What is this, the No Fun League?
Seriously though, they let plenty of celebration and/or taunting go on all the time. The “I got a first down signal”, the different sack “dances”, the dropping of the football as the player crosses the goal line.,, Sure Covey should have been flagged for flexing against ASU but you should never try to legislate…[Read more]

neither Baylor nor Illinois could keep the clock running in the 4th. A lot of 3 and outs when they could have put the game away.

each down by 7 at the start of the 4th quarter. Always interesting how supposedly “easy” weeks with not a lot of ranked teams playing tend to produce upsets.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Rumors have Oregon's offensive coordinator becoming the ASU head coach in the forum Football 2 years, 8 months ago
I don’t know about young and dumb.,, If they could find the current version of 2017 Matt Rhule, they could be back to their usual 7-8 win level fairly quickly. Rhule had done well at a traditionally bad Temple and saw the potential of Baylor coming out of the Briles debacle.
Arizona State has always been able to attract good athletes but they…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic “Washington has this explosive offense so Utah can’t compete in the forum Football 2 years, 8 months ago
I think Washington is the wrong comparison for the Utah offense. Washington has 4 very good to excellent receivers that they deploy all over the field to overwhelm the secondary with a very accurate QB who is able to make quick decisions and exploit mismatches. A fully heathy USC does a lot of the same things schematically with the difference…[Read more]

I honestly can’t think of a similar situation to him in a comparable P5 program.
Look no further than Jimmy Lake at UW. Hand-picked successor to Petersen. Managed to run the program into the ground in less than two years.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Utah Pac-12 Title Game Scenarios in the forum Football 2 years, 9 months ago
UW would be the only possible opponent that would not be a rematch. Better chance of getting a 2nd team into the at-large spot for the cotton (?) bowl. Pac needs to add some cash to the coffers and a little prestige before finalizing the next TV deal can’t hurt.

SMU could be of interest to him. Dallas is close enough that the family could watch his home games and they are also in a good position for the next round of conference checkers.

Or 2016. In Salt Lake true freshman Herbert hits Carrington with 2 seconds on the clock so that 3-7 Oregon beats 8-2 Utah.
How about 2017? Braxton Burmeister, who was incapable of throwing the ball past the line of scrimmage, plays for an injured Herbert. They run it 49 times for 347 and win 41-20.
Home/Road doesn’t seem to matter between…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Tavion's numbers in the forum Football 2 years, 9 months ago
Rushing Defense? #17 at 108.1 y/gm. Overall they give up 397.8 y/gm so if my math is correct, 289.7 passing (i don’t see team rankings @ NCAA.com).
UW beat them by running enough to keep their D honest and Penix hitting his receivers all over the field. Utah hasn’t shown the same ability with their passing game but should have plenty of…[Read more]

so you’re saying that the sudden reemergence of the running game the last two weeks might be related to playing against the #’s 124 & 129 rushing defenses?

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Oregon, USC, Utah all at 8-1 in the forum Football 2 years, 9 months ago
Seeding doesn’t matter on a neutral field. If they ever go back to playing the CCG at the top seed’s field, then I’ll worry about it. Otherwise, whatever it takes to get into the top 2.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Hubert Next Year in the forum Football 2 years, 9 months ago
I really don’t know the criteria they use and if it has gotten tougher to get the waiver since they changed the redshirt rules to 4 games. I believe that you have to wait until your eligibility expires before you can apply so it’s a long way off for Hubert. If he has an all-conference year in 23, I’d imagine he would put his name in the draft…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Hubert Next Year in the forum Football 2 years, 9 months ago
no matter what happens if/when he applies for a medical, everyone got a free redshirt in 2020 so 5 to play 4 became 6/4.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Hubert Next Year in the forum Football 2 years, 9 months ago
247 shows Hubert as in the 2016 class but he took a mission so his clock wouldn’t have started until 2018. 2022 would be 5th year with 2 redshirt years so he should have 2023 with the possibility of a medical redshirt in 2024 if he wanted to pursue that.

I want to get excited, I really do. But with kids’ decommitting, transferring 5 minutes after they get on campus, transferring after Spring Ball.,, I almost feel like I need to go back to the days where I would just locate a media guide 10 minutes before the first game to see who was on the team that year.
