If Utah beats Stanford, Arizona and Colorado, they will be ranked. Any losses to a top 10 team will not hurt a ranking in the 20s. It would then be unlikely another Pac team will pass us in rankings, if it was to happen it would be a north team winning out while beating Oregon. The runner up in the CCG can easily be passed over by Oregon in…[Read more]

Good review. Oregon will likely win the north with still another loss to go. Let it be Utah. It gets crazy if they lose another. Others in the north are very unlikely to win out. In the south Utah is almost a given. ASU can’t win out and Utah does not have more than one more loss possible. I am hoping that Utah does not back into the south…[Read more]

I agree, Oregon is not our concern. Utah simply takes our games one at a time, trying to win each, and accept the option offered to us in the post season. Concern for how to get other Pac teams to the post season is not at all our concern. If Utah is offered the Rose Bowl, it matters little to me what circumstances lead to that. Currently the…[Read more]

Jimmy Lake, a proud graduate of Eastern Washington, throwing shade on Oregon related to acedemic excellence. I guess he has his list of top acedemics.

There is not a circumstance where it is best for Utah to lose a game.

Some fans are focused on their own team and a desire to win it all and fail to process how difficult football success is, how hard it is to remain in the race deep into the season, season after season. We are now in a league, each team with resources we could only imagine a decade ago, that is very competitive. Even blue bloods like USC,…[Read more]

Any guesses as to how Lloyd is replaced in the first half? I favor a LBer over a Safety or NB, but I am not sure which of the options are most game ready. I think if DTR starts Sewall needs to play him and get 2 LBs focused on the run. I can only imagine Kelly is in a hurry to exploit the absense of Lloyd in the first half, so it will be…[Read more]

We were in good shape and had a lead when Lloyd went out. I feel the remainder of the game had everything to do with that event. Next, we need to play a half without him. I expect a week to prepare with have us more ready than the in game adjustment.

I have been critical of play calling especially the game with the Y. Both the plays in question were very good play calls. Sometimes in the heat of a game, often with QBs new to D1, there is so much on their mind that the short, soft, easy passes are not thrown with the right touch. After a few years it is second nature until going on to the…[Read more]

I think Smith needs a chance to do his work. I am willing to support the team as they claw forward from the messy transition. At least I may enjoy better parking options if others want to wait and see.

Do we see more NB than Stud LBer this year? We use to list the NB on the depth chart.

Utah’s LB position takes a full year with spring to settle in. The COVID year was not enough to get that done. For now, we can be happy for the young LBs to watch Sewell and Lloyd and get ready to see snaps next year. Reid is an anomaly, he is ahead of recent successful LBs for a freshman. Against UCLA we should see 3 LBer sets and Lloyd’s…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic I was thinking about the safety position next year, and that got me thinking in the forum Football 3 years, 9 months ago
I have heard insiders say he has a shot at the NFL. I don’t know if he has had one or two injuries. He very well could be back next year and be the best safety but that comes from pre-injury review. I think that is his plan.

Charlie replied to the topic missed the first half. just watching it now in the forum Football 3 years, 9 months ago
Inside the 5 I favor the punt block set. The shorter drop speeds the kick and often causes a short kick. The lack of return blocking is offset by a line trying to max protect. Good field position is pretty much guaranteed. From the 1 it should be a no-brainer. It’s 7 points more than it is 2.

Not to worry. Realize there are 11 other teams in the conference with as good or better resources that are driven to win conference games. We don’t stand out and above the other 11. The conference will always be a fight every week for us. The southern division champ seem to always have a loss or two, we can’t become discouraged by our first…[Read more]
