To post a video in the new home page text editor or the regular forum area:
1. Copy the video URL from youtube
2. Paste it in the text field (make sure it is on it’s own line)
3. There is no step 3.
When the home page is reloaded the video should appear.
This is a test. 1234. DOES THIS WORK? This is attempt three of the new home page implementation.
I’ve spent several weeks working on installing and configuring a new text editor for the home page. The previous text editor was buggy and a couple of weeks ago I replaced it with a very limited, and simple one. That was fine, but people still had a hard time inserting media, links and so on. Also the new post or new reply dialog popped up in a window with a small area. So the goal was to make a bigger area to work with, and add easier and better functionality to the interface to make it easier for users to write posts.
What’s new?
1. New text editor for new posts and replies. The editor has some simple and useful controls for bold text, italic, color, block quote, links, images, movies, preview, and fullscreen. More instructions to be posted soon. The links, images, and movies embed should work MUCH better and more simply.
2. New posts and new replies no longer will be done in a popup window. The new editor area is bigger and has more room for composing posts and viewing them.
3. There are new animations and fun interactive aspects to the home page when opening and closing replies, starting new threads, or posting replies.
4. I’ve tweaked the layout very slightly to look better in mobile.

I will post some instructions soon. There should be a hover with some text to show what the icons do, but it isn’t there. Dammit. The eye is a preview. So if you are posting images, videos etc, you can get an idea what it will look like live.

This was an attempt to post a video, but it didn’t work, so now it is an attempt to edit, which is working fantastically.

Same thing. I clicked on the video link, the window popped up and I put in the address to a youtube video. I clicked the preview button and the video appeared. I think clicked the submit button and no more video.
At least we know the edit works. lol.
For youtube, click on the movie icon and paste the youtube URL in the first field:
There’s a textbox now for embed code. I tried that, it no worky.
This is using the embed, instead of just the url

Ok I think the video function is working. I removed the video icon from the editor because it isn’t needed. All you do is just paste in the URL of the video. That’s it. Here’s an attempt:
I had to open the thread to see the video from Milton. I could see the link from the homepage, but not watch the video until I opened the thread.
I may have to work on a setting for youtube videos to allow embeds and such. Looking into that, but may be tomorrow.

My wife and I decided that we are Cal fans for the rest of the year. IF Cal were to win out (not very likely), they would win the North. They would need help, but they would have two conference losses but would own tie breakers over Stanford, Washington and WSU. They would be above Stanford and Washington (because we are beating Washington next week) and would need WSU to lose one more game.
So, in other words, Go Cal!
If they can win out, our only loss would be to the North Champ. That wouldn’t be too bad. ha ha.
Cal is a fun team to watch play.

I’m usually glued to Pac-12 games, having a hard time returning to this one after the half. Oregon football is ugly.

I stopped watching after the half, flicked it back on just before I went to bed and it was the beginning of the 4th quarter and I think Oregon was ahead by 1, so I recorded the rest and watched it this morning.
Impossible game to watch unless it’s recorded. Practically every play ended with an injury or a penalty. This game had to be well over four hours. Cal Had 118 plays, wow.
The most difficult thing about watching this game was the constant reminder that we dropped a very winnable game against Cal.

Wow this is really crazy. I thought I was ready to deploy the new home page updates as a surprise this evening, which would be even more fun with “other” site not being even functional. I made the cutover and it all looked good. Then at the top of the post list was a spam post about viagra or some such thing. The INSTANT I cut over to the new version, spam bots had found a security hole. In another few seconds another viagra post appeared.
SO, I rolled it back again.
It looked like the new features were working, but somehow there’s a hole that allowed anonymous, non-members to post. And that also proved that the site is CONSTANTLY being attacked by bots just waiting for a hole to get into. That’s kind of scary actually.
So I now have to look through my code and find the problem in my new updates.
Bummed.
