they’re back”, and had overtaken Utah as the more prized in-state institution, but this kind of recruiting “win(s)” only happen when there’s a “legacy” kid seeking approval from parents and church leaders. So once or twice in a generation. We saw this before, back in 2009, when Jake Heaps, Ross Apo, and Zac Stout announced their commitments at a PR event at Iggy’s, and we’re seeing it again now — 16-yrs later. Heaps and Stout were flops, and Apo took a backseat to an unheralded 2-star WR (Cody Hoffman) throughout his entire career. The zoobs might be getting a commitment from a top-rated QB, but that QB will still be coached by ARod.

I see it a big recruiting win for BYU. Maybe he is a bust, but that is the case with every recruit. If he had signed with Utah, I would be very excited and bullish on Utah recruiting.

Yes, there are family connections. But he had plenty of offers elsewhere. His older brother (also a highly sought recruit) signed with USC a couple years ago. He had the same family connections, but chose elsewhere. The point being, this is still a big deal for BYU. The same way it would have been a big deal for Utah to sign Pace Mannion’s son. Having a family connection is very helpful, but when it comes to national, top-level recruits, it is not enough.

Yes. The biggest issue is that BYU is adapting. Is Utah? I think some fans here are whistling past the graveyard right now. We can laugh at BYU overpaying players but they have clearly figured out their shortfalls and are now in the process of doing something about it.

Utah? I don’t know. It feels like Utah is keeping with the status quo and I’m not very optimistic that’ll work in the NIL era.

What I see from BYU is that they’re proactive in adjusting to the changing landscape of college football, while Utah is stuck doing the same thing that might have worked five years ago but is unlikely to work today.

How does Utah keep up? BYU clearly has the momentum and resources that didn’t exist even a couple seasons ago. What’s Utah’s move?

I am as big of a Ute fan as you will find and I despise BYU, but even I have to admit that this is the beginning of the end of the rivalry. Not because we won’t play them anymore, but because they are going to absolutely dominate us in both football and basketball from here on out. Their recruiting in both sports is now top notch meanwhile we can barely pull in 4 stars. Its a shame that for the next 20+ years BYU will only run the state of Utah, but compete for championships each year.
