GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Terrible effort today (so far) in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago
U serious bro? The first delay of game was because the refs allowed AZ a late substitution which delayed Utah’s play call. The second delay of game was Whit was trying to point out to the refs that they allowed a late substitution which delayed Utah’s play call.
Two delay of game penalties means “Whit has lost his edge”? Good hell. You might be…[Read more]

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic I question the decision to sit Thomas… in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago
I don’t question it. Why would I? I don’t know anything about the injury or how serious it is, and I’m guessing you don’t either.
If it’s the type of thing where he can go but a wrong tackle or a bad cut can make it season-ending, then absolutely sitting him was the right thing to do.

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic USMNT v Mexico in Cincinnati in World Cup Qualifying Today in the forum Professional Sports 3 years, 8 months ago
Well, that was fun. At the end of the day, the strength of the U.S. attack was just a bit too much for that patchwork Mexico back line. Dos a cero! The second half was the best half of soccer from the USMNT in this entire qualifying cycle, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. And Pulisic’s “man in the mirror” undershirt was first-rate…[Read more]

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Best Football Team of All Time in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago
Yeah, seriously. If Oregon and Texas could pick apart that secondary, 2004 Utah would do it too. That was one of the best offenses in the history of college football.

I still say recency bias. The 2004 team would pick the 2019 secondary apart.

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Best Football Team of All Time in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago
This is the correct answer. 2004 was the best team. They absolutely demolished everyone they played. The closest game they played was a 14-point win against Air Force, and the only thing that kept it from being more was the clock-chewing triple option they ran. They would’ve beaten anyone in the country by 7+.
The 2008 team might have been the…[Read more]

No Pulisic (starting), Reyna, Dest for the US. Mexico’s top 3 center backs not available.
This is going to be a war of attrition and pretty compelling sport.

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic UW Chicanery in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago
That’s a fairly typical HR move for any organization where there’s evidence or suspicion of serious wrongdoing. You suspend the person to keep them away from witnesses and/or keep them from intentionally harming the organization until you conclude the investigation, and then you either fire or reinstate.

Wait…we’re backing into what, now? Last I checked we had one conference loss and just laid a beatdown for the ages on a respectable team at their house. I don’t think Utah is backing into jack s–t.

Or maybe don’t hang your sense of self-worth on the ratio you’re getting from complete strangers on a message board.

Good: Everything you just said.
Bad: Stanford’s crowd. On the 96-yard TD run, my wife said “one yard for every Stanford fan.” She wasn’t exaggerating by much.
Ugly: That jacket Whit had on.

At halftime, Utah had more points than Stanford had total yards.

And from what I saw last night, Greer is slooooooow.
You’re absolutely right – teams with hefty bigs are going to feast on us. That’s why we’re picked 10th in the conference.

If Carlson has come up at all, then it’s from, like, 140 to 150. He still looks like a dungeon prisoner to me.

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Did anyone make it to the exhibition game tonight and want to give a report? in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 years, 8 months ago
You are correct on the starting 5.
Also, I forgot to mention that they are a fun team to watch. They get out and run, and there are a couple guys who aren’t afraid to go to the hole in the halfcourt game. Craig Smith is as advertised…really pumped up when a guy makes a play. The chemistry seems to be genuinely good. I got to talk to a couple…[Read more]

I went. We won. By like 35 or so.
They started off flat and nervous but got better as the night went on. The boys play hard and are really committed on defense. Rebounding is going to be an issue. New players I liked: Worster, Jenkins, Madsen.

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Power of the NEZ in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago
It was mandated? I don’t remember that. I do know that other stadiums in the U.S. have standing sections today, so it can’t be a federal law. Perhaps there’s a Utah law against it, but I doubt it.
Utah already sells SRO tickets to football games. This is just giving them a designated area.
-
GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Power of the NEZ in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago
I assume you’re referring to the Hillsborough disaster. If so, that had less to do with the standing and more to do with (a) overselling of GA tickets and (b) poor crowd control at the turnstiles. Both of those things would not be an issue at Rice-Eccles.

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Power of the NEZ in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago
I have a crazy, out-of-the-box idea: Turn the SEZ into a “safe standing” area.
You haven’t heard loud and crazy until you’ve been to a soccer game in Europe or South America, and the standing-only areas are a big reason why.
I think it would be cool to be the first football stadium in America to do something like that.
