  • BYU came to play and we did not.  It was obvious from the beginning.  We were beaten in the trenches.  BYU came prepared with some new blitz packages.  We did nothing new or innovative.  We did not even learn during the game that Hall needed to be contained.
So, what does this all mean?  I am not sure.  I hope we are not as bad as BYU made us…[Read more]

    1. Who was the umbrella man?
    2. Which local celebrity would always predict – Utah by 5?
    3. Who kicked the FG in Utah’s first win (34-31) in 20 years in Provo?
    4. What was Utah’s largest margin of victory over the cougs?
    5. Who was Utah’s QB in the 1978 upset win over the cougs?

  • Our game tomorrow will be delayed.  Utah State has already been delayed tonight.  I hate these delays.  These never happened 20-30 years ago.  I guess it’s the safe thing to do, but I still hate them.  They are very disruptive to the continuity of the game.

  • BYU has only beat Utah 9 times when Lavell was not on the BYU sideline as a coach.
    Crazy.
    Go Utes!!!

  • That Brewer is the first really good QB we have had in years.  This was said on the radio today and many other times in the last week.  Even people on here have posted similar things.  My response is, “What about Huntley?”  He had an amazing season just two years ago.  In my book, he is the third-best QB in Utah football history.  Was Bently so…[Read more]

I was out running some errands this morning and I heard Hans talk about our offensive line.  He said they played sloppily.
The good news is that we were not being overpowered.  So, our mistakes are fixable and I bet they are getting a lot of film time this week.
The video links below outline some of those mistakes.

  • After 9 straight losses – they have nothing to lose.  They will do everything and anything in an attempt to win.  I remember in 1994 when we were undefeated and playing UNM.  They had nothing to lose.  They would go for it on 4th down in their own territory.  Unfortunately, they had some success and won the game.
Things were similar for us in…[Read more]

  • Those of you who watched the BYU game Saturday night saw how the small, quick transfer from Northwestern did against BYU’s defense.  They would get him the ball in space and he did the rest.  I suspect Utah will do the same with Covey.  We did not really go deep against Weber, but if the opportunity is there this Saturday, I suspect we will go to…[Read more]

    – Brewer looked good
    – Tavion stood out among the RB’s – the fumble was his biggest issue
    – Dropped balls need to be fixed
    – Jaron Hall is a good QB
    – Every position group needs improvement
    – Lloyd was amazing – Sewell was good but not as good as he has been
    – BYU’s offensive style is about the same as it has been
    – Didn’t know why BYU did…[Read more]

  • I guess the AP poll will not come out until the game has been played tonight.  But, below is a predicted top 25.
UCLA moves all the way to the top-ten.  I am happy if that’s true.  There are 5 ranked Pac12 teams including Utah at 21.  4 of the 5 are from the south. No surprise there since only 1 north team won over the…[Read more]

    From KW:
“We’ve got to have a great week of practice because right now, based on (Thursday) we’re not good enough, so we’ve got to get better,”
I agree with the coach.  We did not look like a top-25 team IMO.  Too many mistakes.  As I posted earlier, I believe that most of the problems are fixable; ie dropped passes, missed coverage, missed…[Read more]

  • The good news is that most of our opponents appear very beatable, especially WSU and Cal.  Oregon trailed late to a MWC team and USC entered the 4th quarter with a 6 point lead against a MWC team.  USC’s score is misleading.  They looked pedestrian at best.  I won’t even speak to SDSU and BYU.
The bad news is that the PAC12 SUCKS!  I hate to say…[Read more]

I just saw this.  Don’t they realize that there are other reasons why these kids come to Utah over BYU.

This just gets more delicious. Utah fans are waking up to the truth

Their recruiting advantage in Utah and for LDS kids is taking a major blow. On a bigger stage, as kids in the Big12 see what we offer we will get transfers. Imagine BYU…[Read more]

  • The one good thing that could happen if this is true IMO – is that we may never play these guys again in football.  I’m good with that.  Note that UT and TAMU have not played in football since TAMU went to the SEC.

  • First of all, I believe we learned very little last night.
    My Positives:
Kincaid was a nice surprise.  Runs good routes and has great hands.
    Lloyd played as expected.
Tavion ran for 9 yards a carry and had two TDs.  I believe he will be RB1.
    Very happy for Enis.
    Goal-line stand.
    Brewer looked good/not great
    My disappoinbtments

  • ProudUte started the topic Great day in the forum Football 3 years, 11 months ago

I am a football fan more than any sport by a long shot.  I love Utah football and suffered through two 1-10 seasons in the 70s, but still loved it.  We start yet another season, it will be in the low 80s and I will get a round of golf in before the game.  It’s hard to beat that!!!

  • Sounds like everyone will get playing time on Thursday.
    Who will start at RB?

  • 1960s – Roy Jefferson and Norm Thompson
1970s – Steve Odom and Steve Marshall
1980s – Steve Clark and Scott Mitchell
1990s – Luther Ellis and Jamal Anderson
2000s – Alex Smith and Eric Weddle
2010s – Chase Hansen and Tyler Huntley
2020s – Ty Jordan and Devin Lloyd
    Overall has to be Weddle!!!

  • So, in less than 48 hours we will be playing our in-state rival, Weber State.  I watched Weber a lot this spring because they were the only game in town.  My thoughts:
Their offense started out okay but they struggled to put points on the board late in the season.  They have a good RB, but he will be running into our strength.  I didn’t see much…[Read more]
