2008 National Champ replied to the topic So, what happens at QB next year? in the forum Football 2 years, 2 months ago
I’ve seen a bunch of articles lately which say that there’s a very good chance that all 12 Pac starters this year will be transfers. Patiently waiting your turn just isn’t part of the mindset for QB’s these days so I think you always have to be ready and willing to augment your QB room from the portal.
I’ve felt since both Johnson and Rose…[Read more]

They only gave up 20 per last year. Doubt they’ll double that

The speculation is that his Utah offer is conditional upon the conclusion of his case which is supposed to be decided in August. I wouldn’t expect to hear anything prior.

or the two of your are completely ignoring the possibility that Andy Ludwig didn’t invent a whole new offense in 2021 that was based on 13 personnel.

Oregon preview of Utah post spring. The author does really good film breakdowns and if you are interested in an outside point of view, it’s a good read. However, if the only allowable opinion is that Utah will go 15-0 while winning by an average margin of 30+ and half the team will get drafted in the first round (aka Georgia).,,

@ TCU, home against Nebraska and Colorado State in that order. They do get Stanford at home week 7 so there’s a pretty good chance at 2 wins (CSU being the other). Arizona, ASU, WSU are probably toss-ups but they won’t be favored.
Beat Stanford (new head coach) & CSU and then win two of Neb (new head coach), UA, ASU (new head coach), WSU gets…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Briton Allen transfers from USC to Utah in the forum Football 2 years, 2 months ago
He may have but the positions play differently at the college level. Ritchie certainly excelled in the same role Bishop has been in the last two seasons which in Scalley’s D requires more a SS skillset.
Your typical HS receiver probably runs around a 4.7, TE’s in the seam aren’t as much of a threat and QB’s aren’t as capable of hitting their…[Read more]

Pretty much all the DB room is lacking is a true centerfielder (Marcus Williams, Reggie Porter type). If this kid can allow Vaki to play the hybrid nickel (think Nephi 2021) it’s a good pickup. Moving Vaki, Ritchie or Bishop to Free will work but it’s not a natural position for any of them

Tough call. Do we eliminate Head Coaches who clearly act as titular OC’s like Ryan Day, Kiffin, Sarkisian, Riley, Dillingham etc?
I don’t pretend to know the value of every current OC in FBS but Kendal Briles and Jeff Lebby are definitely ahead of Ludwig. Ryan Grubb at UW, the guy Saban hired away from Notre Dame (Rees?), Monken (is he back…[Read more]

I’m not sure what is surprising about the roster turnover. Reilly at SC had something like 60 total transfers in/out last year from what many thought was a pretty good roster, albeit poorly coached, when he took over. But it didn’t get the same pub because he’s not as concerned with keeping his face on the sports front page as Sanders.
At the…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Kuithe is not getting a lot of love in 2024 draft projections in the forum Football 2 years, 3 months ago
Shannon Sharpe was also drafted in the 7th round out of Savannah State. So if we go back to the OP, 6th/7th round for Kuithe if we use Sharpe as a comparable would be correct.
I think the larger issue is that fans of any team tend to overvalue the worth of the best players on that team when projecting to the next level. The NFL doesn’t always…[Read more]

Pretty sure that stat doesn’t include the times he recovered his own muff. Also doesn’t include the muff he had against ASU in 2021 that was nullified by penalty.
Covey is credited with 5 return TD’s for his career. If we just use your number of 4 turnovers, that’s high-risk high reward to me. Yes, every time he got the ball on special teams…[Read more]

Covey was high risk-high reward. He put the ball on the ground a lot
Vele appears more like Dante Pettis from UW (career punt return TD leader). Long strider, not game breaking speed, but definitely faster than he appears. Gilmore was brought in to be the punt returner but muffed at least two punts.
There are plenty of guys on the roster…[Read more]

So I’m at the dentist this afternoon getting a crown fixed. Let’s make a deal is on the TV with the sound off but the closed captioning on. Based on the little I could glean, it was apparently teacher’s week.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Diabate—was the risk to transfer “worth it”? in the forum Football 2 years, 3 months ago
Diabate was dinged up early and didn’t get to showcase as much as I’m sure he would have liked. He improved significantly over the course of the year and there’s no guarantee that he would have gotten the exposure he wanted at Florida. Other than that, I’m not sure how we as fans would decide if a player transferring would be worthwhile.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Just watched Kincaid's highlights against USC in the forum Football 2 years, 3 months ago
Maybe I’m misreading the play-by-play but I’ve got Utah at 23 points from the red zone. 3 TD’s, 1 FG in 6 trips.
Utah ended up tied 68h in Red Zone scoring % (61-73, .836) so your point stands that they need to be more efficient in the red zone. When your offense is so dependent on red zone scoring (53 of 73 TD’s, .726), being able to finish…[Read more]

“Best 11” is always conditional. Injury risk/fatigue, personnel package you want to run, score of the game, time left.,, all need to be factored in every play
