Truth of the matter is that Whittingham can’t know that. Medical redshirts are weird in that they don’t happen at the time, they really only happen once the player is out of eligibility and then petitions to have an additional year. So he might feel good about still getting a medical RS, but it would be decided later. And playing would certainly…[Read more]

  • As many have rightly pointed out, recruit class rankings put a LOT of weight on class size – which doesn’t really always make sense. So I generally prefer looking at average recruit rating, but even that has issues. It’s obviously easer to fill out a smaller class and programs shouldn’t be seen as worse recruiters simply for getting another…[Read more]

    Some thoughts on Radcliffe

Full disclosure/caveat that I have no inside info or particular skill breaking down film

Radcliffe is a bit of an interesting case and frankly reminds me of Adarrius Harshaw, a 87.5 rated player who decommited from Utah…and ended up signing with Austin Peay. Harshaw had a great junior year and committed to Utah…but…[Read more]

  • We can (and should) take shots on lower rated kids who we believe in. That’s always been the case. As many point out, there’s plenty who exceed their rating or fail to live up to it.

In large quantities, the ratings end up VERY accurate. So the class should mostly be higher rated guys, but there will be low rated upside types either way. A…[Read more]

  • He’s an edge rusher, was seen as a fairly good one (high 3 star…not crazy high but 87-88 range).

Committed to BYU in 2021 class, went on a mission in 2021 and 2022 and then didn’t play this year.

Some noise that he was frustrated he didn’t get playing time in his first year off mission (he’ll be a RS Freshman next season), but a bigger issue…[Read more]

  • Laumea should also be listed as NFL. As should Keaton Bills.

So is UC-San Diego. Seems like we got a pretty good Tight End out of there a few years back.

Obviously, most FCS players aren’t Dalton Kincaid. But if a player is good, I don’t care where they were playing. Obviously I don’t know if this guy is good, just know that “He was at Holy Cross” isn’t enough to say he’s not good.

  • Because if you wait until after the bowl games, you’ve also waited until after most HS recruits have signed. And the HS recruits want to know who is at their program and the coaches want to know what holes they have. So they’ve shoehorned the portal in before early signing day.

Meaning that December (and late November) is the busiest month for a…[Read more]

Biggest issue with an NIL cap is that the courts would near-immediately strike it down and it would open up the NCAA to serious damages

  • With the amount of viewers and money that bowls bring in, I can’t see them going away honestly

  • The most common prediction (by far) is against Maryland in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Sometimes you see other opponents in the LV Bowl, but that bowl seems far and away the most likely (with occasional mention of the Sun Bowl and now apparently the Holiday Bowl)

We may not like it, but it would make a certain sense.

Barnes has gotten the opportunity and proves himself competent, so doesn’t want to go back to the bench for his last year. He wants to play, I get that.

And the reality is that he’s likely not going to get a good P5 opportunity unless the team is truly desperate for a QB. And BYU is local…[Read more]

  • Bit of a miscommunication here.

The post you reference is NOT saying Ute Hub is trashing the Big 12. It’s referencing a different post on UteHub that asked what happened to Utah’s online reputation and saying it should be obvious – that so many on Twitter have been trashing the Big 12 that of course it makes Utah fans come off…[Read more]

  • Radcliffe is an interesting case. (Caveat that I don’t have all his film and wouldn’t be the person most qualified to break it down anyway)

He had an incredible sophomore season and got recruiting sites as a composite high 3 star.

Then he missed all of his junior year with injury… But his recruiting rating kept going up until he was a…[Read more]

Arizona has repeatedly been mentioned as one of the strongest and best organized NIL collectives (a bit of a surprise given their relative position in CFB pecking order), so I’m aure that contributes

But…., they’ve also lost a lot of their top recruits recently. For 2024, they have two 4 star recruits and then another 4 who are 3-stars but are…[Read more]

  • I feel like 7 AM PST (when the advisory ends) is well before the game starts?

  • At this point it’s pretty tough to get through every possibility. There are 131072 different ways that the rest of the PAC12 season could play out. In 31808 of those, Utah ends up at least tied for second.

Trying ot figure out tiebreakers there gets ugly. Right now the idea is to beat Washington next week. And hope that Oregon and/or…[Read more]

    In the last decade alone,
2017 Myles Garrett (2016 Texas A&M finished 8-5 and unranked)

Yeah, conceding the touchdown there doesn’t seem like the right choice. Holding them to a FG wins the game for you.
