Yergensen replied to the topic Ja’Quinden Jackson could become prototypical Strong Safety in the forum Football 3 years, 6 months ago
True. Examples are Taysom, Antonio Gibson, Lynn Bowden. To your point they all had a primary position in college except Bowden played receiver and filled in as QB due to injuries. None of them filled the role in college that Taysom does with the Saints.
I realize I’m just an armchair QB spitballing solutions that probably don’t have any mer…[Read more]

Totally agree with you we want to keep his talent first and foremost, but obviously he’ll need to embrace a switch to defense. It has to be hard for a guy who throws and runs for 30-40 tds a year in HS to switch and you really can’t argue with that. As said before I want to see if he can first do some variation of this for us.
I do think he cou…[Read more]

Yeah, 2 carries and 2 fumbles. That did happen. We should give up on him like we did TT.

Could be play safety well, I think so. I’d rather him score touchdowns, that’s his gift. Offensive playmakers are generally a bigger need for us. Coaches need to figure out how to get him on the field and get him touches.

I hope the rumors aren’t true, but he can’t be happy running a couple wildcat plays a year.

Yergensen replied to the topic Anyone know why it was Barnes rather than JQJ? in the forum Football 3 years, 6 months ago
We weren’t playing from behind when Cam went out. I don’t think it had to do with better passer. I read something more into it (possible transfer?). In a post game interview with Bill Riley, Barnes basically said he was QB2 for PAC 12 championship.

Maybe my favorite of all time. Tonight’s game felt like 1998 NCAA bball final. We gave everything we had and in the end it wasn’t quite enough. Love this team and this program.

I think if we go back and watch Covey, BT and JD we would see them getting separation. JD was open virtually every route he ran this year, which amounted to 1 route/play per game. Why didn’t he play more?

Cole Bishop is a poster child for our prowess in evaluating db and safety talent. Georgia kid, a place we don’t recruit much, and not heavily recruited. Commits to Duke and if I recall correctly it was more for the education. We see him and mad push for him. He flips and I think one of the reasons he gave for flipping was he wanted to give p…[Read more]

Yergensen replied to the topic TJ Pledger has been underrated this season in the forum Football 3 years, 7 months ago
Are you valuing him as a role player or as Sony Michel to Nick Chubb? IMO – he’s a valuable role player. Had he filled the primary role this year, there would have been a drop off.

I hope their fans and team both show. I’d like to see how we measure up. It’s exciting to get to play a top 3 program. Their fans over on 11 warriors have been respectful, cool even. Harshest jab I’ve seen taken is about our “crappy uniforms.”

Hope it wasn’t implied that firing is part of the fix. Sharrief Shah is Utah football and a good coach.

Going into the 2019 season the o-line was highlighted as a weakness or at least was a question mark and it was exposed in our losses.
This year it’s special teams play in punting, kicking and coverage. It was at least a factor in 2 of our 3 losses. We missed a 37 yd FG in the San Diego St game and lost by 2. We had 2 punts blocked by Oregon…[Read more] -

We usually don’t know if our line is good enough for Oregon until we play them. This is because Oregon lines are on another level than the rest of our competition. USC might be the only comp, but I don’t think they’re comparable this year.
Wazzu coaches said their QB couldn’t get his feet set against Oregon. They’re disruptive and Khavon is…[Read more]

Key to the game. Both lines will need to be great.

Would be huge. I think highest rated prospect ever and a foundation for Coach Smith. Chandler might have been the MIP of last weekend’s recruits to visit.
Have to get my butt out to support basketball this season and beyond. Need to pull down the curtain in the HC.

Good stuff.
#2 – Jackson needs to be in every game. Wildcat, Taysom package, all of the above. We simply aren’t using our playmakers.
#3 – IMO WR rotation and personnel under Ludwig has always been a mystery, doesn’t make sense. JD is another playmaker. Get him the ball.
#5 – Can’t remember this many special teams gaffes in a season and we’re…[Read more]

I think the under recruited, over achiever is a blind spot for both Whit and Scalley. There have been a lot of success stories where they’ve developed these guys into NFL players. However, this can be done to a fault. Last night after Lloyd was ejected, we had 2 walk-ons and a 2-star making up the LB core and we looked slow. You can’t tell me…[Read more]
