Yeah, there were a bunch of really strong safeties so I tried to list them elsewhere if possible. In particular, cornerback wasn’t stellar which is why Blackmon was a clear choice for that CB/S /nickel role on the first team.
Pulling Blackmon away from there would mean putting another CB on there. I already cheated a bit by putting Vaki in…[Read more]

Most teams use at least two RB in rotation, which is why. Honestly, if we were just listing 1 RB it would also hurt since we’d then be leaving off Tavion, Joe Williams, Ty Jordan and JaQuinden.
You’ve made good points and I’ve made some updates. Dimick should be there – he was overlooked since he didn’t go to the NFL, but that’s irrelevant here.…[Read more]

Fair – I agree with you. That was sentimentality getting the better of me

Lowell Lotulelei was a miss, absolutely. I’ve added him in.
Blechen I didn’t realize went through 2014, thought he was further back and not eligible. Still though, I have 3 safeties there so I want more coverage if possible.
Norris I came very close on. I reordered him onto the 2nd team about 5 times and wouldn’t argue at all with him on there.…[Read more]

Just saw an offseason post on Reddit asking to put together the top team of the last decade (so 2014-2023 seasons) from your program
QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 5 OL
2 DT, 2 DE/EDGE, 3 LB, 3 CB, 2 S…(I cheated slightly here)
K, PHere’s my (very quick, rough) take
QB: Tyler Huntley
RB: Zach Moss
RB: Devontae Booker
WR: Britain Covey
WR: Darren…[Read more] -

The description of “prone to multi-loss seasons” is a bit hilarious.
Unless you’re Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St or Clemson during their run, you generally have multiple-loss seasons.
Since 2000, LSU has had 4 seasons with 1 or fewer loss. And 3 of them were national title seasons.
In 9 years at Michigan, Harbaugh has 7 multi-loss seasons. And 1 of…[Read more]

Looking at this the things that stand out to me are
- Need more OL in general
- WR isn’t bad….but lose a ton next year and don’t really have the folks ready to take over
- Same story at LB. Great top 3, but they all likely leave after this season and we’ve currently got nothing behind them
- QB is ok…unless bad things happen. Not a must-have to…

I actually had Bentley in my spreadsheet…just missed him when I transferred it over to here. And I haven’t put the missionaries in since they’re not technically on the roster

Here’s my understanding of our (loose) depth charts with eligibility remaining. Note that some players almost certainly won’t use all their eligibility though. Barton I think will go NFL, Bernard probably won’t be back in 2025 for a 7th year (4+COVID+RS+Medical)… but they will at least have the option
Quarterback
- Cam Rising (1 year)
- Brandon…

I do a lot of work tracking ratings and viewership. It’s been a long time since any Big 12 game wasn’t at least on ESPN+. But most teams will have a few ESPN+ games each year (including nearly every FCS game). Depends on if you view ESPN+ as ‘televised’ or not.

krindor replied to the topic Taeshaun Lyons in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
This is a bad take in any case, but particularly so for Taeshaun Lyons.
I’m guessing you’re confusing him with Tejan Bridges who did have the incident (related to guns and weed) that led him to be kicked off the Oklahoma team. That said, if you can’t recognize the name of a player, maybe you’re not the best positioned to judge them

NCAA ruled that this off-season players can get a free transfer no matter how many they’ve already had

Just looking at what Taeshaun Lyons has posted, Utah is the only program he’s highlighted since entering the portal.

krindor replied to the topic Not trying to stir up trouble but I've got a question about Utah NIL deals. in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
It’s not about the absolute in a vacuum value. It’s about comparison to the next best alternative.
No Cam means the next best alternative is…Bryson Barnes. Maybe Brandon Rose.
No JJ means the next best alternative is…Jaylon Glover, Ashton Jeanty, Micah Bernard and potentially the second year guys.
That’s not an attack on JJ, who has been…[Read more]

krindor replied to the topic 2024 question marks in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
Truthfully it depends on how far we want to go.
Yes, we don’t rely on WR as much as other teams.
Yes, Utah should have a fantastic defense.
Yes, we will likely have good non-WR pass catchers and a solid run game. But if we want to raise another level, we need to strengthen our weaknesses instead of just hiding them. If we could get someone like…[Read more]

Truth of the matter is that Whittingham can’t know that. Medical redshirts are weird in that they don’t happen at the time, they really only happen once the player is out of eligibility and then petitions to have an additional year. So he might feel good about still getting a medical RS, but it would be decided later. And playing would certainly…[Read more]

krindor started the topic Big 12 Recruiting Breakdown in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
As many have rightly pointed out, recruit class rankings put a LOT of weight on class size – which doesn’t really always make sense. So I generally prefer looking at average recruit rating, but even that has issues. It’s obviously easer to fill out a smaller class and programs shouldn’t be seen as worse recruiters simply for getting another…[Read more]

Some thoughts on Radcliffe
Full disclosure/caveat that I have no inside info or particular skill breaking down film
Radcliffe is a bit of an interesting case and frankly reminds me of Adarrius Harshaw, a 87.5 rated player who decommited from Utah…and ended up signing with Austin Peay. Harshaw had a great junior year and committed to Utah…but…[Read more]

We can (and should) take shots on lower rated kids who we believe in. That’s always been the case. As many point out, there’s plenty who exceed their rating or fail to live up to it.
In large quantities, the ratings end up VERY accurate. So the class should mostly be higher rated guys, but there will be low rated upside types either way. A…[Read more]

krindor replied to the topic John Henry Daley transfers from BYU to Utah in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
He’s an edge rusher, was seen as a fairly good one (high 3 star…not crazy high but 87-88 range).
Committed to BYU in 2021 class, went on a mission in 2021 and 2022 and then didn’t play this year.
Some noise that he was frustrated he didn’t get playing time in his first year off mission (he’ll be a RS Freshman next season), but a bigger issue…[Read more]
