krindor replied to the topic New WR coach? in the forum Football 2 years, 4 months ago
Honestly though, I’m willing to give the program the benefit of the doubt with coaching hires – they tend to do pretty well, so my default response when they hire a guy I don’t really know is to assume they know what they’re doing

krindor replied to the topic 2023 Schedule Released in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
Lots of great games and marquee matchups – Wilner listed out which games he thinks are the best in each week
The choice game each week, as we see it:
Sept. 23: UCLA at Utah
Sept. 30: USC at Colorado
Oct. 7: No marquee game (Washington, Utah and Oregon are idle)
Oct. 14: Oregon at Washington
Oct. 21: Utah at USC
Oct. 28: Oregon at Utah

krindor replied to the topic TRANFER PORTAL in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
Agreed – reality in today’s world is that you can never have too many QBs with portal losses… but the idea of putting more ahead of the other guys isn’t the right choice. We need to be looking for the next guy after Nate Johnson, Brandon Rose, Mack Howard – realizing that as much as we like all 3, the odds of all 3 sticking around aren’t…[Read more]

3. Utah’s rise continues
“Utah will sign an even better recruiting class in 2024 than it has in the current recruiting cycle with the 22nd-ranked class nationally.
“Obviously, the Utes do a great job recruiting within the state. But what helps them is with the consecutive Pac-12 championships and the consecutive Rose Bowl berths, they are going…

Looks like he’s quote tweeting a lot about Utah and Pledger seems to be pretty strongly supporting his idea of coming to Utah.
Given his other tweeted options (Tennessee Tech, Abilene Christian, Stephen F Austin) there’s pretty much no doubt Utah would be the top choice for him if we decided we wanted him. That said, there could also be other…[Read more]

Hate to lose him, but going back to his alma mater, can’t be too upset with him. Let’s just find a great replacement

Michigan 1977-1979 and 2004, 2005
USC 1988,1989
Wisconsin 2011-2013
Utah 2022, 2023Absolutely you’d rather win the game…but this has still been two very good years for the program and a good trajectory. Utah is ascending. Maybe not as fast as we’d like, but moving up in the world

krindor replied to the topic Utah Commit Dijon Stanley named LA Times player of the year in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
Looks like BYU recruited him as a DB (based on who they had recruiting him), but Michigan and Colorado were both recruiting him as an RB. My guess is that he profiles more as an RB.

Nope, his wife is actually at BYU as a sprinter for their track and field team

I’ll add that it’s probably only possibly because I haven’t lived in the state of Utah for 20+ years

krindor replied to the topic What's the latest on John Randle Jr? in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
Because I legitimately like both teams.
Grew up a Utah fan (my dad is an alum) and went to all the games (including rushing the field as a 9 year old and being called a gas pumper by Lenny Gomes). I’ll always be a Utah fan.
But when it came time for college, I chose to go to BYU. It’s a good academic school and they gave me an amazing…[Read more]

Looks like Stanley is generally seen as an RB (that’s what he was recruited as by Michigan and Colorado, among others), but BYU was apparently recruiting him as a DB (or at least having their DB coach as the lead recruiter).
So yeah, I’d guess he’s likely an RB

4 star RB out of Kansas, looks like we’re warm on him (by 247). On3 and Rivals both have us as likely leading on him (close with Kansas St in both cases)
He had an official visit here for the first USC game and had a great time. K State fan forums are talking about him and hoping they can…[Read more] -

Not sure it means anything other than Kuithe is considering coming back.
Transfer portal is only open from 5 Dec to 18 January. It’s a giant game of musical chairs and you want to find a seat before time runs out. If Kuithe isn’t making a decision until 4 January or so, most teams will have already finished their portal shopping by then. If…[Read more]

krindor replied to the topic The (Statistical) State of Utah's Program – Part 3/4: Television Viewership in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
VScore is just what I type when I get tired of writing viewership score over and over. And rather than a number, I like to scale it so the top program is 100% and everyone else is a factor of that. Just because viewership now is more than 10 years ago, but it’s all relative. So that’s why I use the V-Score %.
As to calculating viewership…[Read more]

I don’t think it’s football success so much as the very rough recent basketball years. A lot of traditional football powers have actually parlayed that success into better basketball, so I think they can reinforce one another.
But the last 4 years of basketball have been REALLY bad (really the last 17 years have had only a few bright spots) so I…[Read more]

krindor replied to the topic Was this the most important season in Utah football history? in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
I lean 2008 as the most important. Not to downplay 2004 at all (first BCS buster and a BCS bowl win is huge), but it was just a matter of who would be first. There’d been lots of one-off teams doing nearly as well and the national consensus was that someone was going to get there at some near point
1998 Tulane was #10
1999 Marshall was #12
2003…[Read more] -

Iowa (like Utah to large extent) benefits from always being at least pretty good. On the other side you’ve got teams like Auburn or Florida St who have hit higher highs…. but also have some pretty ugly depths.

So we’ve seen how Utah is doing in recruiting, on the field and on TV. But what does that all add up to in terms of value. If we’re talking value (and/or conference realignment), those are two important factors – as well as market size
So here’s an image of possible expansion candidates (every ACC, Big 12, PAC school and a few G5s), considering…[Read more] -

OK, so Utah has been very good on the field over the last decade… maybe even better than you thought. But how about drawing a TV audience? What sort of viewership has the team drawn
Truth be told, Utah’s not been at quite the same level there (as compared to on-field performance), so we really need fans to step up. It’s not been bad either,…[Read more] - Load More
