ParticipantNot sure how to link it here but per his Instagram account via Story, he announced he has officially medically retired from football due to his hand injury sustained vs. Baylor.

ParticipantCane here to post this. I’ll add a source from Pete Thamel

Former Utah QB Cameron Rising announces he’s retiring from football. He said he’s been advised by doctors to not return to football. “I will unfortunately be forced to medically retire from the game I love.”-

ParticipantThat really sucks for him. He will always have two PAC12 championships.

ParticipantHere’s another link about it.
After reading it, my brain had an emotional 2 word response for Baylor that stats with F
Again, just the initial emotional response from the sad way it all ended on that play, in what should have been a celebrated career at Utah.

ParticipantHats off to Cam Rising- Sure, we will always wonder what could’ve been, but just step back and reflect on what he did. Two Pac 12 Championships. Two rose bowl games. Thanks Cam. Best of luck on your future.

KeymasterHat’s off to Cam. Legendary Ute. Mind boggling that our coaching staff thought he was a game time decision and it was actually a career ending injury.

ParticipantMy thoughts exactly. I mean, was the initial diagnosis really that far off? Whit was repeatedly saying Cam was game-time decision and “could have played” in multiple games almost immediately after the injury. So, again, we are left wondering whether: (a) the initial diagnosis was way wrong, (b) everyone knew it was really bad, and Whit was playing games for supposed strategic purposes, (c) Cam and doctor knew it was bad (but not Whit), and Cam wanted to play so badly that he refused to accept the diagnoses.
Could be other possibilities, but those seem to be the leading contenders. None of them make me happy.
Regardless, Cam will go down in Utah lore and history as one of the most successful QBs due to the two Rose Bowls (not in my wildest dreams as a kid would I ever have thought Utah would play in a Rose Bowl). Hope Cam is able to find great success in future endeavors.

ParticipantThere were pics of Cam’s hand posted on social media the week of ASU game. Swollen, not healed.
We saw the lack of velocity on Cam’s throws in ASU game.
We saw Cam’s leg get injured early in ASU game (torn MCL later diagnosed) and hobble the rest of game.
Whitt saw all of this just like we did.

ParticipantI guess good he thanked Ludwig for what he taught him, but that’s the only person named. Interesting. Some weird silence until this point, but maybe because he was getting other opinions on the hand. Must of jacked it up good or it healed weird or had a lot of scar tissue.

Participantcoaching staff, especially the offense side has been mind boggling for the past two years, also very very frustrating!
soooooooooo glad Ludwig is out, if offense sucks this year Whitt must go.

ParticipantWe need to understand that coaches at every level very much lean into hope when it comes to a star player like Cam. When you have a player like this you naturally chase every possibility for the return, listen to every possibility that the return can happen, and get caught up in hope. We just had a front row seat noting the difference between Cam and other options and yes, it is difficult to recruit a backup when there is not a timetable for his leaving. For Cam, the same thing exists, star players will also lean into hope that he can return and build on his successes. I don’t like what happened but I can understand how hope got in the way and was hard to move on from.
Myself, I prefer to remember everything Cam and Lud gave us realizing that without them together our time in the Pac may have passed without a championship. My regret was it all could not be replicated more than twice. Now looking forward to the next time lightning is caught in a bottle.

ParticipantThanks Cam for some amazing memories.
Screw the BYU fans dunking on him right now.

KeymasterI haven’t been anywhere that I could see said dunking, by design. But anyone that is, is a dick.

ParticipantStill annoys me that it wasn’t a ‘football play’ but rather an unnecessary deliberate attempt to put him out of the game.

Newbury Park football brings on Cam Rising as offensive coordinator

ParticipantNewbury Park went 14-1 overall last season, and was the undefeated Conejo Coast League Champion, before winning the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Championship.
He is coaching four-star QB, Brady Smigiel, head Coach’s son, .
Looks like Bad Moon is setting himself up for success once again!

ParticipantA healthy Cam was the most fun I think I’ve ever had as a Utah fan. It’s sappy to bring a lot of emotions to a post about a guy who you’ve never met and doesn’t know you exist, but DAMN did he absolutely leave it all on the field.

ParticipantHard to think of a Utah Utes athlete that had such a big impact on the outcome of games and seasons. I will always remember the PAC12 championships, that I was really not expecting in my lifetime, after being a fan since the 1960’s.
Thanks Cam for your great play and contribution to Ute football!
