LSU lost a lot of players to the NFL as we did.  We saw how bad they are after winning the NC last year.  We lost virtually our entire defense.  It seems to me that it will take a bit to build it back up.  We have an experienced Oline and receiving corp returning.  But, we lost the best RB in Utah history and probably the 3rd best QB in Utah history.

We are not Alabama where we can just reload.  I hope we are good, but we will have a lot of new faces on the field.  I suspect it will take a while to get the kinks worked out and we enter the fire on week 1.

No matter what, I am just excited to see some Utah football.  My expectations are not high.

      Go Utes!!!

Fair to middlin. The situation of less training camp, and the weird schedule may even things out, or it may just advantage the teams with more raw talent. I think USC and Oregon are still the teams to beat. I don’t really care. I just want to watch my Utes play.

The fun part of this season is going to be discovering all the new players and talent. Can’t wait.

How bad were they?  They lost a one score game to an SEC west foe.  Maybe the way you should look at it is MSU won because they had a very experienced 5th year senior, grad transfer quarterback…

I think they were quite bad.  I enjoyed it, but they allowed more passing yards than any team in SEC history in a conference game.  That is bad.  I understand that Leach brought the Air Raid into Baton Rouge.  But, allowing over 600 yards passing????  A typical LSU defense would have shut them down.

Sounds like it was a schematic/pride problem.   I get it ProudUte, dillude yourself enough before the season and you will never be disappointed.

Whatever it was – it didn’t work.  I highly doubt last year’s LSU team would have given up the same amount of yardage.  They lost a ton of players on defense as did we.

I had high expectations last year because we had so much experience on D.  Outside of the last two games (without Blackmon) we were crazy good on defense.  Will we be okay this year?  Maybe.  I honestly don’t know.  I believe we have two starters returning.  That will make a difference IMO.  It is hard to make up for game experience.

Only gave up a net 9 yards on the ground though… haha

Yeah, that will help their rushing defense stats.

I see 2 potential losses — USC and ASU. If we split these 2, it would be a very good season all things considered. Can’t wait!

Offense and more offense. WRs need to step up big and not disappear against athletic teams. IMO, Bentley and Rising are going to be huge difference makers on offense. Big question mark, can the Oline deliver? Not too worried about the defense. Young defense will take their lumps early in the short season as the new kids acclimate to the P12 pace. Every year there is a season like this with heavy turnover the defense seems to hold their own and surprise kids we don’t know about right now pop up. Excited for the season to start and extended P12 football into the holidays. Go Utes!

This^ how will our Oline be? Honestly, think we have a problem and I’m not sure it will be any better. Oline cost us Oregon and Texass

I agree. I do think the Oline will be better though. Keeton Bills and Hunter Lotulelei are two new comers that are supposed to be really good. Jonny Maea should improve his game also. Haven’t heard much about Bam, not sure if he’s going to pan out.

Not to mention the 15 TDs our supercharged offense is getting per game.

I’m not sure what kind of defense LSU runs but my thinking is they didnt prepare properly for an air raid. In the PAC 12 you pretty much have to run 5 DB’s. I’m sure once defensive coordinators start watching more tape, they’ll adjust and things will even out. Not saying Miss won’t be good, just saying the SEC hasn’t played anything like a Leach offense for a while. But then again, maybe with the better athletes, Leach’s system will dominate, I guess we’ll see.

We may be better on defense than some expect.  Last year’s 2s and 3s could be good but not good enough to unseat the starters.  With the natural improvement year to year and more game reps, they could close the dropoff gap more than expected.

On offense, so much will be determined by the QB play.  The passing game could possibly be better.  With the changes, Ludwig may show more createtivity without Huntely and Moss being good at and leaning toward whan has been working befor.  Healthy Covey will boost the passing game, the next up backs will approach the game Moss gave us.

The OL will make the year to year improvements.  I expect Bam will get there and be good but it may take a couple of games to get there.  Given the last 2 games, I expect Ludwig has given much thought about how to counter an aggressive DL that our OL has difficulity controlling.

May not win the south but we will be in the mix.
