Confused as to why we wouldn’t want to add more talent? Ritchie will come back for the 2023 season. That’s a year we will have without a solid safety duo.

Ritchie was great during his freshman year, but coming back from a mission is never easy. I think adding Bassa alongside Bishop for the next two years would be a solid plan while Ritchie gets back in shape.

Dart may be a placeholder for 1 year at best while a transfer sits out or a 5* freshman CA QB that signs in 2 weeks waits for Dart to get injured or have a bad game. So in 2023, Caleb Williams or some other 5* from CA will be playing, not Dart.

He has 1 more year of a G5+ schedule before they join the Big 12 in 2023. There is no way this many high profile west coast jobs will be open next year. USC, UW, ASU (Herm’s getting canned) and WSU will keep the current interim coach. Unless he wants to wait for UCLA or Oregon he should jump ship. Stanford, OSU, Colorado, Utah, and U of A are locked down. Kalani shouldn’t go G5. He’s a hot commodity right now and should cash in. I’d say 5 year $27.5M deal to UW would get it done.  $5.25M a year makes him 3rd highest in the conference right above Whitt.

Utah has been ranked in the CFP poll more times than any other PAC 12 team and is tied for #7 on the list of all teams that have been ranked the most frequently in the CFP poll (33 appearances as of the 11/23/21 poll). Utah will likely take sole possession of that #7 ranking next week, as LSU continues to miss out on the rankings this year.

Had Utah had it’s act together earlier in the 2021 season (not dropping the two OOC games), Utah would certainly be in the Top Four this week – even with one conference loss. No matter, it feels like the Utahverse is quite pleased with where this team is at right now.

The CFP has consistently shown that a one loss PAC 12 team will likely get the go-ahead nod into a 4-team playoff. However, that “consistency” can only be evidenced by four individual PAC 12 performances over the span of eight seasons: Oregon (2014), Washington (2016), Utah’s near hit in 2019 and Oregon’s previous Top Four placements in the 2021 rankings.

It’s likely that in the near future, two losses will no longer be a de facto barrier point to entry in the CFP. The CFP powers-that-be meet on December 1 to discuss the latest expansion proposals on the table. There has already been credible speculation that the Commissioners, who hold the fate of CFP expansion in their hands, could come to a consensus by the end of December and approve a 12-team playoff format. If consensus agreement to expand is achieved, we will see a 12-team playoff format as soon as the 2022 season. If consensus agreement to expand is not reached this year, we likely will not see a 12-team playoff format until the 2024 or 2025 season.

In a 12-team playoff format, Utah would have made the 2019 playoff as the #11 ranked team after falling to Oregon in the PAC 12 Championship.

I’ve appreciated watching Utah maintain a presence in the CFP landscape during most of its existence. What’s been difficult to stomach, as a Utah fan, is that a consistently productive offense has been the key missing piece needed to elevate Utah to the level where they are consistently in the Top 4 discussion. I think this all changed when Ludwig returned and removed the key from the ignition of the OC carousel. The offense is there. The offensive playmakers are appearing, but more importantly they are appearing in multiples and giving Utah the offensive depth that it has lacked for most of the CFP era.

Utah’s “respect” of the process almost bit them too hard this year with the Brewer fiasco. It was pretty clear to me (especially in the BYU game) that Brewer didn’t quite grasp an understanding of the assignment at hand. Luckily depth was available, corrections were made (except to the punting game) and now we’re about to witness Utah’s respect of the process to payoff.

Utah WILL finally win a PAC 12 title in 2021.

Utah WILL finally earn a trip to the Rose Bowl.

Utah WILL be a playoff team in 2022.

The weight of the world will be on Utah’s shoulders in 2023 and we will have to wait and see how it is carried.

    Ghost,

That isn’t true. Costelli was basically 2b to Jackson’s 2a on the team but redshirting. If Rising had gone down the first half of the season we’d have seen a few weeks competition beetween Jackson aand Costelli for the job.

Costelli is leaving because Rising is entrenched – and rightfully so. He sees at least one year, and perhaps two, where he’ll most likely be on the bench with no guarantees given who’s coming in. I can’t blame him but it’s still a loss.

Perhaps the board is forgetting that he’s a four star pro style quarterback whose 40 time is terrific. He’s a carbon copy of Rising with a little more size and perhaps a stronger arm. I think he’d have earned the backup position this off season.

On a related note, I hope Jackson or Johnson will be ready to go in 2023. I don’t believe Rising stays beyond next season. Some say he isn’t NFL material. I think he is and will be ready to take that step following the 2022 season.

And if you throw out the 2020 year for the joke that it was – we have won the last three (complete season) championships.  Now, it’s time to step up and win the whole thing on December 3rd.

The wishful thinking of many on the Cougar board has our program in a downward spiral, never to return.  Our future looks great.  We of course will lose our best player, Lloyd.  However, we have so much returning.  Look at our QB, RB, and LB rooms.  We are loaded.  And we have another future AA at safety in Cole Bishop.  Wow, he has come on as a true freshman.  He has a great future ahead of him.  2022 and 2023 stack up to be potentially amazing seasons.

So, to my BYU friends – no we are not dead yet just because we lost the rivalry game this year.  Yes, you had a great season this year and will likely end up 11-2.  You punched us in the face and won the game fair-and-square.  But, our football program has a great future ahead IMO.

“I don’t want to be coaching into my sixties”. I have heard this from his mouth at a booster meeting.
Now hanging it up when you are staring down the most talented and potentially experienced bunch of kids you may ever have in 2022 and 2023?  Idk. But I wouldn’t fault him. This past year would wear thin on anyone that age.

Idk I would say 2019. If that team had this offensive line they go to the rose bowl. We are looking to be scary good in 2023 tho.
