gonna need a link to these “multiple credible sources” to see if they are the same ones that have been claiming that teams will be abandoning the Pac for the last year

2008 National Champ replied to the topic How freaking cool is it… in the forum Football 2 years ago
In one season (1988) I witnessed:
– Air Force beating Utah 56-49 in a game where Scott Mitchell set the single game passing record, Air Force ran for over 600 yards and completed the only pass they threw for a 60 yard TD.
– UTEP (UTEP!!!!!) – putting up their best season in the last 70 years
– Utah somehow overcoming a 9 year losing streak to the…[Read more] -

Can you edit the thread title? I’ve never figured out how to do that

2008 National Champ replied to the topic 2023 Roster in the forum Football 2 years ago
I believe that the start of camp is when the roster becomes official. For incoming freshman that did not early enroll, their first quarter (semester?) hasn’t started yet. Transfers and incoming freshman also may need summer to finish off credits needed to enroll.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic PAC12 Media Poll in the forum Football 2 years ago
I love this line:
The media has correctly selected the Conference Champion in 33 of 62 previous preseason polls, including six times in the 12-year Football Championship Game era.
Media groupthink is apparently only about 53% accurate.

You’ve made multiple posts on multiple threads stating that you don’t think UW is worthy of the hype they are getting. I even highlighted exactly what I was referencing in your original post.
– UW needs to prove they can play defense and that they can sustain their 2022 offensive production.
– USC needs to prove that they can play defense.

Without seeing the whole RB list I’d imagine most pundits have Irving (Oregon), Ott (Cal) & Martinez (OSU) as the conference’s top 3. There’s also a couple of transfers that are predicted to do well. Jackson is pretty much an unknown in comparison
If Jackson has the season we all think he is capable of, he’ll be in the mix. Until then the…[Read more]

In my mind, they have much to prove
Doesn’t every team? Everyone’s record is 0-0 right now and while last year may be a good indicator, past performance is not a guarantor of future success.

Agreed. Not to take anything away from Moss but Booker was so much more effective as a receiver and was a threat to take any carry to the house. Moss was so good at getting more out of any play than initially seemed possible but was limited to swing passes in the receiving game.
It’s really 1A and 1B with White close behind.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic OnlyU, can you give us a health status of the players? in the forum Football 2 years ago
I get the concern about the readiness of Brant and Cam but for those of you that like to worry I’d recommend picking something else to fret about…they’ll be ready and very effective in the opener. I can’t be any more clear than that.
Seems pretty definitive to me

Chicken v Egg: was the recruiting lacking or the performances of the recruits lacking?
If we are being honest, Utah doesn’t have a great track record with RB recruits. John White, transfer. DeVontae Booker, transfer. Armand Shyne, transfer. Joe Williams, transfer. Tavion Thomas, transfer. JaQuinden, transfer. Over the same period here are…[Read more]

That’s the goal: stack talent on top of talent on top of talent and let the best play

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Which incoming freshmen will be impact players in 2023 in the forum Football 2 years ago
I would consider downhill safety and box safety as synonyms for what used to be known as strong safety when teams played with 4 DB’s and ran cover 3 as their base.
Based on Hall’s size, I think he’ll eventually fill more of the Nephi Sewell role as a hybrid LB/S who will line up in a traditional 4-3 look. He’s a little shorter than you would…[Read more]

Yet Northwestern got the same benefit to losing in their CCG in 2018 as Utah did. Northwestern isn’t the perennial doormat they were in the 1980’s

I think so much depends on who he gets at DC and if he is smart enough to let them run their own show. First couple of years will probably look like Cal under Sonny Dykes where they are as capable of giving up 40 as they are of scoring 40.
Stanford has always been able to attract quality linemen so if he can continue that, I agree that he can…[Read more]

Challenge accepted!
Prior to Florida last year, the last time Utah played an SEC team in the regular season was 1984 @ Tennessee (21-27 loss). They also played @ Tennessee in 1979 (18-51), @ Florida in 1977 (29-38), @ LSU in 1976 (7-35), @ Tennessee in 1975 (7-40), and @ LSU in 1974 (10-35).
So the correct answer is that the next time will be…[Read more]
