    Topic: Superiority Complex

I’ve had an epiphany today that has finally allowed me to put into words something I’ve thought for a long time!

We Ute fans have a superiority complex!  Not to be  confused with an inferiority complex, which is when one goes about overcompensating for feelings of inferiority, we Ute fans go about overcompensating for feelings of superiority.  For instance!…. when some unaffiliated publication speculates that qb1 for the 2023 draft might be on our team, we have to call that out as BS for some odd reason!  It manifested itself in 2019 when we flirted with the playoff and fell one win short and half the board was like, “told ya so!”

I know why we do it!  Some times those doggone TDS fans get so out of hand with their nonsense(inferiority complex) that we feel we have to pull the entirely opposite way!

and that’s ok.  But I for one just fine saying we’ve got a top flight QB and a team that has serious CFP potential.

Just remember that you suffer form a Superioroty cComplex relax, take time to smell the roses(no pun intended, wait… yes pun intended!) and let the good times roll!

He needs to throw deep more consistently. I have my suspicions that since he will have had another off season to work out his surgically repaired shoulder, he may be better at going vertical.

Circulating on Ute twitter this morning. Sidelines Sports Network claims Cam Rising is being discussed as QB1 for next year’s draft. I am happy to see him getting some hype, but Cam over CJ Stroud and Bryce Young? I’ll believe it when I see it.

I think with a solid year 2 Cam can make some noise on draft boards, but even with my personal bias I don’t see him as being QB1.

The Utes wrapped up a Solid Class today, with the signing of Sidney Mbanasor. It could be a year +, before he’s really able to contribute. But, his physical skills are impressive.

The Utes also signed several, Solid Preferred Walk On’s, including :

Jett Maine, a very productive a WR from Corner Canyon. Luke Hyde, another productive WR from Lone Peak.

So much of recruiting is about building Relationships with players, their families, & Coaches at key schools. And Corner Canyon & Lone Peak are among the Best High School football programs in Utah.

Spencer Clegg is a LB from American Fork. I’m not sure, but I have to think he is related to Hunter Clegg, also from AF. And Hunter is one of the top 2023 recruits.

Helaman Ofahengaue is a LB from Lehi.  Tevita Ofahengaue played at BYU and was drafted in the NFL in 2001. Moana Ofahengaue was a LB at Utah, in 2013. Not sure if Helaman is related to Tevita and or Moana, but it’s very possible.

Lets Review what they have fir nxt year. These are key players, transfers, returners etc, new recruits etc.

    QB:

    1. Caleb Williams (no expereicene behind him, he gets hurt, they’re done.)

    RB.

    1. Ralek Brown (5 star)

    2. Travis Dye – Stud

    3. Austin Jones – stanford transfer –

Good Room – comparable with Ours as far as produciton/potential.

    WR:

    1. Brandon Rice (Co T), Mario Williams (Ok T), Gary bryant, Terrell Bynum (Wa T), Taj washington

impressive WR Room, although SC always has had good WR’s

    No TE’s they all left

    OL:

    first red flag

2 returners who were HM all pac, and transfer from VA – Other than that, very raw, very limited, no depth

How are they going to run ? pass pro etc.

Kicker – gone will need a new kicker

    Defense:

Korey Freeman was number 2 overall recruit in 2021 didnt do anything last year, Tui Tuipulutu (1st tm all PAc) and two transfers neither of which did much. One from TCU, another from KSU.

After that raw, not much depth…. line isnt very stong.

    LB:

    No experience.

2 transfers from Aub/Bama. neither of which played much. a 4 * FRESHMAN and a jr who has played a little.

    SS/CB:

1.Ok Transfer – hasnt played much

    2. Mekhi Blackmon ( good pick up was HM all pac from co ) we almost got him

    3. Domani jackson – 5* corner true freshman

    4. 3 4* 2021 Fr. Havent played at all, but talented

    S:

    1. chase williams – has played

    2. Zion branch – true freshman 4*

    3. Two other safeties who never played.

The point.  Compare this roster to what Utah has coming back. If you look at both rosters side by side SC clearly wins the beauty contest and talent portion. But, they always have. SC has very little experince at most positions and are a bunch of peieces that need to be put together. Maybe they gell by the time they come to SLC. But there are many holes.  imo, LR, is putting together a team to make a bowl and not get embarrased. His plan is to recruit a top 5 class of his guys for 2023, figure out who on this current roster fits and go for it in CW last year as a JR in 2023. Utah will be rebuilding most liekly that year… This year its all coming up UTAH. Injuries obviosuly always play a part, but apples to apples not worried about SC in 2022.

Ritchie and CP3 won’t play on the same field again unless it is in the pros. Ritchie won’t be back until the 2023 season and 2022 will be CP3’s last as he will declare by the end of this year’s bowl season.

I am looking forward to Ritchie and Sione Fotu coming back from their missions since they both showed so well in 2020. Those will be huge pieces to add to the defense.

the growth he showed over the 2nd half of the year was absolutely incredible and he hasnt gotten enough recognition for it. The no camp/covid year obviously stunted his growth a little bit, but he didnt just take a leap towards the end of the year, he took leaps.

He came in with a different skillset than Jaylon and a different developmental curve. He didnt come in playing press man right away. That took away from his shine a little bit I think. But this kid is going to be our next round 1 guy and has a chance to be CB1 in the 2023/24 draft

Thanks for being a Ute CP3

I guess I am one who thinks they have the potential to win 10-ish games next season. They have too much talent up and down the roster, and will be galvanized by their celebrity head coach into wanting to prove themselves immediately. I think it’s inevitable that Caleb Williams transfers in, and the sheer number of incoming transfers to their program is kind of amazing.

I would not be surprised if they win the division honestly. I think the Utes will beat them here, but Utah has such a rough schedule, I can see them being a game behind. I hope I’m wrong, but it’s definitely something I could see. I imagine they will immediately be better, and may fall off in 2023 a bit, and then be a whole lot better in 2024.

A large group of us are going to Florida for the game.  I also remembered that BYU will be playing in Florida against USF that Labor Day weekend.  We will be spending time in Orlando, so I thought I had better get my flights arranged before hordes of BYU and Utah fans decide to go to Florida that weekend.  We all know what happened to the price of airfare for the Rose Bowl.

Delta has extended its deal for canceling flights through 2023.  So, if something happens and we can’t go – we will get credit for future flights.  So, I got my flights arranged.

I really hope it’s a night game because I don’t want to sit in the sun and humidity during the middle of the day.  I hope we get the ABC night game or at least the ESPN evening game.  There are a couple of other big games that weekend including Ohio State/Notre Dame and Oregon/ Georgia.  But, our game should be one of the biggest three games that weekend.

A few Recruits to keep an eye on, that apparently are on visits to Utah this weekend :

Justius Lowe – Oregon Athlete that committed to Utah on 12/14/21, but did Not sign. Since that time, (and per 247 Sports) he has received offers from Florida, Notre Dame, and USC. He also has a Visit scheduled with Notre Dame on 1/28/22.

Jamarrien Burt – Florida DB. Adam Gorney, (Rivals National Recruiting Director), believes Utah has a good shot at signing Burt.

Walker Lyons – California TE. He is a 2023 4* recruit, as per 247 Sports.

The 2/2/22 Signing date is coming up. Anyone aware of any other Recruiting Targets ?

    TIA & Go Utes !!
