Add John White IV to the list. Anyone who can get 1500 yards while the defense is ignoring Jon Hayes moves up the list in a hurry.

While it’s always great to have your accomplishments recognized, going .500 against ranked teams doesn’t usually scream TOP TEN. The USC effect is real

Matthews will definitely get a bump after all the press from All-America week. He was borderline 4 star already (.8867)

I have no more idea if Barnes can handle the job than you do. I do know that he is 1-0 as a starter against a pretty good defense with Glover as the main back and a banged up Kincaid.
Barnes also beat out the guy all the fan boards wanted to be QB2 this season so he must have something going for him. Barnes, Johnson and Rose should all get…[Read more]

I never understand this type of thinking. Tuttle and Costelli don’t have good heads on their shoulders because they transferred? But someone who stays does?
By that logic, every kid who transferred to Utah does not have a good head on their shoulders since they abandoned someone along the way.

Cool. Now list all of the Transfer QB’s who have not been successful. I’ll start you off with Cooper Bateman, Jake Bentley, Charlie Brewer, Jack Tuttle.,,

Could not agree more. Any player on that team who is not in the competition for the starting spot at their position needs to be replaced on the roster as soon as possible. Anyone who’s ceiling is 3rd or 4th string needs to be informed so that they can find a place where they have a better chance at playing should they so choose.
Not everyone…[Read more]

I went through the list on 247’s scholarship distribution and it looks like Utah is currently at the 85 limit.
88 names listed but Mikey Matthews is on twice. Clegg, Fonoimoana and Helu are all listed but expected to go immediately on their missions. Carvaiho is also listed but has not signed to date. I think he might end up as a PWO if he…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Team speed in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
Featherstone was the receiver on the documentary Necessary Roughness. He was so fast that even rifle-armed Scott Bakula couldn’t overthrow him. Unfortunately, he only managed one catch on the season but man was it a doozy.

Any time you lose a lot on one side of the ball, there is always a temptation from a fan perspective to go young. To that end I came up with a hypothetical based on Rising, Kuithe, Kincaid, Vele, Enis and Yassmin being gone. The thinking is that if 2023 needs to be a learning year on offense, what would it look like if the skill positions were…[Read more]

he’s got until the 15th (16th?) to declare for the draft and has probably spent the last 4 days meeting doctors to determine not only his best immediate action medically but how it will affect his future.
give the kid a break. you’ll hear when he is ready to make it public

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Portal Kicker signed in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
Improvement is a pretty low bar. In my mid-50’s I can still strap up the cleats, tighten the chinstrap and put as many kickoffs in the endzone with my left foot as Utah kickers did this year

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Lowest Views Ever for Rose Bowl in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
The article is behind a paywall so I can’t check. All I could see was that the previous low was for Stanford-Iowa (Friday, Jan 1, 2016). #5 v #6 but two very small fanbases.
The better comparison would be the 2017 Rose Bowl between SC & Penn State which was also on Monday, Jan 2.

sorry, maybe that was a local colloquialism. work=school, i.e. can’t go to the bar because it’s a school night.
It may have been a bank/government holiday but not all of us work for those entities. Just like the morning bowls on Jan 2, the audience was reduced because many who would have Jan 1 off don’t have the same luxury.

you’re not wrong. although i think playing games at 2 pm local time on a school day is a bigger factor than the type of offenses featured.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Micah Bernard to transfer in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
I guess it’s now clear why Bernard walked on Senior day. Also helps to explain why Randle was added to the class as a 3rd RB. I still think one of the 3 moves to slot since that’s too much speed to have on the bench, but I digress. Thanks to Micah for everything he did for the program and best of luck wherever you end up.

Finally some rankings logic. Let me throw out some names: Texas A&M (6), Oklahoma (9), Baylor (10), Oklahoma State (12), Michigan State (15), Miami-FL (16), Pittsburgh (17), Wisconsin (18), Arkansas (19), Kentucky (20), Mississippi (21), Wake Forest (22), Cincinatti (23), Houston (24), parochial school (25). That would be 15 teams who were…[Read more]

Interesting. That Sugar Bowl scheme is the one that I’ve absolutely given Ludwig credit for which is why I’ve been so disappointed in what he rolls out for the big games since he came back. Even though it didn’t amount to a lot of yards, he kept running enough to force Alabama to defend it which opened up the quick passing game that ultimately…[Read more]
