    Brettski,

You’re way too far over your skis, Man! I’ve covered this before. I have 5 GENERATIONS of UTE blood in my veins. And proud of it! Bet that’s 3 to 4 times at least more than you! But that’s not the point here.

I ask the hypothetical question to try to get some of you non-thinkers to consider where the program is headed. You may…[Read more]

  • Could argue looking at KW’s 14 year record in the P12/B12 era, 21-22 seasons are somewhat of an anomaly. KW’s overall P12/B12 conference record is 63-54 (minus Covid). Utah’s 21-22 conference record is 15-3. Outside of the 21-22 seasons, Utah averages 4.6 conference, median 4 conference losses per season. Utah is 5-5 in bowl games with no bowl win…[Read more]

  • Utah is not a top 3/5 program.

What I was trying to say is that out of all the jobs available, Utah is a top 3, top 5 job. We would have a ton of coaches to choose from.

Hell, Kalen DeBoer may be available. I’d take him over Scalley. Hell, I’d take him over Whitt. DeBoer can make the playoffs.

There will be a lot of good coaches available in…[Read more]

and none of that goes against anyting the OP said. All of what you said can be 100% true, and Whitt could be (probably is) the greatest coach the UofU football team has ever had.

You also have to account for the fact that he was a big part of Urban Meyer’s and McBride’s success. Whitt has been here a VERY long time. Regardless of whether he is a…[Read more]

Whitt is our best long term coach and deserves a statue.
Urban was our best 2 year coach

We aren’t Michigan but we beat them. So I am not complaining about our run of the last 20 years.

I do think we may need to evolve soon.

  • I’d like to give Whitt the opportunity to demonstrate that this year was an aberration. If he cannot get bowl eligible next year, then this year was not an aberration.

  • Aloha, I truly respect your loyalty to Coach Whitt. My biggest issue with Whitt is that we had 6 games where we led or were within striking distance late into the 4th quarter. We lost ALL of these games. This is not acceptable in my book. This shows me that Whitt has lost this team and his ability to win games.

Does he deserve to stay, based…[Read more]

  • Absolutely has to be trolling. No one in their right mind says He deserves another 4 or 5 at minimum if he wants it to turn it around.

  • The next step is what it has always been, what it is in any conference. We need to win consistently here before we have anything to say, before we have an opinion that can be taken seriously. Conference realignment was a reset, what once was is of little consequence. I guess you could call it unburdened by what has been. Goodness that sounds dumb.

Whitt’s best year was his fourth year. Every year after that, he has had major coaching issues that have screwed over Utah.

2008: Almost lost to New Mexico. Should have lost to TCU.
2011: Can’t beat Colorado to go to the PAC-12 title game.
2019: Got blown out by Oregon when a win puts him in the playoffs.
2021: Went with Brewer over Rising.…[Read more]

  • The old school coaches Whitt Gundy Ferentz have been trending in the wrong direction. They’re two generations removed from the incoming players. Young players want younger coaches that can relate. Lansing Smart Riley have the pulse of the new generation of athletes. They have big NIL backing them and have more innovative visions.

    BYU gets a y…[Read more]

  • Pretty sure staying in a Pac-12 WITH USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington was not an option.

Pac-12 without those four teams and Big-12 without OU and Texas were the only two options.

Based on that, it was a lateral move, though current B12 fans might argue that the Big-12 without OU and Texas is better than whatever a remnant Pac-12 would have been…[Read more]

  • The citizenship requirements are the biggest hurdle keeping most players from going to the CFL

  • A HS coaches best chance is to catch on as a coordinator. The example I know about is Art Briles who was running a new offense and trucking people in Texas. He got hired on as Houston’s OC, then moved to HC before taking the Baylor job.

I’m sure there are more but the only high school HC going straight to top level college HC I remember was…[Read more]

My unpopular opinion is that Whitt while good, has difficulty adjusting and that is where is faults come up. This game is all about ajduting. Either you do our you lose.

  • All true things for me.

    1. We would look terrible in ANY conference this year with what has happened.
    2. I don’t like the B12 and it wasn’t my desired destination
    3. The places I’d rather be either disappeared or didn’t want us
    4. College FB is imploding due to $$, Realignment games, NIL, and transfers so it probably won’t matter in 5 years.

  • We’ll just have to agree to disagree. I do not believe previous success should let this season be overlooked. 2012 & 2013 I could forgive because he needed a fair shot to get PAC level recruits & money, we saw what happened when he got that. This year and last he doesn’t have those crutches.

As I said I’ll admit he possibly could turn it around,…[Read more]

  • After some time thinking, I thought a way to vent is to use X96’s things that must go format for here and for Ute Football. Here is my list.

Prevent Defense – I hate this so much, & it doesn’t work.
Whitt ball – Please stop taking the gas off the offense.
Offensive play calls in general – For the love, I don’t need flashy plays every down, but…[Read more]
