Lots of lower ranked players but the two WRs are the highest ranked of the bunch. Neither was offered by Utah prior. Could help someone with depth.

Cards before a terminal with a line editor was something by itself since few had keyboard skills. Making changes to cards quickly that did not have printed characters was an acquired skill.

Charlie replied to the topic Coach Whit interview on ESPN 700 in the forum Football 2 years, 2 months ago
The odd part of that is we ended the season expecting Rising to go to the NFL. I would have expected the QB room to roll in a starting QB with a bit more ease. Nate’s spring injury impacted that but for now it becomes big that we get Cam back onto the field. Summer workouts and fall camp might change that but more work needs to be done to get…[Read more]

My first work computer was a GE605. It had 100K of internal memory in an 8 foot diameter rotating drum with visible memory tiles. My first home computer was an IMSI 8080 with 56K of internal memory. Seems small but remember that is OS, programs and data in that space. I shared this with my brother who wrote a complete suite of financial software…[Read more]

Oh yes, the classics, Science Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Business. In the very early years computer science was in the Math dept. An awesome lady, Grace Hopper, finally got her idea of an English based compiler reliable and now the ability to code approaches the ability to read and write in the 17th century.

Charlie replied to the topic R/W spring game in the forum Football 2 years, 2 months ago
The game is pointless if you only want to see a finished product a dozen times a year. Scrimmages and practice is only interesting if you want to see how a team grows and develops. It is like food, you may not have any interest in how it is made, just have a moment to eat it. Which may be wise if you want to stop into a Chinese restaurant. There…[Read more]

That is a minority fan perspective. If you have been involved in coaching even at the middle school and high school level, you would know the players live for games. However, preseason and spring there are no games so they live for live scrimmages just the same. The play is much closer to games than drills and practice. Just watch kids when you…[Read more]

Sorry, I was not thinking about GDP, I was trying to view the economy from the standpoint of a media company like ESPN. Having never worked for a media company, I was guessing that the economy was important to them as they sign up for significant long term obligation to pay our conference and I think they are most focused on the stock market as it…[Read more]

Hard to say the economy is fine. The last two quarters have been simply clawing back losses, the 2 year is still slightly negative so we are still looking for net progress with the new plan. If you are in NASDAQ you are defiantly sucking canal water. But more importantly, there are more forecast for poor performance than there is for positive…[Read more]

Honestly, I would never have guessed that such a high percentage of hillbillies would have also been college football fans. I expect that Utah’s experience was better than most because Florida beat us.

The BB team has a new local guy coming in. I am still waiting for a high profile guy with a lot of options. A bit of a mystery who the targets are. Could there be a foreign player in the mix?

You made me laugh as I remember the two paths on the west side thru trees and bushes which turned into open air urinals at halftime (not me of course) and the dozen hot dogs (actually always 13) for $10. We grab a bag of dogs and a handful of each condiment and speed back to our seats where we already had a cooler of beer and sodas we carried in.

Charlie replied to the topic Warner Brothers Targeting Sports Content in the forum Pac-12 2 years, 2 months ago
You may be right. Will streaming be like cable and ESPN in the late 70s, early 80s? There was bitching and moaning about games that were not on the channels you get with a roof antenna and required a subscription. Over time sports fans did subscribe to services they complained about and were willing to hunt through channels beyond the 4 they knew.…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Mikey Matthews compared to Covey…. in the forum Football 2 years, 2 months ago
In the Salt Lake media there always seems to be elements of jest best explained as a view from 40 miles south with bits of sarcasm. What we do know is Matthews is on the short side like Covey and has had a good start. We will see if he becomes a reliable possession receiver, makes the defense pay great attention, and becomes a return man that…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic TT jailed on domestic violence charges. in the forum Football 2 years, 2 months ago
I was thinking attacking Barnard is what got Thomas tossed. Whitt reacted to that, I disagree that he allowed that. I was focused on events prior to what got him tossed. As for the threat to the woman, that is after he has been tossed. Before these two events I thought he arrived to his last chance not so much because of an event but due to a…[Read more]

Not sure I agree. Following your guess I will give you mine since I was not involved in the case. I do know Whitt gives these thing a lot of thought and he has a good record of helping several turn their life around. The process lays out specifics and involves a single second chance. It is not possible to be 100% successful. I have heard that…[Read more]

Another way of looking at it, not saying it is right, Utah went above and beyond to help him. He just needed to help himself as well.

True, when I went to school students waited in line to get in and that took serious time for big games. And that was long before the Majerus years when it only got worse. Then a seat below the concourse was rarely ever available and more than half of the upper bowl was season tickets. Too many entertainment options available today make that hard…[Read more]

Thanks again for sharing. Hopefully we keep who feels like RB3 and RB4 because Curry is gone next year and possibly Bernard will test the NFL. With this years schedule spreading the load around might not only be a good idea but a necessity. We so much need a QB2 to step up but with Johnson hampered that might not get determined until August which…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Bartle's thoughts on Saturday's scrimmage in the forum Football 2 years, 2 months ago
Also 2 seasons ago was the best reception I have ever seen by a Utah RB in the first RB. Considering who defenses put on RBs Bernard gives us the opportunity to create massive mismatches. Ludwig hunts these opportunities so I expect to see Bernard hopefully running a route with a LBer.
