That is… a pleasant surprise! Smith is an easy guy to cheer for.

Watching the game the other night the commentator said something along the lines of, “it’s nice to see Brandon Carlson get in there and block some shots, since he doesn’t really do that very often.”
WTF dude? he’s average like 2.5 blocks a game this year, and has had nearly 10 blocks in a game at least once.
Back to studying for me! -

and the power of the culture that Whitt has established hit me pretty hard. The two guys sitting there as two time conference champs were cast offs at a much more “blue blood” program that has had an awful culture for years.
These two guys, cast offs of one disgustingly wealthy blue blood absolutely brutalized another disgustingly wealthy blue…[Read more] -

Every last one of their big plays was on a broken play (missed sack, someone falling down ehem… GETTING PUSHED DOWN… ehem, in the secondary).

I never thought it was part of the game plan to ease up on him after he got hurt, but I felt like they noticed he was hurt, and made an effort to not destroy him as a result.
It is also possible that they were just weary of coming too hard and either getting faked out, or getting a penalty.
Like I said, observations.

was that the first half? Like I said, I just watched the quick version, so it was harder to keep track.

chinngiskhaan replied to the topic Four games Redshirt allotment in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
Why does redshirt even matter? If he is good enough to play, he’ll play. In the long term, if he’s good enough that we care about keeping him for one more year, he’d probably leave early anyway. If he’s bad enough that he needs an extra year to develop, he won’t be our starting QB.
Either way it doesn’t matter.

Also, I forgot to mention some standout performers:
Vaki was huge in the second half.
Bernard and JJ were both OUTSTANDING. Bernards fumble was pretty flukey. nobody was holding onto that ball. They both ran hard all game long.
Money Parks stepped up BIG TIME! Great to see a WR step up and make some great plays. He’s going to be a big part of…[Read more]

I watched a 15 minute version of the game after not being able to watch live. This version was all of the important plays in this game. Here is what stuck out to me:
1. From the way our start was being described on the chat, I assumed Utah came out flat. What I saw in the first quarter was a team that was playing with urgency on both sides of the…[Read more]

chinngiskhaan replied to the topic Enjoy Watching Clark Phillips Play Tomorrow. in the forum Football 2 years, 7 months ago
Yeah, we’ve had a lot of corners disappear in games over the years… in the best possible way.
I remember wishing Weddle would move back to safety just so I could hear his name called more often… Then there were several others after him, most notably JJ, and now Phillips.
I’m honestly surprised we haven’t had more big time Corner recruits…[Read more]

All players in D1 have some skill or physical attribute that is elite or close to it… but we don’t have anyone that can get a bucket regardless of who is guarding them, not even close really.
Jakob Poeltl could physically dominate most other bigs inside, and had great touch around the basket. Delon could drive and get a layup against most…[Read more]

Carlson looks like he’s finally putting on weight. Good to see some muscle on that kid. Could still use another 15 lbs, but looking much much better physically.

OnlyU is not Whitt.
Not exactly anyway, he’s actually just a part of Whitt… His calves to be exact. Allows him (them?) to get a good bit of inside info, but calves don’t have the greatest hearing, and eeeevery so often get things a bit wrong as a result.

Tons of guys played better than usual. Worster nearly had a triple double. That’s impressive in College ball especially.
Carlson and Madsen both shot well. Keita had 7 pts and 11 boards.
Whoever said Ben Carlson is like Riley Battin (someone posted it a week or two ago) is a fool. Dude dunked over somebody. Riley Battin is a worse athlete than…[Read more]
