  • Many if not most wide receivers run out of bounds before taking a big hit.  How often have you seen Covey step out of bounds to avoid a hit?  He is a small guy.  He would have the best excuse to avoid a hit from someone a 100 pounds bigger than him.  But, no, Covey fights for every extra yard he can gain.
We have had better athletes at Utah.  We…[Read more]

  • These are from me.
Most improved: Bam – This is not even close IMO.  He has become a beast.
Best player that I had never heard about: Cole Bishop. – I never heard of him and now he has become one of our most important defensive players.
The Team-Leader: Covey – He is the guy who keeps things in perspective, has a sense of humor, loves his…[Read more]

If I were in charge – I would make coach McBride an honorary captain for the Rose Bowl.  When Mac took over in 1990 our football program was in dire straits.  We were terrible.  Mac was able to change the culture and by 1994 we ended the season in the top-ten.
Mac hired a young man named Kyle Wittinghame to join his defensive staff.  The school…[Read more]

  • Is obvious, Lloyd.  However, he is a team guy and I am certain he will play.  He came back for this.
No other Ute is established enough that they could not use the publicity of the Rose Bowl to help their stock.  So, I think we can stop worrying about who may not play.  We will have a lot of guys leave early for the draft.  Leaving on a high…[Read more]

  • On September 18th we were beaten in the trenches by SDSU.  Most of us including me – thought “Here we go again.”  Many wanted Harding fired.  OnlyU had told us that the Oline would be good.  We even began to doubt OnlyU.  Our Oline became a strength on this team.
Our defense played less than stellar even up to the first half of the ASU game.  The…[Read more]

  • Yesterday morning I was in the hospital and feeling terrible.  I wasn’t sure if I would get to watch the game.  Fortunately, I was able to watch.  It was good medicine for me  – Thanks Utes.  Unfortunately, I feel terrible again this morning.
My grades for the game last night:
Defense – A+  They were amazing.  They only allowed 3 first downs in…[Read more]

  • I didn’t see the game last night and noticed he only played 7 minutes.  I assume he had some kind of injury.  How serious?

  • Montana beat Washington
    Washington beat Stanford
    Stanford beat Oregon
    Oregon beat Ohio State
Therefore, Montana is better than Ohio State.
Or Fresno State may be the best team because
    They beat UCLA
    UCLA beat LSU
    LSU beat TAMU
    TAMU beat Alabama
I post this only to show how stupid comparative scoring is.  One team is putting up banners…[Read more]

Cristobal’s mother is apparently very ill and it sounds like she is near the end.  He went across the country to see her this week and then flew back.  I know this can be tough and I am sure it is tough for him.
What would you do in a situation like this?  I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer.
Rick Majerus twice left his team (for the…[Read more]

  • Have we seen anything yet?

  • Going into the game.  Utah was playing great on both sides of the ball.  There was a 200-yard difference from how many yards our offense generated and how much our defense was allowing.  That’s amazing.  I had watched Oregon play multiple times and just wasn’t that impressed, especially after they lost to ASU.  Like with many of you that game was…[Read more]

  • I know they read this board and often take our advice. 🙂
If someone put me in charge – I would have all of the cross-division games in the PAC12 completed by the end of October.  This would prevent a championship game between two teams that played just 9 days ago.
I would also go to an eight-game conference schedule.  I was opposed to this…[Read more]

  • Quote from the article:
The Pete Carroll-era Trojans are the prime example, of course, and as exciting as Oregon’s Chip Kelly teams were and as well as Mario Cristobal has recruited recently, it’s just different when it’s happening in Los Angeles. A dominant USC has the potential to increase the value of the conference’s media rights deals. It…[Read more]

We didn’t play our best of offense
    Defense was excellent
It’s different playing the same team twice in 13 days
There will be no major overhauls to the game plan.  There will be some tweaks.
The energy and preparation is more important than the game plan
Did not play well on either side of the ball in the 2019 CCG
    Lloyd coming back this…[Read more]

  • We have been here before.  Now, it’s time to deliver.  We need to come out and punch these guys in the face early as they did with us in 2019.  We need to forget the game from 9 days ago and act like we are playing the third-ranked team.
    Go Utes!!!

  • I want the PAC12 to be like the Big10 and SEC.  I want it to be a conference full of great teams.  Of course, I want Utah to be the top team.  Just because USC is great doesn’t mean we can’t be greater.  If we go to a 12 team championship, we would not have to win our conference to get an invite.

  • With about a minute to go in the Oregon game – their safety McKinley was called with an obvious targeting.  After reviewing they overturned the call.  Both announcers were stunned.  It was classic targeting.  I am not a conspiracy kind of guy – but I’m willing to bet that a call came from PAC12 headquarters telling them that it had no effect on…[Read more]

  • They are playing the best they have all season after their worst performance last week.
Any guesses on the point spread for Friday?
    I predict Utah – 2

  • ProudUte started the topic The day after in the forum Football 3 years, 8 months ago

I admit I was not happy with our performance yesterday.  It’s now the day after.  I have had a day to let it sink in.  Here is what I think.
    – The defense played excellently.  They only allowed a 56-yard field goal and less than 200 yards.  I have no complaints.
    – The offense was okay, but failed to finish drives like the Utes of old.  If we…[Read more]
