PlainsUte replied to the topic Somebody tell me something, anything, about Weber State in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago
Thanks all for the replies, we need to have more opponent previews instead of just speculating which Utes will be coming off injury.
Their RB, Damon Bankston, does look stout and they seem to be run-first on ohfense, so it will be strength vs strength going up against the Utes’ run defense. From the sounds of their secondary, maybe the Utes can…[Read more]

What should I be expecting when they take the field?

On TV crowd seemed like a non-factor. I did hear, “You can’t do that” chant, after some penalty on Utah. Yeah, high school.

PlainsUte started the topic LB Levani Damuni in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
Levani Damuni, we don’t talk about him at all. Lead the Utes with 9 tackles today, 7 solo, and had 8 versus Florida, though most were “assists”.
Barton seems to get the big snot-knocker hits, Bishop leads in tackles-for-loss, 2 vs Baylor, 1 vs Florida.
Utes had Zero sacks vs Baylor, that was a surprise. -
PlainsUte replied to the topic We got away with a PI there at the end in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
I don’t think so, particularly with the way the game was called all the way. They seemed to be a bit ticky-tack on OL holding but on DBs they were letting a lot a handsy play slide. The Utah DBs were going up for the ball.

I really have to switch careers so I’m going to Vegas for major meetings rather than places like Baltimore in January.

Baylor’s QB (who’s also QB2, by the way) can’t throw very well if he’s lying on his back. Just saying. Sacko-Wacko City!

PlainsUte replied to the topic Future Big 12 Top Teams in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
Oklahoma State has been a perennial early season contender in the Big-12 but then they find a way to fade in the back half of the season so end up with some mediocre bowl game. With a lot of stability in the coaching positions they can build and develop players but the top players in the region have tended to opt for Texas or Oklahoma, so depth…[Read more]

Should use people like Money Parks for end-arounds.

PlainsUte replied to the topic How will the extreme heat affect the Utes? in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
That’s true if its like a tropical downpour and it gets steamy afterward but this is a weak front in Central Texas, there might not be a heck of a lot of actual rain reaching the ground and the air behind this boundary will be somewhat drier and somewhat cooler. Some of the higher resolution numerical weather prediction models only go out to 60…[Read more]

Yes the humidity is also fairly high, mid-60s dewpoint.
No one is talking about this, but there is a chance of thunderstorms near Waco sometime on Saturday afternoon, the wind is supposed to shift from south to northeast after the storms go through, temperatures drop from near 100 to the low 90s. The timing of this is hard to say 3 days out, so…[Read more]

PlainsUte replied to the topic Offensive points per game – Rising vs. Barnes in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
I don’t think people are “bagging” on Barnes, just trying to quantify, what, if any, drop off is seen from QB1 to QB2. If there’s no dropoff then you could call them QB1a QB1b. But I don’t think you’ll see disagreement that if both are 100% healthy Rising is going to get the call.

I think the original Big-12 sites are great sites for college football. Small towns, sure, but the population doubles in each on Saturdays in the fall, and there are few commuter students so they’re tailgating and attending games because that’s all there is to do on game day. The stadiums, even in Manhatten, KS, are nearly the same capacity as…[Read more]

PlainsUte replied to the topic Offensive points per game – Rising vs. Barnes in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
What seems to hurt Barnes is his forte’ is passing to WRs (first play of Fla game), while Ludwig tends to settle into a run-first or dink-and-dunk pass to TE or RB game, especially once the Utes have a lead. Also vs Fla the ohfense didn’t get much run support from the OL — NJ had to break some tackles and juke some players in the open field to…[Read more]

PlainsUte replied to the topic QB in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
I thought Ludwig and Whitt did well with what they had Thursday. Big game against a tough opponent and they got it done. The difference if it were me at the helm (hah!) I would have pulled Nate after the second fumbled snap. Can’t mess with ball security and it made for a 2nd-and-long to be a 3rd-and-long that are tough to convert with Nate…[Read more]

PlainsUte replied to the topic Shade at Baylor McLane Stadium in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
The sun is going to be nearly overhead from the due south for most of the game (solar noon is 1 pm CDT). The stadium is oriented a bit toward NW-SE rather than straight N-S, so sections on the SW side (100-108) should see some shade, at least in the 2nd half. There is an awning on the upper deck, so some shade directly under that.

PlainsUte started the topic Dave Aranda Press Conferences …. in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
Today’s press conference below. As reported earlier their starting QB Blake Shapen is out with an MCL, Sawyer Robinson (Redshirt Soph, Mississippi State transfer) will be starting versus Utah. Also out for Utah are Garmon Randolph (Senior OLB) and Devin Lemear (Soph Safety). Aranda kind of admitted the OL could not consistently protect the QB…[Read more]

If your family watches Chip and Joanna Gaines, they have their Magnolia Cafe and a very crowded site/store downtown.
There is a Dr Pepper museum and one for the Texas Rangers (the law enforcement unit, not baseball team).
If you’re into cults, there’s the David Koresh compound 😉 Bottom line is D/FW area has a lot more to do if you’re making a…[Read more] -
PlainsUte replied to the topic What do we know about Baylor? in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago
They are going to have a more formidable run game than Florida. Two great running backs in Richard Reese and Dominic Richardson, a transfer from Oklahoma State. Their new Defensive Coordinator is from Oregon, Matt Powledge, so he’ll be familiar with the Utes’ offense. Like Florida, Baylor finished 2022 on a four game skid, including losing the…[Read more]
