Do you think this is a good thing? Or is it Beck slowly but surely starting to adjust to Whit’s ball control play calling.
I don’t say it is a good or bad thing yet, but I felt like Beck was brought in with his QB to run his style of offense.
I don’t say that ball control is a bad thing, just would like to see Beck’s Offense installed and…[Read more]

Awesome. He knows he’ll get his payday soon enough.

Nice article about Nate Johnson. Some on here have wondered if Nate can be productive in this role. I love it. I loved it when Weddle and Vaki did it. I like to watch Taysom Hill and everything he can do. I get it that Johnson is not Weddle, very few are. But, he could be a nice addition to the offense this fall.

I am sure that he is compensated nicely by Utah donors. He just didn’t go looking for a better offer after the 2024 season. I appreciate his loyalty.

Why isn’t Ezra Ausar in the portal yet? The feeling among the insiders is that he probably won’t return to Utah. So what is he waiting for?
I’m just real surprised that with 10 Utes in the transfer portal right now, Ausar isn’t one of them.
Frankly, I’m also very surprised Sharavjamts isn’t in the portal either. I definitely expect him to leave,…[Read more]

Ausar sure did improve his free throw shooting. Proud of him for that. I’d love to have him stay if he wants to, but I agree that we can’t overpay him.
Apart from Dawes bring the #1 priority, id say #2 is bringing in a GOOD point guard, someone who is smart and runs the floor well and be the one the offense runs through. All successful teams have…[Read more]

Lander’s sister was on the radio on Tuesday. It was an entertaining interview. She was an AA volleyball player at the U. She said that her little brother had plenty of lucrative NIL offers and chose not to take them. OC then added that he offered Lander a weekly NIL radio interview which Lander declined to take even though it was easy money.…[Read more]

Sounds like Beck will utilize the tight ends more than he did at UNM. King will be in the mix, and it sounds like Andrews is standing out.
One thing I was happy to read is that the feeling in the locker room is upbeat in spite of last season’s total debacle.

Your basis for worrying about him blocking is that he can play multiple positions? I don’t get the logic because there is none. I mean shit. We want a guy that can block at TE to sometimes line up as a Full back and block from the backfield.

Dawes would be #1 on my list to retain. Potential 20pt 10reb guy. Reminds me of Shawn Marion. AJ will fine tune his game.
#2 Wahlin: hard to find a 6’9 player that can move and run the court. He can develop a corner 3 and an occasional drive to the basketball. He is a the ultimate role player and local kid.
#3 Mike S: many might disagree but he h…[Read more] -

Utah getting him to exit the portal so quickly indicates that Utah was willing to give him what he asked for, which almost certainly means Utah’s NIL coffees are much improved.
So glad KD will be back in a Utah uniform!

I agree he deserves more credit, but I’m not going to excuse the last two years as bad luck. Sure, part of it was bad luck, and I don’t think Whitt is as much the problem as some of you seem to think, but it is ultimately his responsibility.
Our offense wasn’t just okay when Rising was healthy, it was very good. The scheme fit our personnel…[Read more]

Well, if this Ficklin kid is as good as he’s showing in practice, it might reduce the odds of even having IW on the team.

Will always remember Hunter’s OT trey against his former team to help us beat BYU and will remember his work ethnic. Had some rough games, but always played with maximum effort. Wish him well.

Charlie, I like your posts and positive outlook. You’re always pro-Utah. But really? Whitt committed QB malpractice the past 2 seasons (not his first offenses btw) and you want to chalk it up to bad luck?
We see this one differently.

Beck is new to me but he appears to have 2 welcomed aspects. His history seems to be tuned into making a plan around what his players can do as opposed to getting them to fit his plan. Second, he appears to be open to methods beyond the common and typical. If my impressions are right, and I don’t have much at all to go on, Beck may create an…[Read more]

Thanks for all the comments to my original question. I’m thinking that if this Ficklin kid is more in line with the offense that Beck wants to run, that might really make Wilson redundant. We shall see.

Good point Eagle. I did note that Coach Whitt complimented his blitz protection Tuesday.

Charlie replied to the topic Who is Byrd Ficklin? in the forum Football 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Actually, we need to give Whitt more credit. The last few years have been awful, no doubt. But I stop and ask: how many coaches have better overcome the numbers of injuries at the QB position? Very few of the top teams have quality QBs in the 2 and 3 spot. Very few keep running along starting the #4 or #5. We could do better at backup QBs but we…[Read more]
