I don’t know how much the angst has to do with Monson’s article in the trib. Sadly, local sports writers are not like football players. With the writers, it seems an awful one last for decades even though you are sure new replacements are available that could do a much better job. Monson is simply bad but survives in a niche where he placates…[Read more]

Lets hope JT heals up. Also of note, Daniels replaced Bam at tackle. Kaufusi will start on the DL. Marks along with Phillips give us short CBs, hopefully others will not be able to make us open to high point passes. Redding is still the PK, hopefully he just had a bad day. Phillips in kickoff return.

  • I am wondering about which is first the chicken or the egg. Jay Hill seamed to pick up on either Brewers struggle to handle pressure or the OL’s ability to pickup pressure. Either way, he chose pressure and lots. It did not help that Utah TEs and RB was often released rather than used to pick up the blitz.

Next, the Y and SDSU continued to use…[Read more]

  • I am going to guess his issue is consistency. I can also understand how the coaches get hopeful. When Bam targets a defender, he seems to move them out of the play. However, he may also neglect a defender that blows up a play. Possibly the hope has been if they can get him targeted correctly almost all the time they could benefit from his…[Read more]

  • Utah has not had much luck at all playing against QB2 if the game play anticipates the other QB.  The SDSU QB1 that started against Az had 8 rushes for 7 yards.  We got to play against QB2 who had 8 rushes for 87.  So there we go, more experience playing a running QB.  How much of our prep may was for QB2?
    Other notes,
Bam is hot and cold, can…[Read more]

No reason to wait for an actual road game to ask a dumb question.

  • It was like the world was upside down. On my way out of the stadium I thought I saw a shirtless Charlton Heston being chased down the street by an ape on a horse. That kind of night.

  • The team needs to take a breath and focus on one more pre season game to get right. Forget about the rankings, forget about the loss. Following the game with SDSU that needs to be a reset, our single focus should be winning the South. Win one game at a time and climb to the top of our division which is the only door out of where we are now.…[Read more]

Our OL is not great, however, you can see much more if you go back and look play by play. Next, when one thing goes wrong or is unaddressed, other aspects follow as problems because the flow of operations breaks down.

Of note to me, Weber and the Y both used LBs very aggressively to create run blitz and pass rush. Weber, in particular, had…[Read more]

I know we have been hard on the OL on the 4th and 2 in the second quarter.  I got a chance to rewatch that play and noted that it was poor play design.  Trips on the left were just off the tackle.  No WR on the right.  On the snap the closest Y DB saw the handoff and was able to break around the LT’s back.  On the right side the CB was up on the…[Read more]

  • Charlie replied to the topic Zack Moss today? in the forum NFL 3 years, 11 months ago

I understand he or someone else were in line at RB and the coach dressed the other guy because he was faster. I was thinking Moss was a solid RB2. Let’s hope he is back next week.

  • Either, on the way in I told my boy, set the edge and keep Hall in the pocket and the Y will not get the extra time they need for their pass game to work. Same for the RB. Outside in and a spy would frustrate them.

  • Do you think if Lloyd was assigned to only spy Hall on 60% – 70% of the plays, could the rest of the defense stop the rest of the Y?

Can Brewer change the play, does he have a way to do so in a loud environment, does he get the play in time to make a change?

Are we ready to attack a loaded box?

Dreams of sugar plumbs should be gone, can we get…[Read more]

  • When you loose the LOS, offensive or defense, there are things you do to counter that. Offense goes quick to the edge, screen passes, roll out the QB and make the DL run. The defense rolls up LBs, run blitz, come off the edge. That is all considering you are loosing the man to man engagements. The remedies get easier when loosing the LOS is…[Read more]

  • The other sound we heard last night was a door opening. Stanford beat USC well enough to open things up in the south. UCLA and Colo have had games that make them look like contenders. ASU may or my not be. It looks like the possibility of a scramble. Can Utah take advantage? Can we fix the problems from last night and jump into the mix?…[Read more]

  • I may be able to break it down. After being slow to react to overloading the box, Utah makes some adjustment, the defense flips to the opposite and again we do not adjust quickly. We were chasing them and not catching up quickly, we were doing little to dictate a change from them. In a game that required adjustments, Utah was having a hard time…[Read more]

  • Some of the problem was a lack of reaction from Utah. As an example, when the other team is giving you a 5 man line and then mixing in involvement of LBs, the New England Patriots would not simply continue on with their scripted plays. They would quickly adjust to some plays that take advantage of that defensive position. Likely, Utah was not…[Read more]

It was a tough game to watch and then the rain as well made for an uncomfortable night.  After watching the Y play Az. I thought we had some basic points to plan around.  Az. is not a good team but exposed the Y’s secondary and stayed in the game.  Utah did little to attack that secondary.  Also in the game, Hall breaking the pocket to run around…[Read more]

    1 Don’t know
    2 Tom Barbari, Kall 910
    3 Yergensen
    4 54 – 10 is the biggest I remember
5 Scott Mitchell from Springville and on to Miami and Detroit.

  • I am wondering if this practice came from a specific event. I get that we can be struck and it is a possibility. I am simply trying to understand the incremental difference in risk with people headed to cars etc. like at the HS game tonight. No doubt fishermen come in off the lake when they see lightning. So without challenging the practice, I…[Read more]
