Charlie replied to the topic Who the heck is Devon Bailey (sp?) in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
I think this is a good thing. Should be unrelated to the progress of others. I wonder if he didn’t sign with anyone before his mission. He seems to have the back story of a good prospect. For now I feel we got a lucky pickup.

I am ok with getting the ball to Covey with run pass options, hopefully in good situations for success.

Charlie replied to the topic Why are BYU fans so confident they’re going to beat us this? in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
They often show the ability to upset someone. Will that be someone out of the MWC? Or do they catch lightning and get a P5 that overlooks them? I do think they can get a big upset win but still not have 6 wins.

If the DL can get pressure with a 4 man rush consistently and force a RB to help, the defense everywhere will look amazing. The rotation will make everyone shine at moments.
The TEs can be used in the run game or make a D stacked to stop the run look silly. I hope Ludwig uses them to block or chip then release. Play action could be a killer.…[Read more]

Tough to play a non-conference game in-between winning the south and playing in the CCG six days later. The Y is good enough and motivated in their biggest game of the year to make a game of the week we had between those two events. And as mentioned, odd special team events like the fumble, blocked FG, and shanked punt, likely due to lack of…[Read more]

I worry that it messes with the team prep when you bounce from afternoon to morning to evening. I say play the game when it makes sense for the fans in the stadium then put it on TV whenever they need to have a game. I don’t care much for the guys in the bar that get the suspense killed by a loudmouth that walks in and tells you the outcome. No…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Looking back at 2016 recruiting, a bunch of 3 stars with NFL in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
Goodness, Mitch was a 2 star on the way to an all-American. Samson, Devontae and Fotu were other 2 stars. Along with a bunch of 3 stars that will play in the NFL. Garett was easy to see but so many others have developed beyond what others thought. A very good class.

Hope he hangs around even more. 99% of our fans would be happy to see him. We had another national championship coach wind down with us and it worked out very well, another would be welcomed. This speaks to how close he is to Witt.

September anytime of day can work for me. Odd times create opportunities to watch other games that day. By November, early games are not so good and late games can become awful. Late games in November need to be in Arizona or on the coast, can’t be that hard to schedule.

I think some don’t realize how hard it is to get to the top of a P5 conference, particularly when you are new to that level. I think the list of schools that moved to that level and win it all is short? I think there are many P5 teams that would very much like to be in Utah’s position. Sure there is more to go but there is no reason be…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Can we become a national championship contender? in the forum Football 6 years ago
What is needed is to finish as a one loss team and the conference needs to have another top 12 team. A one loss team will almost always make it unless there are no other good teams in the league. The ACC can pull that off but not the Pac. It is not easy but doable to win the CCG after a season with only 1 loss. When it happens, the team will…[Read more]

Charlie replied to the topic Utes pick up grad transfer OL in the forum Football 6 years, 2 months ago
My thoughts as well. If he could not take the starting position at Marshall, it is not likely he can stand up to Pac DL guys. Nice to have him in the depth at OL and likely the best option out there but Harding is required to do magic, and maybe he can, to assume he can help keep our QB standing. This is a nice thing but not an exciting thing.

Two years ago we did not know Johnston would not work out and did not have a backup plan. This year we do know Johnston will not work out and have a chance for a backup plan. We got lucky two years ago, this time around we have more time to form a backup plan. I don’t expect to be as lucky, kicking may not be a team strength, but I do expect…[Read more]

We are the only Pac 12 school and only school west of Oklahoma. At some point that must turn into a recruiting advantage for the best linemen in the country that want to go to school out west. I think this is just now turning into critical mass that moves it from a recent blip to a meaningful expectation. Hope we can capitalize.

Charlie replied to the topic A few thoughts on the Spring Game in the forum Football 6 years, 2 months ago
You need to consider the year for the RBs, don’t compare Fr to Sr when looking at the future. Brumfield compares well to spring Moss before his So year. Often spring plays are called to look at what players are working on including new things. The focus may even be working the OL with things they are not getting right or downfield blocking…[Read more]

Jimmer should keep his dreams to himself. No one should need to help him and his fans with his dream. This is not Make a Wish, what about all the other people that are simply involved with the Jazz season and have to sit thru the event. I would suggest a game in Provo with local players where Jimmer scores most the points for both teams, as a…[Read more]

Down but not crap. I think the three will not go away as fast as you expect. We need the tournament wins to begin to turn around our perception.

Charlie replied to the topic New Poll: Predict the 2019 Utah Football regular season record in the forum Football 6 years, 4 months ago
Washington will decline, I think they and WSU will be at a similar level with Utah. For now the lines seem thin.
ASU will be the strongest competition for Utah. They do skip Stanford and Washington, Utah skips Stanford and Oregon.

Awsome to be ahead without Barefield playing. Hopefully his return will be noticed.
