The percentage mix is just a starting plan. Most important is the WRs ability to gain separation than ability to avoid drops. Last, to a lesser degree, OL protection. As the game gets going WR separation even on many running plays is noted. WRs that can separate and don’t drop will not be ignored unless the QB is below average. The OC wants…[Read more]

The Kaho committment is interesting. It will probably push Sewell to safty leaving him, Calvert and Tufaga to compete for the two remaing LB spots. The other new LBs will show up in the special teams likely. With Herbert getting healthy, we should have a third safty. There should be lots of options for LB sets for short yardage even options…[Read more]

If there is one more, it should be a CB.

Larry’s son is a walk on, no big deal. Jones and Martinez are clearly Pac level athletes. Connor, I don’t know about, is not on the roster, don’t know why he would fit in. Lots of questions with the team, much to work on, this is off the list not near the bottom. I have not been a fan of family on the team but as long as it does not impact…[Read more]

Goodness, Jones is still out. Now it seems Jantunen has returned to Finland to help his national maintain their european standing. Awsome Larry allows that but it sure leaves the utes shorthanded. So far they are holding their own against Stanford a bubble team. Hope Jantunen makes it back soon.

Charlie replied to the topic Timmy Allen’s Freethrow shooting in the forum Basketball (Men) 4 years, 6 months ago
Absolutely. When you have a 90% free throw shooter, everything possible should be done to force the other team to foul him to stop the clock. Required strategy for Jr Jazz and above.

Alex is a great coach and would head the list of folks with Utah ties. I think Utah ties are great but not key. I do agree that if we have a top paid coach we should have results that are commensurate. But as we try to finish the season as well as possible I don’t want to burden the players with the additional load of worrying about a lame duck…[Read more]

Allen is not the best but is in the 70s, actually better than Jones, he had a bad night. Carlson is in the 50s and should be out at crunch time. Larsson is automatic in the 90s, Battin, Jantunen, and Martinez are all in the 80s. I don’t expect to see that much awkwardness in a short stretch for a while. I think we realize we need a plan for…[Read more]

I agree. If he would join Barton and Moa coming to the U, I would be happy with the instate recruiting. Getting Maile also would be more than expected.

Charlie replied to the topic The team seems to be getting a lot of positive press nationally in the forum Football 4 years, 6 months ago
I disagree. Looking at the top Pac teams Utah has not lost key players while all the others have. Utah had its best year of recruiting in the Pac. The transfers should provide a good option is key areas. I expect the OL to be better, no losses and another year for all the underclassmen. We will get our starting QB from last year back. Most…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic I am perfectly happy with our current pass catchers in the forum Football 4 years, 7 months ago
The WR are ok, however, I do feel they need to get better at gaining separation. The TEs and Covey do seem to consistently separate. I hope the Utah coaches were watching how Sark used creative misdirection to get receivers leaking out without a defender. We ask a lot for a QB to throw to someone with only a step or two on their defender so often.

Oddly played good but lost. Lost track of another 10 point halftime lead. We had what was needed except free throw shooting. Not often do 3 guys miss both when they are needed. Lots of folks netting nicked up as well. Need to put together a complete game to take the next step.

Utes up 10 at the half, taking advantage of Ducks not playing well. Allen is on fire.

Charlie replied to the topic Coach K in the forum Basketball (Men) 4 years, 7 months ago
I don’t hate coach K, just want us to do better. I think he is much like I was, old school, slow to change, wanting to change, but slip back to telling folks what to do when persuading gets difficult. I’m guessing here, but the new culture requires a leader that is relatable, not just right. Oddly, if he got past the tipping point where…[Read more]

I knew several that went to the Y and never attended church before or while there. I think the endorsements are handed out with the hope that attending will be good for inactive kids. There are kids of every kind down there, most attend church but some are literally ramroded in by parents or some other sponsor. Then again, what is the point of…[Read more]
