2008 National Champ replied to the topic Bowl Game Perspective in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
I don’t accept as fact that the 2023 Utah offense was the best version anyone could have expected. I also don’t accept as fact that the only person capable of leading the Utah offense to that perceived best possible result was Andy Ludwig, thus he should be rewarded financially.
At some point if feels like if Ludwig got drunk and drove his car…[Read more]

Top 5 coordinator in pay managed a top 100 offense (barely) with players that had been recruited for his offense over the last 5 years he has been running the offense and that he is responsible for making sure can run his offense at it’s peak performance.
I’d venture a guess that a lot of people who commanded a lot less money could not have done…[Read more]

was Reynolds a missionary? I assumed he had transferred along with the rest of that highly touted 2021 LB class

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Transfer Portal Question in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
you have to be enrolled to participate. The question becomes what the school’s requirements are. If the school is on semesters and allows mid-semester enrollment, that would allow a kid to participate. If they are on quarters, you could be enrolled after spring break.
How that fits with the timing of spring ball is anyone’s guess.

SMU will be in the Atlantic Coast next year, not the American Athletic. He will play against the same P5 caliber defenses that he did in the PAC

Help me with “Rising’s development”.
If we are talking one read and take off, that doesn’t really fit with development.
If we see the same guy in 2024 as 2021/22, making the same plays but also not making the same plays, did he really develop?
Rising has proven the ability to run Ludwig’s 1990’s vintage offense at a high level. From my…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Ludwig didn't call a great game, but this is 90% Barnes' fault in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
And the routes allowed the safety doubling the seam pattern to easily leave his receiver and undercut Parks on the post. Meanwhile, a deep flag route would have resulted in single coverage with presumably Parks having the same gap.
Perhaps Parks made a different read than Barnes was expecting which caused the late throw. More likely, based on…[Read more]

I’m curious. How bad does the offense have to perform for it to be on the guy who is responsible for the offense’s performance?
If we are to believe Whitt, the hierarchy for blame is: Head coach, Coordinators, Position Coaches, Players.

Putting a lot of eggs in that Wilson basket. I hope he’s the exception but recent history at Utah, the Pac-12 and across the nation says that he’s not going to be an immediate success. And if/when he does become a starter, it will be at a different school.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Rose in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
I tend to believe that Rose will not get a medical year. He’s been running the scout team for a couple of months and “been available in an emergency” for close to the same. That has been not only public knowledge but Whitt has specifically said it in multiple interviews. So he falls into the DNP-coaches decision category instead of season…[Read more]

“This” has been coming since fall camp. It wasn’t a one game anomaly. Not wanting to believe what you are seeing is not the same as it not being there.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic What does all-in or in the way mean? in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
So get rid of a coach who’s unit is performing up to standard so that you can force another assistant to help the coach(s) who aren’t? That model is how successful businesses and programs fail.
Identify the problem, correct the problem. Letting it continue unabated while reallocating resources is going to cost more in the long run than you…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Ludwig didn't call a great game, but this is 90% Barnes' fault in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
It’s easy to blame Barnes and he should be accountable for his part. At the same time, did anyone ever really feel at any time this season like the offense had figured out what it did well and leaned into it?
All I saw for 13 games was the same plays that had been run for the last 4+ years but with personnel incapable of running them competently…[Read more]

not even past the bowl game and people are already projecting out the best possible outcomes for 2024. didn’t anyone learn from 2023 that there are going to be obstacles and sometimes, the team just won’t be able to overcome them?

2008 National Champ replied to the topic FSU suing the ACC. More dominoes for the super blue bloods in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
The problem with the super conference idea is that a lot of schools that think they should be in the club are either going to get left out or traditional relationships are going to make it too bloated to ever be effective.
The pro model is based on having teams in the largest metropolitan areas to maximize local revenue. The college model is…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Big 12 wrap up video in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
I’d have to agree. The Pac-10 didn’t really want Utah and that changed over time. I don’t doubt that Utah will be a respected member of the Big-12 and sooner rather than later.
Change is tough on everyone. Just give it time to work itself out.
